Except if you look at his statistics, he deals more damage than the average midlaner, he wins more than the average midlaner, kills/assists more than the avg midlaner, earns more gold than the average midlaner. The only thing he doesn't do better than the average mid laner is die less. That sounds like a good performer when you do almost every metric better than other people in your lane.
he's one of the few mid laners right now who can start at wraith camp and then run into lane getting level 2 pushing the lane and then take the enemy chickens as well, to get about halfway to 3 before the enemy laner even hits level 2 and if your a ghost exhaust karthus then you may be able to just all in level 2 xd
