Public Service Announcement: Don't Take a Sion's Farm

Ironclad Dragon··95 votes·5,589 views

https://i.ytimg.com/vi/j1hShXGr5AI/maxresdefault.jpg Sion's stacking is the inverse of Nasus's. He gets health, Nasus gets damage for his Q. You don't take a Nasus' farm without good reason, right? It helps him, so it helps your team. It's the same deal with Sion. Sure, more health may not be as apparent as more damage, but it keeps a tank alive once everything hits the fan. Unless, of course, he buys a Titanic Hydra, which means he deals more damage in proportion to his health. All the more reason not to take the Undead Juggernaut's farm.

I always find it an odd day when I have a Nasus, Veigar and a Sion on the same team in ARAM or some such. There's this unseen battle for CS.

Spizzle900015 votes

Then there's Thresh who just kinda doesn't care who gets the CS as long as he gets souls. xD

Thats no true actually, it stacks infinitely

kasfas7 votes

See the quotes? I know there's no cap, but they become useless after acquiring all 3 ult upgrades, so you don't need to farm for them anymore.

Kasfas was talking about Gangplank's Silver Serpents, not Sion's health.

Oh, just so!

I can not tell you how many times I've had people take my farm while playing Gangplank, way more often than I'd like. One day I would like to get every Ult upgrade in one match :(

3TWarrior1 votes

1500/8 = 188 minions last hit with a Q effect

the average game gives 200 minions to last hit not involving Q

given that matches are shoter now, that goes to 160 ^^; so, it's unlikely

A handy trick I've found as Gangplank is that, once you have one or two items completed, you can just drop a barrel+Q in the raptor nest over the wall to kill all 3 little ones, get 3 kills worth of silver serpents, and not take anything of value from your jungler. It's a good way to bump up your serpent stacks when teamfights and grouping starts and it's harder to clear whole waves of minions.

Except Raptors is the most valuable camp that a jungler has outside of Red and Blue, because smiting it grants the jungler the ability to spot wards.

FrickendaChicken2 votes

It takes the little ones, the big one is what you get the buff from, so the little guys are literal fodder for the jungler, and the 30 gold lost they can just get from any other camp or, hey! Ganking with that new raptor passive!

GhostOfShrimpmas1 votes

Unless you're at some sort of super glass cannon full build, you're not one-shotting the big raptor, and you just leave it to reset after killing the little ones.

that's some good bg music.

I'm fairly certain this is why he's a Top Laner (or Jg, I haven't tried that with him yet). It's also why I've been told that item 3074Ravenous Hydra and item 3071The Black Cleaver are so good for him.

kasfas2 votes

Bc is pretty good, but hydra isn't great, actually pretty bad. Titanic is alright, but only if your autoing a lot, which if your playing sion, means you aren't charging q and have no cdr which is bad.

Items that help him with a few autos in between spells are real good though, fm bc etc.

Ironclad Dragon3 votes

Sion is ability-reliant, that cannot be refuted, but he cannot use his abilities all the time. The Hydras help clear built-up waves without using mana that you might need later, and I've found that even on Sion, the basic attack boost is a great supplement to his damage. It gives you some damage where otherwise you'd be waiting on your cooldowns. Helps even more when you're using your passive.

kasfas1 votes

With the the passive true, but ideally you don't want to be using that. In between spell rotations, sion should auto a bit, but generally picking sion isn't for the damage, it's for the zone control and cc. A FM is a very good pickup for both stages of sion, but I generally rush FH, so I don't need to conserve mana as much for csing and wave pushing.

Getting bonus auto damage with a circle is always nice, but isn't as effective on sion as it is on other champions. For me, offensive items are steraks, FH, and occasionally if I'm feeling ballsy, BC and titanic. hydra(ravenous) just isn't as good on sion as a lot of other items are.

On an unrelated note, if you want to play fighter-sion, get bc fm titanic and furor boots. Reck face.

Ralanr1 votes

Frozen mallet is the best if you want to capitalize on his passive.

FrickendaChicken1 votes

I like to ult in, and if I hit the carry with it, you have enough time to auto, auto reset with titanic, and Q/W which means they are probably dead.

Ironclad Dragon3 votes

I recommend Titanic Hydra over Ravenous. Ravenous suits assassins just fine, but a tank can't properly utilize all the stats it provides. Tanks are typically ability-reliant and don't deal that much damage with basic attacks anyway, so the life steal and cleave aren't as efficient. Titanic, on the other hand, provides health, welcome on any tank, and scales the damage off your maximum health.

Guyy Fieri2 votes

As long as I'm not too far behind. I rush Black Cleaver. If I get a hydra, I get titanic, better on him since he's not really focused on life steal. Sion jungle is fun but like Nasus jungle, you just wanna farm which doesn't really help. Everyone underestimates the power of a level 6 Sion gank tbh tho.

actually, he gets more hp per cs in the jungle, as large monsters give 5 times the hp of regular minions (depending on how well he farms in top/jungle he can get more hp in either, but if he ganks succesfully/takes crabs that's 10hp per assist/crab as well)

Ralanr2 votes

I always hate it when my team just takes my farm when trying to clear waves. I'm stuck in the 2 thousands in hp until I can buy a second health item.

Well, technically, if you build a titanic hydra on Sion, you inversely gain damage for the amount of health you have... just more reason not to take the farm xD

I don't believe that's what you're intending to mean. But glad you agree.

kasfas2 votes

I will state I have gotten cinderhulk and titanic on sion in a custom, then built full damage after about 35 minutes of power farming and was able to solo baron and make it out with 1/3 hp, which was about 5k at that point.

Blade of Justic1 votes

This isn't anything new. I'd say that it was even more important to let him farm when he didn't actually build health.
