BotRK and Guinsoo's Rework Suggestion, New Masteries and Runes - Making On-Hit Great Again

Considering how much Kog'Maw is struggling atm and the fact that Fervor won't be an on-hit anymore in the near future, I thought I might aswell share my ideas on how I would rework Guinsoo's and BotRK, since both are pretty mediocre atm. Also some ideas for new runes and masteries that can make up for the loss of Fervor.

Let's get right into it.

New Mastery - Swift Strikes: Would be a tier 5 mastery. For this to work, Piercing Thoughts and Battering Blows, the masteries which give 7% armor and magic penetration, would have to be united into one mastery which gives you both to free up the slot for Swift Strikes. The same way Piercing Thoughts gives you both lethality and flat magic penetration.

Basically the mastery for those champions who can't get enough of attack speed and want to stack the shit out of it, same way Intelligence is the mastery for those who do the same with CDR.

Intelligence: Grants 0.06/0.12/0.18/0.24/0.3 flat attack speed as well as increasing the cap for attack speed by the same amount.

New Runes - Magical/Physical On-Hit: You can already get it as a stat by buying a Recurve Bow but it could be a rune aswell. It's main runes would be marks and Quints. I'm not going to bother to do the math for their values but you get the basic idea.

Item Rework: Blade of the Ruined King: Thought long and hard about this and on how to make it good without either killing it for all non on-hit champions or killing it for all on-hit champions. Basically came down to what could be done with the lifesteal. You can see below what I came up with - now it's basically the go-to item for on-hit sustain. Can already see how Kog and Yi would love this.

Blade of the Ruined King: Bilgewater Cutlass + Recurve Bow + 1150 gold = 3650 gold 25 AD 40% attack speed 40 physical damage on-hit Unique Passive: 15% of all damage dealt by basic attacks and on-hit effects is returned to you as health. Unique Avtive: Deal (100% AD) as physical damage to target champion and trigger on-hit effects, heal for 100% of the damage dealt and steal 25% of the target's movement speed for 3 seconds ( 550 range and 90 second cooldown ).

Item Rework: Guinsoo's Rageblade: By now everyone knows this item sucks.

It has so many flaws. It's supposed to be the central scaling item for attack speed and on-hit champions, yet it has much more of it's gold value put into AP and AD, either one or both of which tend to be a huge gold dump because you simply just can't make use of all of the item's stats at the same time. Also, the central attack speed and on-hit scaling item having no base attack speed and as much on-hit as a Recurve Bow.

The item below is basically what I think it should look like. It's aiming to be the Rabadon's or the Infinity Edge of on-hit builds. An item that is not really that strong on its own but scales really well once you have enough other items and the gold to afford it.

Some may say that it's supposed to be more of a hybrid item but I think that most hybrids don't seem to struggle right now, just take a look at Kayle or Jax's winrate, so they really don't need this extra item to be specifically designed for them.

For this to item to work, Recurve's passive on-hit would also have to not be a unique feature anymore so that you can stack several Recurve Bows.

Guinsoo's Rageblade: Recurve Bow + Recurve Bow + Dagger +1300 gold = 3600 gold 60% attack speed 60 magic damage on-hit Unique Passive: Basic attacks grant 10% attack speed for 5 seconds stacking up to 6 times. At 6 stacks gain Guinsoo's Rage: Every other basic attack will trigger on-hit effects an additional time. Unique Passive: Attack speed granted by this item ignores the cap for attack speed.

Would love to see your opinion on these.

You got guinsoo's identity wrong, it is supposed to be a hybrid item.

The hybrid item niche is already filled by Nashor's and Gunblade. Plus, there are only 2 champions who make use of AP, AD, attack speed AND on-hit all at the same time while being able to stack it properly, Jax and Kayle. And even then you rarely buy it on them because there are better options.

Maybe in its first iteration that was its identity but this is already not what it is supposed to be anymore since the last pre-season. This happend to a lot of items. Just remember that Youmuu's once was intended to be an attack speed and crit item and then look at the reworked Youmuu's that is on the PBE. I think doing the same to Guinsoo's won't be a problem.

Teemo Yup Akali totally TwistedFate just Udyr two Varus champs Shyvana Diana

Teemo doesn't scale well with AD, Akali not with attack speed or on-hit, Phoenixdyr not with AD, Tigerdyr not with AP, Varus doesn't auto a lot either, Shyvana scales badly with AD and AP, Diana with AD and on-hit.

Still have to auto with pheonixdyr, akali can actually be pretty scary considering she has the single best on-hit in the game on her passive along with having one of the highest attack speeds in the game, Teemo has to auto to get the e damage which chances are he is maxing first, Shyv scales well with ad, and can still make somewhat decent use out of the ap, Varus blight stacks scale 25% ap per hit, and 1% max health per 100 ap per stack popped.

Actually shyvana is better off grabbing rageblade for damage then going tanky, while you may say she doesn't scale well with ad/ap she still scales with it and the multiple on-hit procs.

Sadly most are still in the "I must buy bloodrazor" instead of going back to cinderhulk, picking up rageblade and go back to older builds.

Well people might actually go hybrid if they had more itemization.

I don't think so, because going full AD or AP is significantly better even on hybrid champions, and so because of penetration, multiplicative items, etc. Hybrid champions have more itemization options than other champions, not fewer, because they can technically pick up any AD or AP item and scale with it. Even so, hybrid champions don't build hybrid, and only pick hybrid items for bonuses other than hybrid stats: if Hextech Gunblade no longer gave AD, Akali would still buy it for the sustain and active, which wouldn't change much since she builds full AP otherwise anyway. The same would apply if Guinsoo's Rageblade no longer gave AP or AD, since the item is designed purely for on-hit build, including on champions like Vayne, who has zero AP scalings. At best, hybrid items don't actually give hybrid champions more interesting options, and at worst, their hybrid stats are a hindrance on champions who buy them, as they'd be much more comfortable with either pure AD or pure AP.

Except Rageblade is still supposed to be Hybrid. Gunblade still sucks and needs a fix.

Not anymore. Now it's the "infinity edge of on-hit items", only unlike infinity edge, it sucks balls.

Hmm. I like the idea and agree that some things need to be done, but it seems like you're getting ahead of yourself. Here's my thoughts.

Swift Strikes. Flat attack speed is a bad idea. There is a reason there are no flat attack speed items in the game. It gives a gigantic buff to a champ in the early game. With that I could get 1.1 attack speed as level 1 nocturne, without any attack speed runes. I suggest having the mastery (with all 5 levels) add 20% to the total and maximum speed. It would help attack speed stackers more in the late game without making them level 1 monsters. Also, this would increase the cap to 3 attacks/second. If Riot wants to remove redundancy in the mastery tree, they could change Fury to increase damage from basic attacks and on-hit effects similar to sorcery.

On-hit runes. They would have to be pretty overtuned for someone to pick them. The balance team could probably do the math to decide if that would be good idea.

BORK. It needs to be buffed, yes, but the current health damage serves an important function to the game. You can't really take it away. I think it just needs the numbers tuned. I'd also like to see it proc as a spell effect. AP artillery has Liandry's to whittle down health tanks but AD artillery has nothing of the sort.

Guinsoo's rageblade. 120% attack speed is too heavy on one stat, it would leave the item in the gutter again, especially since almost every other on-hit item provides its own attack speed. I like how it starts out with lots of attack speed, but I think it still needs to provide some ap and ad. Riot could literally flip the current setup and make it so that it always has attack speed and the double on-hit every other attack, but it builds up ad and ap with autos. On-hit champs shouldn't be able to do the most damage with their first auto, but sustained fire should be very dangerous (and not suddenly beginning with the 6th auto). This setup would promote this.

I'm a harsh critic, but I like your initiative for thinking up a way to help on-hit champs.

Instead of combining the two tier 5's in offensive, just add that one in the middle. No one said we can't have 3 masteries in the 5 point slots.

We don't need on hit runes because attack speed actually exists. Instead just lower the price of AS runes.

I like the version of BoRK, however lower the cost by 200, 3650 is hella expensive.

Change Rageblade up, that build path feels terrible and the item is supposed to be a hybrid item. Plus, you didn't even give melee champions the ability to use it. Also breaking the attack speed cap is a useless passive since most rageblade buyers don't usually hit 2.5 AS, remove the potential for mistakes then let them happen.
