Karthus would've been a better fit for the "Dark Star" theme than Thresh

Karthus Has not had a skin for 2 years, with his latest being Fnatic Karthus.

Don't get me wrong, I think Thresh is a good fit too but he already has a lineup of great skins that at least change his particles.

Karthus could've had

  • His Q be a nebula of stars or mini black holes
  • His W be a huge nebula or black hole or wormhole kind of thing
  • His E be a literal spinning galaxy or a black hole sucking things in
  • His R be a huge supernova explode on top of enemies or just dark matter explode

Like I said, the design team did a beautiful job with the skin but I personally think Karthus could've at least gotten some love and new particles.

Hiya!

Wanted to drop by and give a bit of context into the discussions that we had when crafting the Dark Star thematic and why we selected Thresh and Varus.

We wanted to create a legendary skin for Thresh, but wanted to create a fantasy that was a bit more dark and mature than what already existed. Thresh, of course, was a perfect fit for something more sinister; his base lore was already very dark and twisted. Dark Star amps up that evil by presenting a Thresh that has moved past devouring souls, this monster wants to devour your galaxy and reality itself.

We wanted to expand on the thematic, thus creating another champion for Thresh to share it with. Varus fits well within the Dark Star alt-fantasy because it highlights his descent into darkness, but takes it that extra notch further. He’s not only corrupted, he’s completely consumed by the Dark Star’s twisted power.

That said, we aren't opposed to expanding this, or any other line that we've created before! I think Karthus would be a wonderful candidate for this particular thematic - he would fit in well with a darker theme, and as you've pointed out, the particles do have a lot of potential!
