can we do something about azir

please tell me what weaknesses does a competent azir has outside of the obvious hard cc the squishy (assuming we can actually get close enough without losing half our hp). when occasionally looking through moba guides when i'm new to a champion, he is always listed as 10, i even google azir counter, and all i got was snowball before early game is over or pick a poke mage.

whenever I see a azir i play something like leblanc if i want to kill him. Vel'koz has the range and burst to deal with him also.

I play Sona mid often and haven't had too many problems with him. As long as you sidestep his Q, there's almost always an opening for you to abuse in his gameplay where you either force him to get another soldier out or you can poke him. You have to counter champions like Azir by being as insanely straightforward as you can; bait the Q, go in and get out fast. This means that high-reliability poke mages tend to perform well against Azir, including LB, Vel'koz, Ahri and Sona. Annie might work but she'd have to go a bit too far in most if the time, i also think Nidalee could work, but getting into melee range of an Azir is obviously quite dangerous.

my problem isn't so much as his early game then his late game where he is potentially the highest damage dealer and has the highest amounts of self peel

going after him means that you have to dive the back lines where 3-4 other champions are pretty much in your way, assuming you can get close enough without dying, he can push you back with his ult and continue to chip ur hp away and if you attempt to walk around the wall (assuming your not dead already) he can put enough distance between himself for another rotation, or just dash away, its so ludicrous.

Have your heavy-engage tank or assassin lock him down for you, that's what they do. Leona or Malphite ult for instance may give you the opening you need to nuke his face. If they can't, wait for an opportunity where he's focusing someone else. You can't calculate this kind of thing with 'what can i do' because that means you innately think it's a 1v5, you have to think 'what can WE do' instead.

The only champion that Azir has a positive win rate against is Kassadin. STATISTICALLY every other mid laner does better than Azir and wins the match up against Azir more often than not. It's just learning how to play against him.

Azir has very low kill pressure in lane on his own, and is at the point of not being able to do much if anything until late game. It's a miracle he's still safeish in the early game.

But that being said, he's very easily counterable. He's extremely squishy, with long cooldowns and high mana costs in the early game. Anyone with a gapcloser will ruin his day.

That being said, you can't just faceroll Azir, which isn't a bad thing.

Well, many champs with an instant blink gap closer will shut him down pretty hard. Talon is my WORST nightmare because you can't dash out of there either. (you'll run into him ;-;) I find Leblanc and Zed pretty tough to lane against but I've heard that Zed isn't too difficult. Xeraths and Fizzes don't seem too difficult to me (maybe because bronze-silver can't hit anything :/) but I've been informed that they're pretty difficult match ups. Diana and Ahri are skill matchups but I'm bad at playing against Diana post-6. There's also Malzahar, but a good combo from him can 100-0 most people. So I guess overall, Talon is not someone you'd want to play against as Azir. Fizz, Leblanc and Xerath (maybe Zed) are people that can do quite a bit against him and Diana and Ahri are skill matchups. People who have good mobility or blinks that can jump on Azir's face will hit him pretty hard and will be able to get out of his soldiers more easily.
