Is it me or is the new Aatrox basically Riven 2.0?

Champion Update: Aatrox, the Darkin Blade

Look, I couldn't be more excited to see what the new Aatrox is like. The teaser yesterday got my mouth drooling and my blood pumping.

With the reveal now, I will say it looks more promising that current Aatrox. But on closer inspection, his kit feels a tad too familiar to Riven's. I know it's only been a few hours but he really does feel more like a new Riven.

Don't believe me? Let's do a quick comparison:

Q:

Similarities - both are a 3-combo ability with a form of knockup at the end of the third.

Differences -

  • Riven: is more of a dash, hits all enemies in front of her and all enemies around her on final, as well as knocking everyone up in proximity of the third hit.

  • New Aatrox: Gradually gets different area sizes on use, is somewhat slower from looks, can knock up each time but situational at edges or in center of third hit (similar to old Q), can't move during it unless you use E (which we'll get to).

W:

Similarities - both forms of some area CC

Differences -

  • Riven - Is instant on cast and stuns all enemies around her.

  • New Aatrox - Is skillshot on first enemy hit, is a slow, has effect similar to Kled Q.

E:

Similarities - Both are short range dashes

Differences -

  • Riven - Gains a shield on use.

  • New Aatrox - Has up to two charges, can be used during Q, can dash through walls, gains AD for a few seconds on use, and has Rhaast passive tied in as a bonus.

Ult:

Similarities - Gain bonus damage on use and is basically a combat steroid

Differences -

  • Riven - Gains more range on AA, Q, W and can have ranged cone Execute once.

  • New Aatrox - Fear minions and gains bonus MS for a short time (which reading it is always active outside of combat), gains his old passive to revive if he were to die and can move during that time.

Idk, maybe I'm being paranoid and/or talking out my ass. This is after all first speculations of his gameplay reveal. But you have to admit that the similarities between these two is there and it's very surprising to me. Make of this what you will, I just needed to share my thoughts on this.

AA Enhancer (Now with more Range, Debuff, % Health) Triple Q (More knockups) Root/Stun (More utility since it pulls them back and longer CC) Dash (Double dash with heal passive) Ult Steroids (Now with CC, MS and a GA)

I see nothing but Riven combined with modern bruiser top lane additions added to her. He basically is what Riven would have been if she had better top lane qualities. Good riddance to my girl who received a skin on her deathbed. Riot is no longer going to divert any attention to her.

the dash seems really out of place on him lol. i get that it helps with his initiation.. being that was his main use beforehand... but... idk it feels like it's just there because they couldn't think of anything else to put on him. they should have just let him move during q and think of something else to put on his e

The "something else" should have been an ability that can buff him and his allies. A big part of his character is he can turn the tide of battle and inspire savage bloodlust in the warriors he chooses to side with, so why not have part of his kit tie into that? Not gonna lie, disappointed Riot didn't implement anything like that.

i was thinking they just move his dmg passive to his e and make it a toggle like it used to be except it works on his qs as well... then revert the passive to the way it was with the ult. tbh i think that would make everyone happy.. including the old aatrox mains who are currently disappointed with the way the rework turned out.

Not that big of a thing but Aatrox Q and knock up you in all three parts. The enemy just needs to be hit by the edge of the sword.

I'd call him more like Riven Beta Version, he seems to have cast times. They just released them in the wrong order.

I think he is very much in the same style as her, Got that fighter feel on him where its all about comboing his abilitys. Gonna have to wait and see how much animation canceling is in his kit. Feels like he has a bit more CC at the cost of mobility, a bit more sustain at the cost of damage.

doubtful he has any animation canceling that would be necessary like riven's. i mean his qs probably do reset his aa, but you'd only want to be within aa range for his final q. like, he might have them, but it's not going to be a necessary part of his kit.

Correction, he's a mix of Riven and Sion. And I do not like it.

Pretty much a Riven who traded in her mobility for an increase in other stats.
