Bring back DFG so the AP assassins can get in on this.
Sure Syndra or Annie might buy it too, but hey least the AP Assassin class will be able to instagib anyone shield or not with it!
Not like champions outside of assassins building assassin items has stopped Riot before.
I don't really think a lack of damage is the issue with assassins in this meta. Wave clear is out of control, mobility is out of control. As a result waves are instantly shoved and teams are constantly grouped. Assassins don't function in team fights to the capacity that mages do. They can even be outright useless in a game of full-on team fighting.
They are designed to take advantage of isolated targets. Isolated targets don't happen right now.
