I didn't ward that much, but I still placed the most wards in the game. It was only a 20-minute game

There's your problem. It doesn't compare your wards to the others in game, it compares it to everyone who plays soraka support. If you want to S farm, every time you back spam your sightstone in the fountain. Also cover a lane a bit and get at least 3 cs/min by the end of the game.

The thing is, I don't want to ward just for the sake of warding. I placed a ward when it had a purpose, but since the game was mostly "go forward, kill enemies, go further", there was no point at warding most of the time.

That's great dude, but the game just doesn't care about that when deciding grades.

Don't get me wrong, 64% kill participation is good but it does take in account wards placed, destroyed, and cs also.
