Riot's new client - incompetence on a massive scale

Lemme start of by saying that I don't know jack about software development (other than spamming if-sentences in actionscript), and quite frankly don't give two craps. WHAT I DO KNOW is that other companies are able to put out stable clients for their games, yet Riot seems incapable of doing the same thing. Blizzard's client doesn't halt and start lagging when I click PLAY - IT LETS ME PLAY. I've lost count of the many times the thing just crashes or disconnects for no apparent reason. What kind of low-tier shitty devs are working on this shit?

How is it possible for a billion dollar company to have a client in trial mode for literally a year and it's still full of bugs of all sorts? Look guys, I know this is an extremely negative post, but it pisses me off when companies treat their customers like garbage by giving us such a freaking crappy client and not giving two shits about fixing it.

They're not taking it seriously that people are losing their promos and losing LP for no freaking good reason other than incompetence on Riot's part.

The client works fine for me, except maybe one rare bug and a bit of lag.

Read the comments. The new client is a piece of garbage. The new client ONLY runs well on my i7 rig. I have a respectable 2nd rig that it runs like complete dog on, the same with my laptop. It's filled with bugs as well. If you haven't experienced any issues then you're lucky.

no it doesnt, a lot of people have been reporting the client dodging them when its not their turn to do anything, and not even being able to pick a champion.

the client is rushed and is lacking a ton of features from legacy client, while it looks better the functionality isnt there.

I havent had any problems with the client and ive been using it since alpha. THe only issue i ever had was one night I had an issue with the Role selection and After I completed a game Id have to restart the client.

Then that is all fine and dandy for you. You are one person. And just because it runs smoothely and glitch free for you does not mean everyone else shares your experience.

For me it also runs smoothely. But I have an absolute monster of a gaming rig to use. Other people are not so fortunate and my 4 mates game on school netbooks that re 4 years old (how they lasted that long without being smashed in frustration idk) that can barely run the new client because there's so much crap going on, leading me to believe it's been poorly optimised. Sorry, that last part is now a fact confirmed by a riot post (check red tracker). Apparently every time you switch to a different page in the client, it dedicates memory to opening and maintaining it, and then it stays dedicated until you close the client regardless of whether you are using it or not. And it STACKS! Basically if I switch between runes and masteries over and over again. I will eventually dedicate all 64 gigs of ram to the fken league client. Not a problem for me because that would take hours of doing that. But for people with only 2 or 4 gigs or ram, they suffer greatly as some of that is already sucked up by coms programs and windows.

And they don't get a choice to switch back to the client they can run. We're oce, riot's guinea pigs server.

it was the opposite for me, legacy client was crashing a lot, I upgraded to new client for replays and training tool, haven't had an issue yet. It crashed maybe once or twice in 1 month but it automatically restarted and remembered where it was.

The whole reason they're working on a new client is to have a "stable one..." They tracked the dcs and the rates were comparable to the old one so they decided to axe it so they could improve the new one faster.

A year since the original Alpha test on the Pbe isn't that bad tbh. The version on Pbe right now coming live soon seems faster too.

not giving two shits about fixing it.

Blatantly untrue. They've fixed a lot every patch since then.

I'll just lay out the facts as I see them.

We're in the middle of a ranked season (middle after 2 months when November's the official end, that's new math for you) but at any rate, here's what Riot is doing within the span of two weeks:

  • Adding a COMPLETELY new client that they have admitted is not 100% ready and not 100% tested, which will likely mean issue after issue demotions, penalties, etc in ranked and normal games for a lengthy period of time.

  • Changing up items and the tank class as well as an epic monster (Rift Herald) while also releasing two brand new champions at the same time in one single patch.

  • Not bothering to listen to feedback or address underlying issues other than general text here and there that could be a reply to almost anything, basically insisting if you have problems with the client its your computer just like if the server lags its somehow your fault, for all the millions who complained about it for 2-3 years.

There's only one solution that will stop the giant migration and that's NOT TO PLAY LEAGUE FROM APRIL 24-MAY 1ST. Use twitter, facebook, you name it - #BOYCOTTLOLCLIENT or something of the like. FORCE Riot to listen because if a whole bunch of users stop playing for a week they get hit the only area they care about: The wallet.

And if you want to edit and delete my posts that's just fine, because in the event I'm unable to play the new client until my new comp is in next month I will simply move to Overwatch. Don't bite the hand that's fed you a VERY substantial amount of money, or it goes to Blizzard. Bottom line, sick of defending the incompetence of this company. Don't make a stupid mistake! I know a lot of people who are concerned about this and if you throw us under the bus one more time that's going to be the breaking point.
