Riot turned a great idea into a horrible one

Emotes were so cool in theory, until when I saw them. First off, I'm not spending any of my valuable RP in these. Not a chance. 450 rp is just too much especially for some cartoony ping that means literally nothing in terms of gameplay.

They would be a completely fine little extra that costed a small portion of IP, but for real it didn't have to cost RP. You ruined the whole idea and I have no idea what you were thinking about with this one Riot.

I mean, to be fair, skins also have no purpose besides cosmetic changes (meaning they don't impact gameplay), but I've still spent way too much money on skins. But I do agree with you, they shouldn't cost RP.

You can't disable skins though, plus they're active for the entire game and come with a nice splash.

These emotes last for seconds and no one might even see them.

Rp cost would be okay if it was cheaper. Or it they weren't just a small still image. Skins often have new colors, animation and sound so skins are worth the rp plus they are always there if you use them.

But near 5 dollars for a emote, lol. Maybe if they were animated in some comical fashion.

And of course for me there is no cute af Morgana and Kayle emotes. SMH riot.

Makes me wonder if they market tested their prices. Or if this release is effectively an open beta on the idea.

In either case, they probably need to see if they can actually sell enough of them to see if it's worth it. And because of that, people complaining about how it should be available of IP, I feel are being entitled. (However, I wouldn't mind if these emotes become available as Hextech loot)

Doubt bet they were like hey emotes for X amount on a survey then upped the cost. Like a reverse of runes refund, 40% a good refund? Yes? Okay we are giving you 10% type scenario.

As long as they don't interfere/replace the skin specific boxes we are supposedly going to get at certain pinnacles of leveling with the new system. I suppose that would be okay.

Ooo imagine animated Emotes?

Riot is always, always testing how dumb their playerbase is. Keep that in mind. They keep increasing the prices, they sell a visual update as the most expensive skin ever, they sell recolours you could make yourself in 5 minutes on MS Paint, and now this.

Don't blame Riot, blame the playerbase who keeps giving money to each of those things.

TyrekGoldenspear1 votes

Can I blame both?

Every time I hear "450 rp is just too much for something that bring nothing in terms of gameplay" I wonder if people would rather things that cost RP have effect on gameplay.

Flawless Fetus2 votes

Same. Lol. If everything gameplay related remains free, and everything aesthetic costs rp I don't see the problem. Obviously, I'd like to spend my IP on something (300k IP), but I'd prefer to keep the gameplay portion of the game without paid advantage - even if that means every aesthetic requires rp. They allow us to by chromas every now and then with IP; maybe they'll let us buy emotes with IP sometimes.

BBQChicken Alert2 votes

I guarantee you if riot made them cheaper they would sell more. I think a big problem for some is that they cost too much for what you're getting, and also the fact that people can just mute it makes it even worse. I know that personally I'd buy one that I liked if it was reasonably priced.

Yeah! I prefer to spend 1820 RP on some cartoony reskin that means literally nothing in terms of gameplay!

UnboundHades4 votes

skins do more and actually change what the champ looks like but hey spend 5 dollars on a shitty emote that will get muted

AdeBug1 votes

u cant mute skins :P

and some actually do give you an unofficial advantage

Oh like what?

Arcade Sona gives you more clarity on your passive, IBlitzcrank gives you a hook that could be harder to dodge for enemies, old Urgot (at least I think) also gave you more clarity on your ult, I wanna say damage res, or whatever it was, Etc

AdeBug1 votes

i posted about a velkoz skin making some abilities invisible (for me, hard to dodge), someone else recently posted about another velkoz skin making his ult invisible (for them, it was hard to control/land).

Idunno, I just saved myself 50-70 bucks by not going out and just chilling playing league. I'm not gonna haggle over 2 buck emotes. They give you joy, buy it. Simple as that.

I wouldn't actually surprise me if it was part of their marketing scheme.

They probably could sell it for 2 bucks. But having that as the static price doesn't give people the imitative to buy it.

Instead, they might use this higher price that doesn't seem like a good deal. And then run sales on the content. (Like they do with skins) Then all of a sudden, you have initiative because your buyers won't know when that content will be on sale again.

I'm more annoyed by the simple fact that rune pages purchased by RP, will not be refunded.

Instead, for every 4 pages purchased with RP (2360 RP), you get FORCED to basically buy a random skin chest (490 RP).

Seems fair, seems fair. Thanks for fucking nothing Riot.

DrCyanide1 votes

You keep those RP Rune pages in the new system though, so instead of having 2 custom pages you get your RP pages as well. The skin is to try to cover the pages feeling less valuable and more optional.

Athenes Lulu2 votes

Reminds me of chromas all over again. Except, at least you can get emotes individually.

Warkinge2 votes

Chromas are well done though. They cannot be muted. and Cost 195 Rp each wich is not 450. Like for an emote you can get two chromas. If emotes were as well at 195 it would be ok i belive.

DrCyanide1 votes

Chromas weren't well done at the start, they were really bad quality and no one was going for them. They had to up the quality and quantity you got for people to start to accept Chromas.

Skorch2 votes

First off: Riot has ACTUALLY 0 Obligation to make them Free. It simply makes 0 sense from any standpoint. Second of all: Are you telling me it would make sense if something cost 450RP for something that CHANGES gameplay?

PePsiLemoNN1 votes

They weren't cool in theory and they aren't cool in practice.

I have no hate about this emote thing... But i disable the emote touch. Are u serious with your emote on T ? its MY taunt touch [sg-shisa] And i won't buy any emote anyway

Luckily, Thumbs Up and mastery emotes is really all that's needed.

Seriously, they work in every situation.

As opposed to the skin you bought - which also means literally nothing in terms of gameplay as well?

Mannny2 votes

If you're seriously comparing the quality of skins to the quality of emotes you should really reconsider what you're looking at here.
