Why did they buff Annie awhile ago?

I mean she was already a lane bully so why did they give her an infinite sustain Q? Doesn't that seem like a very bad decision for balance because no matter who she lanes against she has a viable option of harass. She has her Q which refunds its mana cost entirely if it kills someone (ok riot wtf on this) and it halves the CD if it does so. So you are saying she should get free pushing power and infinite sustain because she last hits with her Q? That doesn't make sense considering how long her AA range is. Her AA range is one of the longest in the game for mages.

All they did was make her a bigger lane bully with 0 draw backs because in previous patches the buffed her ult making it a shorter CD late game. So I wonder how long until she is the next FotM bick or ban champ because Riot pumped so much into her ancient kit out of nowhere when her kit has huge AoE nukes. Morgana recently surfaced as a support, kind of wonder if Annie may pop up as a dominant mid or even support (again) because of how much utility they gave her.

That was like 10 months ago, and i'm glad they made that change. Made laning with her more fun. But like FarRock stated, her auto attack is slow as balls and her range is really short. You shouldn't die to annie in lane unless she flash ults you, which is pretty sad. She is really strong, really bursty, yea, but you should be playing champs with longer range into that match up.

Then why does no one in Masters + Challenger use her except Annie_Bot? I main Annie - you are leaving a few critical points out:

  1. She has SLOOOOOOW AA. It is very hard to last hit with her AA especially under tower. So her Q needs to be her auto attack of sorts or she will always be outfarmed.
  2. She has a very slow base movement speed.
  3. Her spells have ridiculously short range.

So when you consider all of these you land at Annie's main laning problem: Facing long range mages. Say someone like Lux or Vel'koz starts poking down Annie with spells. So you need to fall back. Now you need to farm with AA cause if you get close enough to Q you will be rek'd; so you miss a ton of CS (because of slow AA from very far range). Not to mention; you need to start boots cause of their skill shots so now you are on lower HP, AP, and mana regen.

This is why I predict Annie will NEVER become FOTM at Challenger level.

Just because her spells have short range doesn't mean she isn't strong. Especially now that there is yet another engage item in the game. There are 3 items for her to engage now. Talisman, Frost Queen's, and Righteous Glory. On top of this she has a stun that is easy to proc multiple times in a fight with her E making her pretty durable and her ability to burst people down almost immediately after RoA.

Sure if she fights a long range mage they out range her but 90% of them require being close to finish her or to not be CC'd out of their ult. You severely underestimate her range. Her range includes Tibber's AoE. Which puts her max range at 800. Also she doesn't necessarily have to walk into the enemy team she can just as easily abuse removal of wards to make an entire section of the map unsafe because she could be camping a bush.
