how crazy would it be to introduce a spellcrit mechanic to the game?

an item or a rune that allows spells to critically strike and deal a certain amount of bonus damage (in the range of 15% to 20%).

i could see this as an inspiration keystone rune added in the future, as inspiration is about cheating or bending game rules.

could be interesting to see champions like Azir pick up item 3086 items. though for this to work there would need to be more sources of critical strike added that arent bound to ad or attack speed.

a reverse essence reaver effect included in the rune, that grants critical strike chance for building cooldown reduction could work.

there could honestly be a number of effects other than bonus damage made that work on spell crits.

But who would use it if there would be no AP crit items introduced? Azir, Teemo? And it would make adc boosted even more

i think it would work if the rune itself granted crit (for example grants crit for building cdr), and they added more crit runes in other places. meddler said a rune that unlocks crit at 10 minutes would be a possibility in the future.

Item has to say ap crit lol or else you get ap champs with both ap + ad crit with just one item. xD

So you want to add RNG burst to burst to create bigger burst?

A mechanic like this would require re-balancing the damage outputs of every AP-based champion in the game, imo.

Look, it sounds cool, but... I really don't want to see this on...:

Or they could just remove crit from the game completely since it's no longer a stat that a player needs to opt into, getting a minimum of 80% from any 1/2 decent build, and make damage consistent and reliable by just putting the damage elsewhere and then nobody would need crit anymore yay no more RNG reliance \o/

There already is a spell crit mechanic.

With the current game, Spell Crit. can only be added as a feature for certain champions and not a stat all have access to. The stat can be easily broken on several champions.

It's been a while since this idea came up but I recall that Riot had basically told players they will never introduce spell crit to LOL.

IMO, mechanics aren't really like aa crit (Anivia E after a slow, Karthus single target damage Q, Cass' E on poisoned targets, etc...)

To me, crits are random chance and extra damage. You cast spells and say 10% of the time they do 200% damage instead of 100% damage.

I think the closest thing we have to spell crit is item 3285. It's not all the time and it's kinda inconsistent on when it happens but it happens, sort of like how AA crits are, except you're told when you're guaranteed a "spell crit" with luden's meter.

Outside of Luden's, I don't think we will ever see enhanced spell damage because it may become broken on certain champs due to their design in combination with the items. I know it feels unfair but introducing spell crit will require a lot of champ reworks to rebalance and I don't think Riot wants to spend that much time redoing champs just to introduce one mechanic when they could spend their time putting out more events, maps, skins, and new champs which won't require as much effort.
