Counters make it so you no longer have to counterplay or be good at your champion

I see this especially in the top lane. vs would be a good example, I can click 1 button and she's completely useless. Now I don't think this is an issue with champions. I think this is an issue with early game power. Early game lane phase has become so important that losing that will set u farther back even in the mid to late game. Sure, if Garen countered riven in the lane phase but at 30-35 minutes Riven would be atleast strong enough to be useful in late game teamfights there would be no issue, but the thing with counterpicks is that it no longer counterpicks the lane phase but the entire game. You will never be able to beat that Garen in 1v1, CS, Damage, tank, or teamfight presence. As a champion he will be useful in every single aspect.

Garen is probably the worst champion pre 11 before his passive kicks in.Riven outscales Garen/Riven has a gapcloser /can stun/can engage/reengage/has more mobility/has a shield. Riven can vary combos which Garen cannot his Kit is binary if he charges with his q its up to you to do whatever you want. Once you get a hexdrinker and some lifesteal to fight you can 1v1 Garen at any time if you are not a monkey he has no sustain in a fight and can be outplayed because of his predictible/binary kit.

And its not just my opinion its a fact that AdamReformed (Mastertier Garen only player EUW) and riste (Mastertier Garen only player NA) also stated that Riven beats Garen.

Its only an issue cause some picks are outdated. You have possibility to outplay most of new champs. Thats said Riven is pretty stupid on her own...

Garen's cute he can counter x, but his kit is so poor... Even behin you'll be more revelant than a Garen fed. but anyway, good luck to die against Garen.
