@Riot, I demand an explanation for Karthus

Ironclad Dragon··245 votes·9,361 views

Riot, listen. I know you read these forums; I know you care for the tiny details. Recently, there was an outcry for renaming Darius' bloodrage since it went against his character, when really wouldn't have mattered to his gameplay, and you actually listened. I implore you, listen to us again. This isn't a suggestion for a number tweak or a petition to completely remove an infuriating champion from the game. This thread is about one of those minor details, the "trivialities" that are really the icing on the cake that makes your game great.

The good folks at Riot think Karthus' ultimate quotes shouldn't be heard globally. I believe they said they didn't want to crowd the "airspace" of the match; an understandable explanation. Yet then Kalista came out. In case you don't know, her ultimate quotes are **global **for some confounding reason. Why in the name of Baron Nashor, should I hear Kalista's ultimate quotes when I'm at top lane? Her ultimate isn't nearly as dramatic as other champions' ults! Sion war horn? Makes sense. Ults that generally get people from one place to another have a global sound. But something that's incredibly localized like Kalista's ult? Why? Seems to me that's crowding the airspace! But I digress. Seeing this, Karthus players asked again to make Karthus' ultimate quotes global. And apparently, they were turned down again. I personally didn't participate in that request, but I wish that I did.

This upcoming change on the PBE is atrocious. It's not the change itself that bothers me, it's that Riot's being hypocritical and playing (un)favorites. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--uEouwShpUs/VdaCrcrmMHI/AAAAAAAAwNI/g0oa9pmsV08/s1600/1241241241.jpg

NOTE: Starting with 200 stacks, there is now a chat callout every time you gain 100 stacks + an announcement when you cash in stacks with a kill.

You're giving Draven a global sound. Listen, I like Draven and enjoy the whole "League of Draven" shtick, but this strikes me as unjust. Give us one good reason why Karthus is forbidden from having a global quote, when Kalista (who has an extremely localized ult) and soon Draven will have global sounds.

We need Karthus Global laugh when you kill someone with requiem.

Ironclad Dragon46 votes

Eh, let's not push it too far. I'd be satisfied with just a quote.

iamthegoatofwar57 votes

why not a quote when he kills someone with it as well then?

start of cast "SING AND REJOYCE!"

enemy died due to the spell "Another voice for the choir..."

Oh man, imagine hearing Karthus: "Cease to be!!!" followed with a timely PENTAKILL!

Would be interesting to see a special quote between Soraka and Karthus when they both ult within like 6 seconds.

Soraka Stars Hear Me! Karthus Listen and Rejoice in DEATH!

Karthus SURRENDER! Soraka Have Hope!

Why don't these two have in-game interactions?

if Sion, Kalista, Rek'Sai, and Draven can all have global sounds (ults and a passive) then Karthus definitely deserves to have his ult quotes heard globally. Why this isn't a thing yet is beyond me. They said hearing him every couple of minutes could get annoying but I'd argue that hearing Rek'Sai SCREECH INTO MY EARS every 1-2 minutes just to never see her because she just used it to get back into the jungle quicker is way more annoying.

gaby1best6 votes

They said his quotes are too long, that's why his are not global. They're not as memorable as a zombie screaming for brains or Nocturne darkness.

Not Katarina22 votes

I don't personally mind the Draven changes, but goddamn do I ever hate hearing Kalista whenever she binds with someone. A toggle would be nice.

TurquoiseYoshi20 votes

I agree. I hate hearing Kalista's ult everywhere for no reason. Like, I see Kalista is ulting bot lane. Why do I need to hear this while I'm clearing red buff? Especially if it's just to save a support. When Karthus ults, everyone can see it, so it should be global.

Daedalus87114 votes

Karthus Ults don't happen often enough to "crowd the airspace".

+1 OP

It would be kinda awesome to hear Karthus say "requiem" in a low, drawn out global voice.

Ironclad Dragon13 votes

The entire purpose of hearing Karthus' ultimate quotes globally is to indulge in his hammy performance.

Karthus SING, WITH YOUR FINAL BREATH Karthus

Please Riot. Making champions that players can identify strongly with and/or become very deeply interested in based on lore, visuals, audio, etc. rather than just gameplay, is a goal of yours, right?

This would be an easy way to make the Karthus-playing experience much more immersive and his long-cooldown ulti more satisfying. Also, it would be more clear for the opponents, as well as making the match against him feel more dramatic. If I'm low health desperately hoping my recall completes before it's too late, and I suddenly hear, LISTEN...AND REJOICE IN DEATH! before exploding, then at least it will have a more tragic, "epic" feeling (so to speak) than just the psssssssshhhhhhh thud sound effect his ulti currently makes.

Yeah, why do I need to hear "the pact has been taken" at the beginning of every match? Sometimes I hear it before any pact is even made!

Squarefighter11 votes

I mean, as much as i think the Kalista quotes are dumb, and as much as I want the Karthus quote to be global because holy shit that would be cool, a little blurb in chat saying the Draven got gold isn't comparable to a global noise at all.

Ironclad Dragon1 votes

Read it and weep.

At 200 stacks or more, the sound for Draven cashing in his stacks is heard globally by all players and an announcement is made in chat.

Squarefighter3 votes

Ah mb. I guess Karthus just doesn't do it all... with style.

Seriously, why does Kalista need to have a global quote when she binds to an ally? The enemy team doesn't need to know when Kalista binds to her ally because it's a localized, permanent effect, and Kalista is going to bind to an ally so the enemy team doesn't need to know that she binded herself to an ally.

If Kalista got one when there is no good reason for her to get one, there is no good reason for someone who has a good reason to get one (like Karthus) to get one, especially considering there is MASSIVE gameplay value by offering an audio queue to either try and interrupt Requiem or use whatever defensive abilities you have to block its damage when the visual queues are muffled by other visual gameplay elements currently on the screen.

Pretty much my sentiments.

While we're at it, we should also add Veigar's laugh and Gangplank's laugh to their ults again. I mean, if Singed gets a laugh on his flip, why don't these guys get their audio?

But yeah, Karthus has one of the BEST voice-overs. He should definitely get a global quote. PLEASE RITO.

ElJanitorFrank4 votes

I agree 100% about giving Karthus global sounds for the 'icing on the cake' factor, but you have to look at this pragmatically. It isn't necessary, as there's a visual indicator and a audible indicator already.

I like the Draven change, if I'm jungling I would know to look out for Draven if he has a lot of stacks, and to be wary because I know he's just got a lot of bonus gold, etc.

Again, I WANT Karthus to have quotes on ult, but you cannot say that Draven and Karthus equally deserve the changes you proposed/has happened. Karthus already has indicators, and Draven does not.

And I'm extremely disappointed that Pentakill Karthus doesn't have quotes either.

edit: I agree, Kalista makes no sense to me. It could do with an audio indicator and such; you need to know when one of their team members is inside Kalista, but it doesn't need to be global, and it doesn't need to be an entire quote.

It Hertz When IP2 votes

It acts as a verbal indicator to his ult, which would be nice in one of the really chaotic battles. One faint glowy pillar above me might go unnoticed in a heated fight, whereas Karthus' relatively distinctive voice would be recognizable.

Plus, it'd be really cool, even if he was on the enemy team.

SpecterVonBaren4 votes

They should at least have the enemy team hear him laugh when he ults.

Also, their official reason is because of alternate languages, because some of Karthus's ult quotes are reeeeeeeeeeaaaaalllllllllllyyy long, so long that his ult will be over way before he finishes them which they feel would be annoying to have to listen to on a regular basis.

Also, I can't post in a Karthus thread without bringing up the best Karthus video of all time.

If ever there was a change that league needed, this is it.

gg git diff3 votes

I could be wrong, but I believe Riot’s logic is that with multiple languages the quotes might not be the right length for his ulti. I’m not sure if thats true or not, but the simple solution seems to be a global laugh when he ults.

Clearly isn't an issue with Kalista.

I just really hope the Draven thing will be allies only. Might as well give the entire enemy team True Vision of him when he's over 200 stacks because he's all they'll be going for.

Only Aatrox2 votes

I don't even play Karthus but I really want him to screm "I am the Lightbringeeeeeer" globally on the pentakill skin when he casts his ult.

iLuma2 votes

I would be perfectly okay with Pentakill Karthus quote to play while he's channeling his ult. Can you imagine being top lane, barely surviving a gank and all you hear is . . .

"YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!"

I ain't even mad.

Karthus begins to ult, then while he ults, a pentakill song plays if he's using pentakill karthus.

Have him sing a few verses from one of the pentakill songs.
