Can you finally define Ryze's identity?

The way he is now, you don't even know what's effective after item 3027 item 3003 other than more AP. The damage coming from mana, you just don't feel it anymore. He got all of his core defensive items nerfed to the ground, but it is still necessary for him to remain in close range to be effective. And no, rito, having a shield once in a while doesn't make him tanky and enjoyable to play. I don't really have an issue with any of his abilities, but it seems to me that Ryze is becoming much too similar to a generic AP mage. item 3020 item 3027 item 3003 item 3089 item 3157 item 3135 - is his typical build now, not so much different from what Anivia, Swain, Karthus build. Oh and why build cdr items anyway when he got freaking 30% cdr from his ability and everyone picks those 5% cdr from masteries. Having so much innate cdr (even if only in lategame) greatly reduces the number of items to consider buying.

Did that change of Q making it a skillshot made Ryze eligible of DA PLAYS? Nope, he still QWERs shit like he used to do. But did it shut all the voices who were crying to riot about nerfing him? Definitely, good job Riot! Only a few nerfs left till Urgot-tier.

Sigh, bring back my old ryze.

tl;dr Ryze is another AP mage now, item 3070 item 3070

Generally, what defines a champion should be more from their Abilities, not their build path. Ryze did lose some tankyness from his ability changes. (now that Frozen heart isn't as good on him now) But over all he's still a Late game DPS mage. That hasn't changed at all.
