What is with hybrid offense/defense items?

Just going to start by saying this isn't a QQ thread. I'm just curious if there is a legitimate reason as to why this is or if its just because 'thats the way it is'. Only going to be covering complete items as well.

AP/MR: item 3001 item 3174 (Athenes now niche at best)

AP/Armor: item 3157 item 3050 (Zekes extremely niche)

AP/Health: item 3027 item 3030 item 3152 item 3116 item 3151 item 2301 (Obviously support only)

AD/MR: item 3156 item 3139 item 3814

AD/Armor: None

AD/Health: item 3071 item 3748 item 3078 item 3053 item 3022 (all but BC kinda niche in their own ways)

Is there a reason why an AD/Armor item doesnt exist? Or why is there only one viable AP/Armor item?

The only reason I can think of for the latter is that mages have more viable choices when it comes to AP/Health items as opposed to AD/Health in a traditional ADC build. Of course Cleaver and Tri work on specific ADCs, but ADCs for sure have access to more variety of good AD/MR items.

Could go into interactions with bruisers with these items, but I think we kinda get the jyst of whats good on which AD bruisers.

Anyone want to chime in their 2 cents? Trying to rationalize this here.

i think the problem is that AD-armor items would make ADCs tankier against each other and against assassins (who would also be tankier vs each other).

If it was low AD so there was a very large tradeoff it wouldn't be that bad?

But is that saying AD assassins are fine, but AP assassins aren't?

most AP assassins really like zhonya tho

But AD also get item 3140 item 3814 as well

AD armor items are basically lifesteal+pen.

AD + Armor used to exist. Madred's Bloodrazor had Armor, AD, and AS, plus had a better version of item 1419's passive. It was awesome, but even the most die hard of players knew it was stupid broken.

Trinity Force is a niche item now. Okay then.

It is lol. It more of a "does my champion use this item or not" type of thing

The item gives AD, Health, Attack Speed, CDR, Mana, Move Speed, damage and more move speed. Literally every champion in the game uses at least four of those stats. The item is the most generalist item in the entire game, the complete opposite of niche.

Its really not though. The raw stats are only 93% gold efficient. The price tag of 3733 gold makes it the most expensive item in the game. The rest of the efficiency of course falls into the spellblade. How efficiently you can proc the spellblade is what makes it efficient.

Thats why Tri is built on champs that can spam spells like KogMaw Ezreal Corki and not built on ADCs like Caitlyn Jinx Tristana. There is no reason to buy literally the most expensive item in the game if you can't make the most of it. Hence why its pretty split between champs that do use it and those who don't
