Taking the RNG out of Tryndamere

So I was thinking about how Tryndamere is basically the poster guy for RNG due to his early game cheese. Well, him and possibly Gangplank depending on runes, but moreso Trynd.

I thought, instead of randomly dealing a ton of damage because he got a crit, why not give him 'consistent crits' like Ashe? This would scale off of how much Fury he currently has.

Here's a formula I (tried to) write for this. It probably needs adjusting, but I just wanted to get the idea out there.

Tryndamere's basic attacks will critically strike as long as he has Fury generated, dealing modified Critical Strike Damage based on his current Fury, but he cannot otherwise critically strike.

Modified Critical: 100 + {[0.2 + (% Crit Chance x 0.005) x Fury] x (1 + Bonus Crit Damage)} %AD

  • Damages at Max Fury w/ No Crit Items: 120% AD w/ Statikk Shiv: 130% AD w/ Infinity Edge: 145% AD w/ SS and IE: 160% AD

Note: "Bonus Crit Damage" is the modifier added to critical strikes by sources such as Infinity Edge. In IE's case, it adds 50%, or 0.5 .

Ideally, his passive would lose the free crit chance based on Fury if something like this were to be implemented. He'd probably need a bit of tweaking besides that to accommodate for this, but I'll let more savvy people mull that over.

In short, the idea is for the angry barbarian to always hit rather hard when he's angry, rather than sometimes hitting REALLY hard.

Edit: Just as a comparison, Fiora has 60 base AD at level 1, and the first point in Riposte gives her 15 bonus AD. So, that one point increases her AD by roughly 20 to 25%.

In hindsight, Ashe only 'crits' if she continually hits the same target, which isn't the case here. I'm not really sure how to work around that in this case, though, since Ashe IDs targets with her unique Frost slow, whereas Trynd doesn't really do anything distinct.

Then again, he's a melee champion, whereas Ashe attacks from a minimum of 600 range.

If you wanted, you could possibly make the formula scale up at certain levels, letting his crits scale harder into the late-game without making a mess out of his early-game. I mean, right now, Trynd has up to a 35% chance to hit you for 200% AD at level 1. (And mind you, Tryndamere has the 12th highest base AD at level 1, and he gets more AD from Q if he took that first.) And you don't even know if that's going to happen. He can stomp his opponent solely by chance, or otherwise just be a fairly bog-standard melee fighter.

A way for the enemy to play around his Fury would probably be good to go along with this, though. Like having him lose a percentage of his Fury if an enemy champion CCs him with an active ability. Again, purely speculative. Not sure if that would be at all necessary, but trying to keep checks and balances in mind doesn't hurt.

I'm still mulling over if the base value per Fury is too high or not. At max Fury with no crit items, it's 120% AD. But as a point of comparison, Fiora's W at rank 1 is 15 AD., which is approx. 20 to 25% extra AD if taken early.

The base amount of damage gained per Fury could always be tweaked to like 0.15 or something, which would give 115% AD hits at max fury with no other modifiers. I dunno, math is still hard.

Tryndamere needs a total rework. He's overpowered and you can't change that, he has a level 1 Infinity Edge and no matter what he builds he still will be ridiculous and unfair. I've seen AD Tryndamere, Crit Tryndamere, On-Hit Tryndamere, Attack Speed Tryndamere (which was probably the scariest), AP Tryndamere, Tank Tryndamere, all of these work on him regardless of his scaling or anything due to the fact he will either get ahead in lane which is fairly easy for him to do and start one-shotting people, or he will split push like crazy since he takes turrets down really fast and if anyone stops him he can escape extremely easily, or just outduel you since he outduels most champions with a few items anyways regardless of the point of the game.

There's no way you can nerf Tryndamere to make him balanced, he will simply become underpowered or still overpowered. Even if he's not overpowered and I'm just imagining he isn't and isn't the lowest skill based champion in the game as well, then he's still an extremely toxic and unfair champion to fight and I think that's almost inarguable.

The thing is about trynd, they can't change anything about him due to his ult and how overpowered it is. If they change it he looses his identity, besides trynda is a solo queue star...Just learn to counter him it's not hard..
