Hextech Blue and Orange Essence gains for First Win of the Day?

SnowFall··183 votes·5,723 views

Why not? About 50 for Orange and 100 for Blue every day should be ok. Upvote, guys, so that Riot hear this.

Honestly speaking, thats a bit too much. That means you can get a ward skin for just 3-4 days of playing, or some champion skins in 2-3 weeks. I could see them doing it if they gave out orange essence at a rate of maybe 10-15 for a first win. Don't know about blue essence, I have everyone already.

There is a limit on amount of chests you can get a month, there is key drop chance reduction, you get a random one anyway, and usually you get a champion shard, not a champion skin or ward skin champ. Perhaps only 50, yeah, but it should be fair.

Narasimha14 votes

The thing is, you can still stack it up. You could gain 350 orange essence a week with a bare minimum of 50 per first win. That would completely destabilize the chest system.

Roaranor5 votes

The system feels fair to me as is, though I'm speaking from personal experience.

The rate of champion to skin shards I've gotten has been about 50/50 (though I'm sure some people have had it worse). This feels kinda bad because I already own every champion. So, at the moment, only about half of the chests have had something usable for me. Of the skins, a couple of them are pretty neat (Tyrant Swain for ex.), but they're pretty much all for champs I don't really play (Grag, Kass, Swain, Yorick). So that detracts some more. And the curve on key drop rates feels pretty bad for what it is.

That said, the reason it feels fair to me is because I don't have to do anything special to get these things. They're being given to me by Riot for pretty much doing nothing except playing the game same as I would've been anyway (and of course, not showing excessive poor behavior). I don't have to go grind some special mode or spend 15 hours trying to get some obscenely hard "take no damage ever in Dark Souls" tier achievement. I just play the game like normal, and eventually I rack up enough key frags/chests to open one and get free stuff. If I have enough champ shards, I can reroll them to automatically get a new champ on release or save for a future incentive.

To me, adding essence to First Win of the Day would go exactly counter to reason for the curve on key frags and chests per month, which is so that is can be a nice, occasional thing for everyone rather than an advantage to grind for those that have more time to play per day/week.

ahferroin71 votes

The rate of getting champ shards seems to go down as you get more champs. I have all the champs, I've been getting about 1 champ shard for every 5 or 6 other loot items.

GaleWinUnleashed1 votes

I've observed differently. I also own all champs, and I've put a bit of money into buying chests cuz it's fun. I have 27 different champ shards, 33 skin shards, plus 2 summoner icons and 4 ward skins. Approximately a 45% rate of champion shards so far.

Im still learning how crafting works, but form what ive been abel to figure out its extremely limited, with a max of 4 chests per month, and something like 52 per year, reduced key drops, and having to grind out chest rewards t0 turn into essences, it feels like theres a lot of work for very minimal reward, i personaly think giving away a decent amount of essence for first win would be fine.

Dextix LT5 votes

Of course it is a lot of work. You are getting free things that cost money.

That the whole point, if something is free, you have to work for it.

Having even a decent ammount of essence on first win would break the system.

You want to have the cake and eat it.

Gubaguy1 votes

so, lemme see if i understand this correctly... I have a maximum of 52 chests i can earn in a year, each chest has a 100% random item in it, whether i own it already or not, that i dont even get to use unless ive scrapped a bunch of other items, meaning im getting MAAAAAAAYBE 1-2 skins per month...

And all im asking for is a little tiny boost, and im being greedy? Have you considered the fact that riot is asking between $5-$30 for each skin? skins that if my account gets banned, or hacked i jsut lose, that money i spent is jsut gone, just like that?

Lets take TF2 and use it as an example of how random drop reward system shoudl work, i play the game, i get a chance at a bunch of items per week, i can scrap the items if i dont like them or dont want them, or i can trade them, etc. the diffrence? My time is rewarded in a way that i feel rewarded. The more i play, the more rewards i get, no limiting me to one single item per week, no forcing me to buy or craft keys to get items (mostly), i can CHOOSE to buy the items, but if i play for a few hours a week i can jsut find all the items i want without being restricted by an arbitrary waiting system that actually feels like its punishing me for wanting to play the game.

Now, if riot wanted ot make the system better they woudl remove the chest per week system and change to a "chest based on performance" system, and make keys a bit harder to get, maybe up the fragments from 3 to 5, or make it so you have to play alternative roles to get keys, or SEOMTHING other then "yeah, 1 chest per week, and random chance at key fragments with no way of telling how to get one".

MVDuneCats2 votes

If you're supporting what the OP is proposing, it's more than a tiny little boost. Right now, you essentially get to keep one out of every 3 to 4 shards on average because you have to sacrifice some of the shards to get the essence you need to upgrade the few shards that you want to keep.

For the skin shards I have gotten so far, the amount of orange essence that they have been worth on average is 386. Free 50 orange essence every day would add up to 350 each week, which is close to getting the equivalent to another chest. If I take into account that only 2/3rds of my chests have yielding skin shards, that means I'm averaging the equivalent of 386 x 0.667 = 257 orange essence a week from chests. So that extra 350 orange essence a week would be like giving me more than the equivalent of another skin shard each week.

It's effectively shifting it away from only being able to keep 25%~33% of skin shards toward something more like 50% of them. That's more than a tiny little boost. That's a significant boost.

Gubaguy1 votes

You havnt factored in the fact that you wont get 100% skin shards, theres also wards, champions, etc. and new skins come out almost weekly at this point, and the HUGE champion selection pool... letting us keep 50% of our shards is a very minimal impact, i consider myself a smart spender when i play LoL, yet ive still spent over $400 on the game, and since most skins cost as little as $5, and others as much as $20+, and ive ONLY bought skins that have 100% overhaul on the champion, including new voiceovers, taunts, dances, whatever... Id say ive earned a few free things. Plus, theres still skins that CANT be earned through crafting them, and skins that i want right this very second that i wont have shards for and will buy if i want them anyways, so i dont see how letting me keep 50%ish of shards impacts riots overall profit.

Dextix LT4 votes

Yea, 1-2 skins per month. FREE skins that you wouldnt even get otherwise.

And yes, you are greedy, because you already are getting free things, but you want more. Riot doesnt even ask that much. Blizzard asks a lot more. But it is understandable, because they need to ask that money for the game to be alive and to create better content.

And if your account gets banned, its your fcking problem. And riot has a system against hackers with which you can easily take your account back. So your "Argument falls apart".

Comparing TF2 system and LOL is simply stupid. In LOL everything you receive is cosmetic. Nothing helps in the game. Most of the things you will receive in TF2 will be things that help you in the game, weapons that are better than originals.

In one month, i have opened 5 chests. I currently have 3 skin fragments and 2 ward skin fragments. All in all i can easily make 2 skins out o all of that.

2 FREE skins in one month. Over 10 Euros. FREE euros that i receive just for playing.

You are greedy. You are not content with an already good system that gives you free shit and you want to get more free shit. The current system is balanced well enough and is fair.

Gubaguy1 votes

wow, claiming nothing that drops in TF2 helps with the game? im now going to COMPLETELY ignore your entire argument because you dont know the FIRST THING about tf2, tf2 drops diffrent weapons, cosmetics, in game taunts, dances, and sorts of things, not JUST cosmetic skins for items, in fact there are some items in game that are from drops that have fully replaced vanilla weapons because theres no reason to use vanilla weapons over them.

Claiming that TF2 only drops cosmetics makes you pretty damn ignorant..

Dextix LT2 votes

Can you fcking read? I said that in LOL everything is cosmetic!

In LOL!

"Most of the things you will receive in TF2 will be things that help you in the game, weapons that are better than originals."

Did you even read or did you specifically ignore everything i said because you just want free shit and cant argument properly?

Gubaguy1 votes

Cute, you edited the post to make yourself look right! I read your post, al lthe way through, very very carefully before ignoring it compltely, becuase i had to be 100% sure you had no idea wht you were saying before i called you out.

But whatever, edit your post and pretend you were right the whole time, im done arguing with you, the craft system is basically garbage, and jsut a product of riot tricking you into thinking you are being rewarded for playign when yo9u are not.

Dextix LT1 votes

...............................

Alright.......

If you want more free shit and have no arguments, just say so.......

No need to lie.......

This however just proves my point. People are just greedy, and ready to do anything to satisfy their greed.

At this rate, i would even say that they shouldnt have implemented the crafting system at all, because people like this guy above will just try to get more and more.

Gubaguy1 votes

wow, You wanna know something? Ive gotten and opened every single chest im eligible for so far, and i have no crafted even a SINGLE skin yet. If im so greedy and want free shit then why wouldnt i craft them and get my free shit?

Oh right, becuase im not some greedy kid, im making a point based on the PRINCIPLE of the crafting system. Its poorly designed, the drops are terrible, and despite you accusing me of being greedy, i havnt even bothered to craft ANYTHING. and ive opened about 4 legacy skins, i jsut dont care. Ive also spent over $400 on the game, so you knwo what, take your arrogant selfish attitude and shove it.

At this point i dont even care if i lsoe my access to the crafting system, becuase then you woudl have 0 grounds to accuse me of anythign at all, stupid jackass.

Dextix LT1 votes

Drops are terrible, but you claim you received shards for 4 legacy skins?

Getting 4 legacy skins, is not terrible, at all.

I am "Accusing" you of being greedy, because you cannot explain how the system is bad exactly and what exactly should be done to fix it.

Because i see that it doesnt need to be fixed. Why? Because it is good enough for free things.

Riot could have not even implemented this system, and noone would have free skins.

Yet they did, and even when receiving free things, people are unhappy, because they want more.

Gubaguy1 votes

The system is bad because 1. its restricted, limited to a MAXIMUM of 52 in a year regardless of season. 2. At least 1/2 to 3/4th of what you get has to be melted down to craft the 1/4th you get ot keep. and 3. Its random, and doesnt factor in what you already have, so you have a chance to open jsut a bunch of stuff you already own. and finally 4. You can still pay for it, you can jsut pay to get "free" items, removing any true "free" aspect form it, it also makes it borderline gambling, buying something in the hopes of possibly getting somethign better but its random so you could actually lose money onit.

Dextix LT1 votes

It has to be limited because otherwise people could get all of the skins in the game for free, which would damage Riots inome and in turn, damage the game.

And yes, it is random, otherwise it could be abused and as a way to bypass the store which needs money and people could get anything they want.

And i dont think you understand the concept of "free" things. Just because you can pay for something, doesnt mean you cant get it for free. In this case, you can buy the skins or champions, or you can get them for free instead of paying.

Also, buying or not buying chests or keys, is a personal decision. You can get all of those without paying anything. But if you are not patient you can buy, but again, its your decision.

I dont think you understand how the game economy works, at all. For LOL to remain free it has to have a cash shop. This kind of system rewards people for playing, by giving them free things without needing to pay anything.

Those whoare impatient are given the choise to buy keys and chests, but it is their responsibility and their choise to "Gamble" or not.

The system doesnt enforce anything, and simply gives away free things that otherwise would have to be paid for.

Just a question. What kind of system would you want? A system where you can get everything for free? Maybe a system where you can choose what you get from the chests thus removing the need for the shop?

LOL needs to have some kind of earning engine, and skins are that engine. The loot system is there to give people free things, that they are not gratefull for, because they want more and more.

Gubaguy1 votes

Again, using TF2 as the example, its 100% free to play. You don thave to buy ANYTHING to play, everything you could want to play with is optional yo buy, but is also dropped every single day of the week if you are patient.

And TF2 still makes money for valve. Valve asks for nothing, and still makes money on the game becuase players CHOOSE to buy cosmetics, despite being able to get them jsut by PLAYING the game.

Dextix LT1 votes

You do realise that there are over 1000 items in TF2 and your chances of getting a cosmetic are as low as getting hextech annie?

Yes, you can get everything with the TF system. But good luck getting those items because most of the time you will get shitty weapon drops.

LOL system is good. It has less variables and offers higher rewards.

Llanite9 votes

Well if you could provide a valid reasoning besides "because I want more free stuff", I'm sure Riot would consider it.

Gubaguy2 votes

how about... you get a max of 52 chests in a year, and 3/4ths of them have to be erased/turned ot essence to get the rewards form a single chest?

Llanite3 votes

That's how you acquire and use shards.

Still doesn't explain to Riot why they should give you more shards.

I'll give you a hint, every non-charity transaction requires each party to give the other something. Riot would give you more shards, if you provide them something of value in return.

SKT T1 Maddog985 votes

Or you could be grateful for the free stuff they've already given you instead of asking for more.

Wimbledofy2 votes

great logic, since it's already free we don't get to ask for improvements to the system.

Dextix LT3 votes

I would actually say that. Riot was never obligated to do this for us, but they did.

Now everyone wants to have the cake and eat it.

Sorry, but when i see threads like these i see only greed.

The system is intentionally slow. It has to be.

But it is better than having nothing, because you get free shit.

Currently, after about 1 month i have 3 skin shards and 2 ward skin shards. That is a lot considering i can have 2 skins for free which would go over 10 euros.

10 Euros which i was freely given.

SKT T1 Maddog985 votes

There's a difference between asking for improvements and asking for more handouts.

RespectPlus5 votes

Are you serious? If they did, we would have no reason to break shards, just wait until we have enough essence

Chuck Charles2 votes

exactly. I've done the math roughly since I've put a fair amount of cash into the hextech system trying to get annie.

lets say you get the 10 chest bundle with an extra chest/key. thats 11 items. usually you will end up with disenchanting some and rerolling others into things that add up to about 2 to 3 items depending on what you end up getting.

ive spent around maybe 70-100 bucks total on hextech and I have gotten 3 legendary skins/ultimate skins. (dj sona, gentlemen cho, aether wing kayle) I've also gotten some good skins too and some legacy ones you can't get until seasonal like arcade sona, team spirit anivia, and a handful of other 750 rp skins. I have also gotten i think 4 icons, and almost all the champions where I owned a little more than half when I started.

I mean the system is great if you don't own all the champions and gives you way more value than you would get buying RP. the DJ sona skin itself is around 20-25 bucks and I got that, two other legendaries, 1/3 the champs, some icons, and a ton of other skins as well that this system is honestly really worth it.

now the only downside of hextech is you don't get to choose what you want, but you know that whatever you are getting is typically in the long run going to be value.

so THAT said, there is no reason to make it any easier to get anything. the system is fine. the only gripe I have is its super hard to get hextech annie and I'm going to go broke trying to get her. i never have any issue with essence.

Randomonium4 votes

Or Riot can just give people a way to convert IP into essence for those people who have bought everything they can with IP and still have 100K left over.

World Ender4 votes

That's much too high, but I agree that giving maybe 2-3 of each essence for first win would be good if you needed a few more essence for something.

Flemman4 votes

I thin a key frag for the first win of the week will be a beter option

dunkeroni3 votes

that's waaaayyy too much. Consider that on average you'll get a single chest per week.

Also you're not supposed to get all of the things out of the chests. You're supposed to make sacrifices to choose what you want.

La Barbotte3 votes

its already free stuff that we didnt have not so long ago and still not enough... give a hand they want the arm....

Umbra Z2 votes

Thats actually a great idea its like impossible to get it without rp otherwise

Dextix LT2 votes

Wrong, is is possible, even rather easy actually.

rtbf2256182412 votes

Based on luck but yeah i agree with ya. Essence drops are small but not too small.

Could get a Legendary skin in like 6 months if played regularily, even sooner if disenchant other skins for essence.

CornbreadAvenger2 votes

First win of the day might be too reliable of a method, even if it is a low amount. What about through random drops like key frags, or a chance to get some essence when crafting a key or opening a chest?

rtbf2256182412 votes

10 or 20 orange essence would be more appropriate.

BokuIsReal2 votes

Good idea but maybe less orange and blue so that way its fair

ahferroin72 votes

The orange I kind of agree with, the blue, not as much (maybe I'm a bit biased by having 6k and 7 champ shards, none of which I can use for anything because I have all the champs, I finally stopped disenchanting champs and I'm saving the shards for when Taliyah comes out to get her for free).

Zone of Endless2 votes

Nah. Riot is gonna put this in dynamic Q as premade prize to promote how good Dynamic Q is.

Fazuzu2 votes

yeah I noticed as a solo player the system is set up so that you rarely if ever win a chest. and as long as devs ignore solo players, there is no way in hellt hat I will ever buy one or spend any money on the game ever again. It is EXTREMELY unfair that if you pubstomp in a premade, only one guy needs to win a chest and the other 4 or 5 get one also. while the solo player has to compete with them for enough kills and as few deaths as possible (not easy when it feels like three teams int he match, you may as well not really care about it or expect to ever get a chest). don't think I wanna spend long on the game now that I picked it up again after osme of the things I have realized being back. on top of learning that I just missed urf mode by a hair, which for me would have been ten times more fun than rift or aram for now.

MikuTheWanderer 1 votes

Also, trading shards! That would be great. But probably like a max trading per day, like gifting

Meanie401 votes

I'd use that as a "higher level" engagement tool.

Perhaps getting five first wins in a seven day period to award 50 orange and 100 blue.

As a daily reward, that's way too much.
