Maybe it was the 19/1/9 Riven on the other team that was the issue, not a weak bot lane?

Wait, that is top lane, and it does not exist.

shhh...you're ruining the "adc is broken" circlejerk, man. they're not supposed to deal tons of damage (even though that's their job). they **definitely ** dont have weaknesses to balance that heavy damage out cough immobility cough squishy. it's not fair they're one-shoting everyone LITERALLY, AS FAST AS AN ASSASSIN MELTS SQUISHY im telling you! oh yeah, even though they lack dashes or cc to catch me off, they can still melt me. it's definitely not because of my bad positioning. oh no! stop ruining the strawman and bandwagon, dude!

People mostly complain about them not dealing sustained damage, as they should, but too much "burst" per second, due to the nature of crit. Some ADC get viable because of their drank-tankiness, some get viable because they aren't immobile (the irony wants it that despite your claim right now the circle-jerk is about Vayne and Trist, who both have annoying mobility [Trist due to W reset]). Those who lack both are indeed victim of the cirlejerk.

Also for lack of dashes and CC. Dashes (or other striking mobility): Caitlyn Corki Ezreal Graves Kalista Kindred Lucian Quinn (kinda) Tristana Vayne Significant CC (quite diverse in being soft, hard or both): Ashe Caitlyn Corki Draven Kalista Jinx Jhin Kindred KogMaw MissFortune Quinn (kinda) Twitch Tristana Teemo Varus Vayne Xayah

Unless I missed someone, the only ADC not listed is Sivir, and even she has MS buff on ult.

I don't like ADC circlejerk either, but you ignore way too many things to be taken seriously, too.

I love when my adc is 5/0 but it doesn't matter because the enemy Zed who is 3/0 with his item 3147 will murder us because my mid laner lost.

Feelsgood- a support main.

True, but most often than not a game is decided by the bot lane, it's just the facts. Adcs hit their power spikes super early with cheap items, so getting them fed early basically seals the game.

Not necesserely, in some scenarios yes but in others, my adc getting fed is just a big bag of gold waiting for the Zed to roam bot lane. Sometimes with the jungler along with him. You would be surprise how many times I just wished my damn mid lane would buy a item 3191 instead of rushing item 3165, even if they are ahead. Once that Zed gets his Duskblade, everything goes wrong.

Also, another thing that you seem to forget is now that Adcs get their power spike, that also means that if YOUR ADC is behind and has a chance to farm for a few minutes, they will get back faster into the game. Obviously it doesn't always happen but I've already seen it happen as a support main.

Seeker's is just a terrible item to begin with. If you get it, you gimp yourself severely in the early game and delays your Morello power spike. And god forbid if you decide to rush a Zhonya's. You're fucked even longer.

ADs get the lovely item item 3155 that negates death from an AP burst. Meanwhile, Seeker's doesn't do jack squat at preventing any AD burst that comes in hot.

There is more counterplay to a fed mage than there is counterplay to a fed marksmen.

All the marksmen have to do is auto you 3-4 times with their 100% chance to hit auto attacks, there is no way anyone can screw up auto attacking.

Mages have to deal with cooldowns, every weakness of skillshots, more expensive items etc.

Lets not forget they also have a role that's dedicated to protecting them making killing that fed adc even harder LUL.

xToxicOsirisx5 votes

If the marksman is in range to auto you, you're not using your range and cc. If you're trying to kill an adc with a support by yourself, you are 2v1ing. Why should you win that. Skillshots almost always have more range than auto attacks. Mage items are more expensive because item by item they are more impactful per item.

1.Her range is no where near to global. 2.With lux you cant easy shove cause you need million ap to kill a back line with 1 E. 3.With all those lulu janna suppports+shields you cant even do half adc hp with your full combo.

I'm triggered. Near global ult, he says : Ziggs Xerath Champs played with globals/high range : Ezreal Jinx Kled Nocturne Pantheon GalioGangplank
Her ult is basically a tower to tower range, which is pretty good. Shoving lane as lux only RECENTLY became practical because of how quickly you hit a high cd for spamming your ULT(specifically your ult) to clear waves. E is a monster on your mana and doesn't kill any minions without 2 full items.

ADCs are melted by a combo if no one else interferes. That's very true.

E clears waves efficiently if used correctly. Two E’s and some auto attacks should fully clear any wave:

E the wave. Pop the marks on the ranged minions with auto attacks to last-hit them. Auto attack the melees until they are all around the same 1/3 to 1/2 HP. Then E the melees and pop the marks for last-hits.

If you don’t pop the passive marks and prep the melees, then you will miss last-hits and need three or four E’s to clear the wave, eating through mana.

MillForMe1 votes

We are not discussing the most efficient wave to clear a wave. Lux, is not a great wave clearer until she reaches a specific point in the game, and even then her ult's spammability is the trait we'd be praising, not necessarily her wave clear ability.

Lux's E requires her to auto every minion either before, or after. Melee's require multiple AA's. Burning 140/160/200/230/260 mana(2 E's) on a single wave is wasteful and any opponent worth their salt is either roaming while you do that, shoving the wave harder so you have to compete with your tower, or diving in after you've dropped that E and need to auto the minions.

In favorable matchups, she's capable of clearing the wave because the other opponent is terrible at it and not a dasher/assassin. But against other ranged poke mages or assassins, lux's wave clear is a weakness that allows her to stay balanced.

If lux were capable of clearing waves easily and safely without the use of her ult and without being ahead of her opponent, she'd be too busted and require a nerf. I say this as someone who has played her since season 3 against bronze, silvers, golds, plats, and diamonds.

I don't believe her wave clear is strong enough to use it in an argument about how powerful she is. Her wave clear leaves a lot of room for counter play for champs that want to engage, and is weak enough that other wave clear mages can either race her and win, continue doing it for a longer duration of time when they are effective at it.

I was replying to a poster who said something to the effect that Lux has bad waveclear because she can’t clear casters with her E alone. With the tacit assumption that she were alone in lane, I showed that she could.

You played Lux in Diamond, so I am prepared for you to prove me wrong about the above and, also, the following.

I thought about clearing the wave with E and her passive. On the first wave, the safest way seems to be to cast E on the whole wave and pop the marks on the melee minions. Once her E cooldown ends, the melees should be low enough for Lux to cast E on the wave again and pop the marks on the melees to last-hit them. Then, Lux can last-hit the caster minions.

To your point, her opponent can try to zone Lux away from marked minions, but he would need to use an ability with very long range to reach her without warning her by walking up. Regardless, that ability would cost about as much mana, might miss her, and would not necessarily push the wave, either. In sum, Lux is a safer, more-efficient laner than you think.

The only counter to this tactic would be to pick a champion who could trade while she were using her telegraphed passive. Say, Vel’Koz. Am I missing something here?

LightIsMyPath1 votes

No, if you proc illumination on the melees they will just shove you in making you loose the entire wave or straight up zone you out while your main trading tool is down. The best way to clear a (pushed for you) wave is to leave E on the ground unexploded and when it actually explodes you'll throw another one shortly, securing the casters with it and then autoing the melees. Then the meelees will probably still be alive so you Q 2 of them and only one is left that needs to be dealt with autoattacking. Waiting confirmation from the fellow Lux player in diamond of course since I 'm shit but this seems the best way to avoid complete zoning (even if you go back E will slow the wave making it push slower in case they push you in and since they just used their cooldowns to push you can tank a few hits while your next wave approaches to momentarily freeze it near your turret but not under and finish it as soon as E is back up, or keep the Cs there and last hit with autos and save E to still be able to trade ). The worst scenario is when you arrive and your wave is already under turret: That's an E-R or it goes entirely lost.. The thing that makes roaming so dangerous on Lux as if you invest your R on the roam it's almost a guaranteed lost wave even if you don't need to recall (excluded her immobile and squishy ass of course), if you want to counter roam you either push quickly without bothering last hitting, arrive late as you need several autos to push and last hit or E-R the wave and arrive ultless in the fight

MillForMe1 votes

I don't like using 2 E's on a single wave. If I have to because of pressure, sure. But I'd really like to avoid it. Since E eventually gives you the ability to clear casters with 1 auto, I like to wait for most minions to take damage before detonating or even throwing E. Being pushed in so I have to clear all the minions is also a drag. If able, I'll take damage and freeze the lane closer to me. Worst case scenarios and best case scenarios are too varied, so it's not that you're wrong at all. Lux has a pretty weak auto, so if you manage your skills well, you can just let the tower take care of melees for you by auto'ing in between them. It just gets sloppy if your opponent didn't quickly clear your own minions and your farm took some random amount of damage.

You are definitely right about roaming. Clearing one wave immediately doesn't mean you won't lose the next wave if your opponent stays. And if you're clearing without R, it's not fast enough at all. Clearing with R leaves you without your damage.

LightIsMyPath1 votes

Yeah of course I should have specified I meant that as a counter-push/zoning strategy to try not loosing cs. For the auto part on melees under turret... I used to run 3 attack speed marks and managed it. Now I just taste the salt of my tears realizing I'm too slow at connecting which cs is going to be shot when and I loose them item 3070 . In the second case (opponent pushing but random way).. I just straight up loose them all q_q

Lux is safe in teamfights. And she is capable of throwing her skills from a safe range. This does not mean her ability to clear a wave is also safe when she is required to AA the minions at a distance less than her abilities.

Champion.gg gives us 45 champs mid. Of these champs, 17 have blinks, not including vlad. 11 have to be in melee range to auto minions. 2 of those champs are in not actual counters to lux, Galio and Gragas. That's 34 champs that can farm from range with autos, but some of the melee champs have ranged abilities, such as ekko and zed. Then there's kat, kass, fizz, yasuo, lb, akali, and talon, who have always loved going against lux, despite her safe range.

When compared to the rest of the champs, the bulk of them are able to farm safely against her, while possibly being able to also throw their own poke in her direction as well. Some of these champs, such as vel, syndra, anivia, annie, heim, malz, and taliyah are capable of throwing cc at lux without needing to avoid minions, unlike lux's Q. Only 5 or 6 champs actually have to avoid minions for their cc to work in mid, lux being one of them.

Taking the damage of a lux E in order proc your full combo is a good trade for champs against lux. Walking up to your casters while lux needs to clear them is a zoning technique for champs that are able to apply combos from such a position.

Lux zones with her active E, and her potential Q. She does not zone in lane with her E not on the map. Throwing E has a small cast time, and the travel time gives dashers a chance to react and attempt their own combo. The lack of E lessens her trade for a few seconds, which is enough time for mages to try their own combos while hitting minions.

Killing minions with E alone means no autos. Ori, Morg, Xerath, Aniv, Galio, and others are capable of using non-ult skills to kill off minions. Ori Morg, and Syndra are able to clear casters at a lesser overall cost than lux (Q>E(This may be W, not sure which is shield), E, Q,Q).

I suppose my main point is that, Safe range in teamfights does not translate to safe range in farming. Lux can effectively clear a wave now with her E and R because her R comes up so quickly now, lessening the amount of times she needs to auto in lane and lessening the overall mana she spends, but it takes away your combo if you choose to roam and by the time it's a spammable combo, your opponent if not destroyed, is just as capable of clearing and roaming, or was capable earlier. But E alone opens up too much counter play to call it good wave clear.

It's why Lux is not a counter to annie, but a skill matchup. It's why vel has a higher winrate, same as xerath and malz, veig(on one), and anivia. Lane phase is not safe and fast. It's safe and slow, or risky and moderate, until R is spammable.

A little digression to both of you first. When I was writing my response, I was trying to decide on a tone between arrogantly certain to grovellingly ignorant. I chose a middle-ground: acknowledge that a high-elo player has shown they know a lot about the game and have the mechanics to back it up. I knew I could be wrong and so hoped you would reply in all this convincing detail. Thanks! More than just about Lux, it showed me just how deep and complex League becomes as you climb the ladder. It was amazing to peer inside your heads.

———

With that said, back to Lux. Lemme wrap my poor little Silver head around this one. Are you saying that tanking Lux’s E is the setup to a combo, and that a champ like Taliyah should trade through it? Wow. I never thought about it that way. I’ve always tried to keep my teenage stoneweaver outside Lux’s range and dodge the circle of ouch, which is no mean feat since I haven’t been keeping good track of its cooldown, or range, or speed... >_>

So, yeah, just imagine what would happen if she tried to use E for waveclear against a competent opponent. He would just run at her, and unless he stepped out from behind two minions, she would be helpless. No wonder I saw Bjergsen’s Lux only last-hit with autos in this one really old video of him against Zed. E was the one thing keeping her safe from that shuriken-chucking maniac.

So I see your point. Lux can waveclear efficiently only in a lane that is empty or almost empty already, by which point mana-efficient clear isn’t the name of the game. I feel bad for her. She was one of my favorite first champs, along with Ezreal, for her spells and long-range ultimate. Surprising people with that was one of my favorite things. <3

MillForMe1 votes

You don't have to trade through it, but lux is a poke champ with a combo based off Q. Other champs have combos that are more freely available, meaning reading her poke is a valuable skill for them and sometimes being hit by E is a small cost for being able to set up a high damage combo.

So yes, you've basically got it now.

Playing against Taliyah is all about positioning. If you stand in the right places, then she simply cannot reach you. Stand in the wrong places, and she can do it without any trouble.

  1. Always have minions between her and you. Her Threaded Volley has 1,000 range, cannot be dodged if used correctly, and grants her a 10% movement speed buff on the Worked Ground it creates.

  2. Never be closer than 700 units to Taliyah. She will hit you with the edge of Unraveled Earth to slow you and then Seismic Shove you through it. Come closer only when either one is down, but be warned that she may use her Unraveled Earth anyway if she has it.

  3. Once Taliyah has bought Rylai’s Crystal Scepter, her play-style changes. The Rylai’s slow from just one Q shard is enough for her to walk up and land her combo on any immobile champion. You must go where she cannot reach you.

Also, here are some macro tips.

  1. She snowballs. Her base damage numbers are huge, and she can rush magic penetration from Sorcerer’s Shoes and Haunting Guise to use them if she gets ahead in levels.

  2. Her build is not entirely offensive, making a fed Taliyah also a very tough Taliyah. She’ll get 300 HP apiece from Rylai’s and Liandry’s, and since her AP scalings are low, she can often afford to buy a defensive item instead of a Rabadon’s or defensive boots instead of Sorcerer’s shoes.

  3. Watch your minimap and ward the river. If she disappears and is not below 1/3 HP, then she may be roaming. If your sidelaners are pushed under either their or the enemy turret, then she can walk into the jungle beside the turret and either wall them off theirs or wall them into hers.

  4. Beware the Level 2 cheese roam. Her Unraveled Earth and Threaded Volley are enough to force summoner spells during the early game.

  5. Note her mana costs. Her combo uses almost half her mana until she buys The Lost Chapter. If you can keep pushing the wave enough to make her use it, then she will either exhaust her mana or miss last-hits.

  6. Do not let her push you in early. She may back and buy herself a second Doran’s ring to force you to base and then start roaming. +100% Base Mana Regeneration on a waveclear champ is very strong.

  7. She may be immobile, but she is still a huge pain to gank. Her CC is essentially undodgable by junglers who have to close the gap do their job, and her Q speedboost lets her create distance. Bait her combo first.

I'm pretty sure if Lux could kill the back line with 1 E, she wouldn't be busted. The thing costs 130 mana and Lux is going to walk into the river to...what? Die to the enemy jungle? She has no escape tools barring the shield and if you miss your Q, it's pretty much over.

She doesn't build HP at all and has no quick way to move around the map. Letting E one shot the back line isn't going to end the world.

It's more because she just scales horribly into the late game due to her long cooldowns and mediocre ap scalings, especially against tanks and teamcomps that will try to all-in you. Once people build MR / get spell shields from things like banshee / night's edge her CDs are just too long for her to function properly. I don't think they're weak but they're not as strong as people say they are. I'm more afraid of Alistar or Leona in lane than I am the other adc, they do practically nothing. I've had an enemy Alistar take me to a little below half health with that electrocute rune and no damage built, and then all MF had to do was stand there and auto twice.

Bruisers and tanks are pretty strong right now with the right runes too. I was afraid of Darius before but jesus he's even more terrifying now. I've seen him tear through entire teams like it's nothing.

Yeah, your bot lane lost the game for you solely despite the fact that your shen and kayn both have 9 deaths. Hell Riven had three kills before your bot lane died twice. She then killed your top lane a few more times, and went bot lane to pick up a few kills, get a tower, secure a dragon, and get her team a few more kills. But it's all your botlane's fault, isn't it?

Seriously I've played a game of top, mid, and jungle so far in my placements, and each time I felt like I was making a big contribution to our team's victory. As opposed to ADC, where I felt as if I could do my job if I had a solid team, but couldn't if i didn't.

In my mid game, I went Ekko, won lane solidly against a lux, got fed. Then nearly 40 minutes into the game, killed a full build Draven with a single rotation of abilities and a passive proc, after one shotting the enemy lux with E from 50% health, to win the game. That alone felt more satisfying than any of my ADC games. If I had a greater champion pool and understanding of mid matchups, you bet I'd be playing mid lane.

I love going 26/4 as an ADC and losing because my top lane Yasuo went 3/12.

I half health the enemy ADC's life with a Sighstone as the Lux supp. I roam and tilt the enemy midlaner of the surface of this earth.

Your point is invalid.

Hmm. It's almost as if two people are botlane, instead of just one person! And one (or even both) is your hardest-scaling champion!

What a fascinating discovery!

Literally this every time people cry, "my assassin/burst mage can't kill the ADC with his support defending them".

This has always been the case. Lux is a champ that cannot hard-carry or hard-throw a game. She is just a safe wave clearing/medium damage/back line support champ that supplements the rest of your team. By playing Lux you largely puts the game into the hands of your teammates/enemies.

If you were 5-0 on Zed or Azir, your ability to carry would've been much higher. But the cost of playing those is that you could also be way more useless than Lux if you fall behind.

I know that feel, I've mained Lux for some time.

But if Lux is 5/0 and enemy bot is 5/0, you can still 100-0 their adc and supp if they get caught in your snare.

I think Lux has a big impact on the mid game because of her long range safe burst. Lux also has the potential to use her skills onto the enemy backline and snipe squishies without getting out of position, although that's really hard to do and I struggle with it greatly, but you can't expect to win the game 5/0 early game and use all your skills on the enenmy Maokai with full MR.
