Oh wait every time they do they get down voted to hell even when they say intelligent things. I see Meddler post things that get hidden due to being below thresh hold when he makes tons of valid points.

Maybe stop band wagoning against Riot doesn't know what they are doing and realize maybe that the people who understand the game just aren't being allowed to change it how they want and are being very cautious at how they go about it.

People down voted Meddler for saying that 80s CD on an ult is a big window of counter play when the champ relies on said ult. When that ult can not only be QSS'd as well as Zhonyas'd. Yes I'm referring to Zed here.

But he is correct if you look at Akali, her ult is on a really low CD and there isn't as big of a window to kill her safely. Same goes with Fizz and Ahri. Both have small windows to kill them. While Zed has small windows to die but an even smaller window for a kill against a good team. The reason he is picked so often is people don't know how to counter build. They think the game is all about counter picking.

Hell last night I had a game where we had a tryndamere lock jung after I called. So I picked ahri and went bot lane with smite to set their jungle back to give us some breathing room. I built a morelo because they had 4 healing reliant champs (I mean DFG is leaving soon might as well get used to not using it). And then I build an abyssal because they had a lot of AP but we were lacking a tank and this is where most people are going to complain about me. I built the rest of her tank because we had none. Yes tank Ahri. Why? Because we had plenty of damage and with my utility and highish base damages I can still remain a threat and draw massive aggro. And guess what. Our terrible team comp won because I could sit there and soak damage as well as CC and burst. I traded my own build for the sake of the team and we won.

Counter building can win most games, but the problem is people don't realize that stacking armor doesn't do much if you have no health to back it up. And Zed excels at killing low health targets whether they were full or not because they stack armor for his massive armor pen.

And I will tell you I honestly despise Akali and Fizz more than Zed because I know if I can bait Zed's ult I can win against him. You just can't be nearly as reckless with your spells and constantly have to gauge who has the advantage as he is the assassin and you are more than likely a mage. With Akali sure she may lose a trade but she has enough spell vamp to stop caring and start another fight in about 30s with full hp and you are at half from the last fight.

With Fizz you have to either kill him pre-6 or you lose because his troll pole starts to really spike his power after 6 combined with his ult power spike. The Troll pole merely annoys me because its pure nope. You have no say in it. He can dodge anything he pleases unless it was already on him and that isn't very much.

The thing is Zed sacrafices his kill potential pre-6 by having an amazing 6, but if the enemy was building right they can play safe until they get their rushed Zhonya's or QSS and then kill him if he tries anything. Then Zed is forced to roam and if you pay attention and your lanes pay attention he is pretty much out of the game unless they feed him.

Well, I'd hope getting tons of down-votes doesn't discourage reds from posting here. Their job is akin to a referee's, no matter what they say... at least 50% of the people on here will disagree and be pissed.

Passion is a two-sided coin, with the appreciation comes the frustration.

That's true, but does the frustration really have to turn into hostility? It's one thing to be frustrated or even angry at changes to something well-loved, but it's another to lash out at the people held responsible and hurl insults and accusations at them. It takes a very low expectation of the playerbase's overall maturity to assume that players aren't capable of controlling themselves or channeling their frustration in more productive ways, and I think setting the bar that low is toxic to everyone involved. An overwhelmingly large number of threads on the Gameplay & Balance boards are hate posts directed at specific champions, items or Rioters in the balance or design teams, and even then the ones that do try to make a constructive point are often made in a very hostile tone, and all of these threads attract comments with huge variance on the positiveness of their contributions. On top of this, these unproductive threads also tend to be among the most popular, and consequently drown out others that often have more thought and effort put to them.

Obviously, asking for nice and orderly boards is a tall order, and one that would've been already made possible if it were that easy, but wouldn't it be ideal to have both the appreciation and the frustration channeled into constructive discussion? Reds are working hard to try and improve the quality of General Discussion; are the other boards being worked on too? Gameplay & Balance I think is particularly important, since this is where the board community posts feedback on both League and changes made to it. Ideally, this is the place Riot could use to take the game's pulse, see what the community wants and suggests, and discuss future changes: while this does happen, and more often than people admit, it would be a lot easier and a lot more pleasant for everyone involved if the board's quality level were raised significantly.

AbodyHUN6661 votes

The matchmaking in normals is quite bad before reaching level 30 because many people use smurfs, duo with low level players or come back after quitting the game after a week of playing. By the time you reach level 30 you will get players a lot closer to your skill level. Also ranked and normal games have different matchmaking because diamond players tend to only use normals to learn and try new champs, so they might get a lot lower rating there.

Passion is a two-sided coin, with the appreciation comes the frustration.

A way to cut down some of that frustration though, and to make the community better would be to get rid of the Up/down vote reddit based system, as that brings out a lot of the toxicity in people here. Most can't even say anything in the thread instead just go long with a vote and leave. If this wasn't part of it, at least we'd be able to see more input on things rather then them disappearing.

These are a ton of good points you made. Riot already realized the dominance of the AD Mid Laners after the Mana Regeneration changes, and they already fixed some of Yasuo's power, so Zed is their next priority. Zed just has a crap ton of mobility, and with the shadow mimicking his abilities, he can waveclear rather easily. The energy regeneration being a fixed amount is also part of the issue. I can only guess that what they do with Zed will change his values and scalings quite a bit, and then change what adds damage to his ultimate's mark, that way you don't have those instances where people think: "oh man! I just escaped Zed's clutches! I'm low on health but this mark won't do that much---" POP!!! Zed HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA

Marenjii8 votes

LMAO of course he got downvotes for that. 80 seconds is nothing when BC, and Youmuu's are core parts of his build giving him 20% CDR, with Ionian's giving him an extra 15%. 40% CDR Zed has a shit ton of damage, and can ult twice in a minute. Blow the ADCs QSS, shadow out, and do it again as they have to wait a minute and a half to get it back.

DJ Siamak6 votes

Counterbuilding Zed isn't as easy if you're not a mage since Zed can kill just about anything late-game without his ult.

Knight Devout6 votes

Well, meddler comment was unfortunate.

He tried to say that the problem with Zed wasn't his ult, but he said as to make it look like Zed is perfectly fine when it isn't like that, and they even said so in the patch notes. Now, I won't discuss here why is so, there are tons of posts about it, and you are right. Just saying, even pre-nerf Leblanc had some counterplay, that didn't made her balanced. Counterplay (and counterbuilding) aren't as easy as saying "well, Zed is countered by QSS, therefore Zed is balanced". And the patch notes said so, problems with Zed lie outside his simple lane and counterplay, and they often revolve around how Zed can fare well even when you are countering him right thanks to roaming potential and splitpushing (again, read the patch notes). basically, he said that Zed is design wise healthy, but he made it sound like he is gameplay wise healthy, which he is not.

Plus, try to look it from another pov. Zed was a top competitive pick for so long, while Diana was nerfed to trash because, by Riot standard she's an unhealthy assassin. so, the principle is "keep neglecting unhealthy champion instead of fixing them" ? At this point I'm not sure, but what I'm sure is that post would have pissed the majority of Diana players , because it said " your champ is shit, and will still be shit, because we can't give her a kit that involves counterplay".

mi ramfan6 votes

While I agree that the Rioters who post on balance concepts should generally get a better reception than they do, they shouldn't get a free pass to say stuff that doesn't make any sense or is flat out wrong, and we SHOULD call them out (politely) when we feel that they're either missing something important or not following through on their stated design goals.

For example, earlier this week Meddler discussed Zed's 80 second ultimate cooldown as one of his major limitations. He was correct in that Zed is generally dependent on his ultimate to assassinate people, but he also forgot to mention that the cooldown on Zhonya's Hourglass (the main counter to Zed for AP champion) has a 90 second cooldown, and that his use of energy in conjunction with Q waveclear makes stalling out the 80 seconds without his ultimate a trivial affair.

Rioters should be treated with the same respect we give every other forumgoer, but since they have the ability to test changes internally we should call them out when they say something that is blatantly incorrect or leaves out important nuances of the situation. Disrespect or reckless attacks should both be left out of the conversation, but downvotes and respectful disagreement are both fair game.

AbodyHUN6661 votes

Still downvotes shouldn't be used when someone just disagrees with someone, but Meddler was treated as if he posted some ranty comment on a civil discussion (which was quite the opposite).

Direwolfiez3 votes

Still downvotes shouldn't be used when someone just disagrees with someone

Says who? Seems to me that it's a perfect gauge to see what the majority of the community thinks, and not just what the 5 people that replied think.

mi ramfan2 votes

While I tend to agree with you that downvotes shouldn't be used to silence opposing opinions, I don't think downvoting Rioters is as big an issue because their posts get automatic visibility. If, say, me and a bunch of people got together and downvoted your post, you'd completely vanish from the argument and lose your voice because nobody would be able to see your post. That isn't the case for Rioters, especially not for a live balance/design rioter like Meddler, since people are going to read what he posted no matter what the score is at.

Direwolfiez1 votes

You do realize that negative points posts are just automatically hidden, not removed, and you can toggle them back on? I don't know about you, but I always toggle to see what they said that got them so massively downvoted.

Ahri Morello and Abyssal are fine. As for rest tank, it depends what sort of items....there's such a thing as tanky ap. Abyssal, Rod, Rylay, Zhonya, Seraph, Liandry, Banner of command are the "tanky ap" items. It's not bad to get 1 majorly defensive item, like either a thornmail or a Banshees depending on which enemy is a big threat, but I don't think you're at your best when largely ignoring your scalings and relying on the little utility you have. I don't see the utility in a single CC with long cd either. You have nothing on other champs cc-wise. lol

If a Red says something I disagree with, I'm going to express my opinion. Yeah but knock ups weren't so bad when every character and their mom released had them. I'm not here to kiss asses. I'm here to point out that Riot usually is pretty spot on with their analysis the question though are the people doing the analyzing doing the balancing?

Direwolfiez4 votes

The whole point of these forums is for players to talk with Reds and fellow players, and come up with good ideas, which also (ideally) doubles as preventing Riot from being the sole source of every new idea.

I'm sorry, but when I hear the words "You shouldn't disagree with X because they know what they're doing," I inwardly cringe. It reminds me of people so convinced by political BS that they no longer question things themselves and passively accept every new thing that is thrust upon them. Not saying that Riot is like this, but that's how dictatorships get started.

I'm not claiming that Average Joes like you and me can make the game better than Riot can, but FFS, one of the reasons Boards exist is to promote communication between Reds and players. Why else do you think Reds post in threads all the time now? We'd ultimately be doing them a disservice by only giving them thumbs up and compliments; I'm not saying we should insult them, but seriously, constructive criticism is almost always a good thing, and really, unless you can express yourself well enough to say WHY you disagree with X, the only way you can say you don't like something is to downvote. Remember, Reds are normal people too, and just like us, they can be wrong. It's our responsibility as active players to point out when we think they're wrong, since we have no idea if anyone else at Riot is doing it for them.

AbodyHUN6661 votes

I agree with you, we need to tell Riot what we like and what we don't like, but we shouldn't treat them like trash. Downvote is mainly here for moderation if someone says someting insulting or off-topic, so I wouldn't downvote a real arguement which I happen to disagree with.

To be fair, "don't get hit by them" is perfectly valid counterplay. It reduces damage and knockup duration to 0.

Direwolfiez2 votes

Kinda hard to always do, especially when several manaless champs that are gated only by CDs have AoE knockups. There is absolutely no other way to get rid of the stun AND the movement block, yet every other CC, besides suppression, is reduced by Tenacity, and almost every other type of CC can be instantly cleansed by Cleanse, Mikael's, or QSS. The only thing you can do is remove the stun, that's it. It'll still knock you up for the full duration, even if you have max Tenacity,* so...if you don't have Flash and aren't Trynd or GP, you're fucked.

*That was actually incorrect, Tenacity only shortens the actual knockup, it does absolutely nothing for the stun, so you'll still have to cleanse the stun and use Flash just to get out of ONE goddamn type CC.

Knockups consist of a displacement AND a stun, yet most of them aren't really that hard to land. How is that good for balance? Most champs would have to chain two skills together to get the same effect, yet the ones with knockups in their kits basically get free power added in because some Reds think that knockups are cool-looking.

Yes and when Blitz hooks you you're dead.

You're essentially saying it's completely impossible to not get knocked up.

Direwolfiez1 votes

At least Blitz has a real CD on his, and uses mana. My main beef is with the manaless champs that have AoE knockups built directly into their kits without losing any sort of power for it, like Rek'Sai. She was supposed to already lose some power for her stupid mobility, yet she gets an AoE knockup anyway. Don't even get me started on Yasuo; he doesn't even really lose anything for missing his 3rd Q, he just has to spam his Q two more times and boom, it's back up. Why I hate manaless champs in a nutshell.

Vel'Koz is the only new champ with a knockup that I honestly don't have a problem with. He's immobile, and his knockup isn't stupid hard to dodge, so again, I don't have a problem with him.

zed is broken as shit. Anyone who doesn't agree is a zed main or obviously doesn't play enough league to fight one often.

Fizz zed Syndra Lucian Thresh Grraves Nami Lee sin Gnar are all broken sacks of shit that throw this games balance out of the window.

ahri was the beginning of a terrible chain of champions and changes that have nearly completely destroyed depth in this game.

You might not agree right now and say what I'm writing is exstreme but its only the truth I give to you. Riot has made a lot of stupid design decisions that have completely bottlenecked the champion pools to little to nothing.

Any pro will tell you only the broken champions get played because they're abusable. No one is going to play something balanced like cho'gath on a regular basis. And why is that? Because stupid shit like renekton has existed or stupid shit like gnar exists with higher base damage and safer play and percentage damage and less counterplay than the former.

Nerfing these champions does nothing it would only rotate another champion into his place.

The only answer is to stop adding champions into the game that do not have a clear cut weakness and exploitable counterplay.

The problem must be cut at its roots, at its core. If league ever wishes to continue being a good game and not forgotten as another lost cause or just just become "old" and "outdated" like guild wars 1 or broodwar was.

Both of these games were amazing and I played them both quiet alot. One was ruined by a terrible expansion the other simply became dwarved because an expansion of "new and shiny" things came out that made it look old.

Riot seems to be stuck between making their champs like Dota 2's heroes, where every hero has a bullshit kit, yet they're not completely sure about it, so they're leaving the non-bullshit champs the way they are, all while making more bullshit champs. Intelligent =/= Downvotes

Players that do not like/disagree with Riot do this.

Maybe stop band wagoning against Riot doesn't know what they are doing and realize maybe that the people who understand the game just aren't being allowed to change it how they want and are being very cautious at how they go about it.

Ok I didn't really understand this, but from what I can tell, you're saying that people bandwagon on hating Riot because they don't know how caution Riot has to be in order to not screw the balance.

If that's what you say, Riot has promised a lot of things, and they have not followed up on a lot of those things. They claim that many things are on their radar, yet they fail to meet the demands of what the game needs. Riot isn't cautious, they knee-jerk-react constantly to champion popularity spikes and instead of buffing everyone, they nerf one only. I know, buffing everyone would take a ludicrous amount of time to accomplish all while balancing. But hows that Fighter rework going? Where is the change? What's new? Aside from another champion rising from obscurity because the new flavor of the month got nerf struck?

People down voted Meddler for saying that 80s CD on an ult is a big window of counter play when the champ relies on said ult. When that ult can not only be QSS'd as well as Zhonyas'd. Yes I'm referring to Zed here.

Aside from the after burst, which Zed almost doesn't need if hes ahead, he can still make use of the shadow and the gap closer. Zed is overloaded with too much mechanics and not enough of the weaknesses.

Akali is and has been broken for a while. Kit's too binary. Either she face rolls, or dies in the dust. Ahri dashes away because she can't do much else if she misses charm, except hope the enemy is low. Fizz is too lenient with the Playful/Trickster cooldown, 8 seconds at level 5 is too generous. Brutal since he can pretty much avoid death itself.

Uh good for you?

Counter building can win most games, but the problem is people don't realize that stacking armor doesn't do much if you have no health to back it up. And Zed excels at killing low health targets whether they were full or not because they stack armor for his massive armor pen.

What you're saying here is not news, everyone knows of this. You claim armor alone isn't enough? Doesn't do it's job because you need health to back it up? Then we have a problem. There is not enough "effective health" (Damage you block with armor + health basically) to deal with Zed when he buys item 3071 item 3153 item 3035.

Again, what you say is nothing new. Zhonyas, QSS/Scimitar, etc. People know this, they're not "uninformed" on the contrary, they've experienced time and time again how armor is effectively useless despite having built health items. Tanks are not working. Oh yeah, I'm going to rush zhonyas pre-6 while he W-E-Qs me to death with no costs. Did I mention he can effectively wave clear in relative safety as well?

With Fizz you have to either kill him pre-6 or you lose because his troll pole starts to really spike his power after 6 combined with his ult power spike. The Troll pole merely annoys me because its pure nope. You have no say in it. He can dodge anything he pleases unless it was already on him and that isn't very much.

Nope on a low cooldown.

You expect Zed to scratch his head if you Zhonyas his ult? Guess what? He's still there(He can take a few hits under tower too because he'll just R right out. Unless you're Annie with a point and click stun, he's just going to run right back out.

@ OP: Or maybe the voting system which Riot designed can not suck and be able to be abused?

Either or really.
