I have been playing since Season two and what I can say is this: If you removed the damage on Janna's Q and W completely, her winrate would still be high. There is nothing you can really do to make her fundamentally weaker without actually removing some of the mechanics on her spells.

The additional number of actives in the game has just made her more versatile over the years. Janna can fulfill literally every support role. She can lock down. She can baby sity. She can trade. She can harass. She can help burst people. She can disengage. She can ENGAGE. She can COUNTRTengage. She can buff the carry. She can peel. She can save the carry. She can siege. She can kite. She can move the team around the map for roaming. She can keep enemies off objectives

She has pretty much no weakness other than there are some people who a specific job better or more easily (for the user and/or their teammates). It used to be that she had mana trouble. That's not the case with coin and the new mana regen mastery. She is technically squishy, but she moves so fast that she can dictate trades at an early level even with her abysmally low AA range.

She is a Swiss Army knife, and a damn good one. Yeah a dedicated can opener maybe better than the one from the knife, but if it holds 16 other tools, bringing a dedicated can opener isn't that smart unless only THAT can get the job done and to hell with everything else.

I think you're right.

She can harass, burst people, and lock down? Bitch what have you been smoking. Not to mention her only "engage" is basically reverse disengaging that puts her in danger and blows off her best peeling spell.

Shield self + AA is the most basic trade you must master when playing Janna at lvl 1. The ability to shield yourself and do that gives you more flexibility for harass instead of having to depend on your ADC to harass with you.

The second basic combo to master is harass with W when they go in to cs. In mid game, after you have a decent amount of AP, the slow from W becomes immense, allowing you to easily catch people in the jungle with W alone. If W is not enough, you are to use your superior MS to outmanuever your target and block of their escape with the path of your Q. The knockup and slow coupled with purple ghosties is usually enough to prevent people with dashes from escaping.

Her W is maxed second after E normally and has an insane amount of damage per rank. Coupled with a bit of damage from Q, it's a respectable amount of damage to stack on a target. She is not nearly as good at bust as Leona, Graves, or Annie but she does not tickle, especially if she has a bit of an exp lead.

It's very hard to make a play with her Q since it requires you to be at a superior position, but it's possible. You will usually be using actives and your passive to help actually get into position and then use Q to disrupt the enemy team.

Stopped reading at "burst people". IDK what kind of bronze level games this guy has been playing where a support Janna is bursting people down

Try to watch at least diamond game with Janna

stopped here

Janna is the most one-dimensional support ever after Leona probably, she can only and only disengage/peel, thefuck did you even smoke when saying she can ENGAGE?

and people actually upvoted you like holy shit guys are you all bronze?

What's really funny is that particular quote is also my response to you.

Yes all supports can build the same actives, but building RG and Shurima on Janna is a much more versatile support than RG and Shurima on Thresh. The best part of that example is that Thresh is the next best swiss army knife to Janna. If you were to use that example on say Annie, the contrast just becomes more stark.

Items are important when considering a champion's strengths since the same item does not interact with every champion of the same class identically.

But in any case, if you play Janna, you are expected to know how to catch people with Q and W and help lock them down. Janna is most definitely the queen of peel, disengage, and kiting, but if you think that's the only thing she's good at, you're simply deluding yourself. Let's go with the simplest example. Build captain + mobility on Janna. Your team is suddenly travelling around the map mid game 18% faster. That changes everything because now she doesn't need to Shurima as often (even though she can activate it to get to lane faster and have it be up when she reaches the tower) and can save it for more extreme circumstances.

Can any other support do that? Sure they can build captains + mobility and help with the engage, but that's only 10% more MS. That's not enough to be able to dial back on Shurima or RG as often. But 18%? Now you're starting to creep into that territory. That is just one example of how the multiple uses of her spells allow her to specialize her spells and remove some of the meaningful choices she has to make.

no one ever builds RG on Janna lol

and i don't get what you're saying about janna passive, i mean of course it gives MS, other champs have other passive that do something else, and really, no Janna is ever going to frontline boost everyone, it is used as disengage, and of course she makes people faster lol, mobility and peeling are her core design

Janna bursting people? You are like 2 years late with comments like that.

Vayne - high pick/win rate because of tank meta (both against tanks and with protection from ally tanks) Thresh - versatile, always high pick rate Janna - versatile, disengage good against tank meta

dEAdbUs1 votes

I think Vayne is strong because other ADCs are nerfed. Thresh and Janna are both too versatile and can play with any combination (and thats bad).

Hard4Hamsters1 votes

Janna probably should be nerfed in my opinion. Thresh is fine, just super versatile. And Vayne is okay, the meta just really favors her right now; that and Bork got buffed recently.

Janna's shield is really abusive in all stages of the game as it gives a really high amount of AD to an ADC without the need to buy any AP, at max rank it gives 50 AD which is a free BF sword, potentially very early in the game. Her ability to peel and disengage is unmatched in my opinion and she is pretty much the champion you think of when you hear "support". I think the AD on her shield should be reduced (possibly grant more scaling with AP) so you don't automatically win every trade in botlane unless you get completely caught out by the enemy Nautilus and eat all of his CC while getting punched in the face by Graves.

Thresh is fine but Janna isnt?!

Janna does one thing: she disengages. She's a specialist and there is nothing wrong with a specialist doing well in her specialty. Thresh can do that, plus engage, plus lock down, plus create amazing offensive plays with the lantern. He's a versatile champion that can match specialists in their respective specialties: THAT is not right.

Hard4Hamsters1 votes

Thresh isn't oppressive. He's just a good blind pick because he's pretty good at everything. I will say that Thresh was completely OP before his round of nerfs a while back, but he's just a safe pick as he does everything you would want a support to do. How would you nerf Thresh though? Just curious. I presented an argument for why I think Janna should be nerfed and gave an example of where I think she could be touched. I would like for you to do the same if you are going to argue how Thresh is nerf worthy. Because you sound like you are just QQing about Thresh having an overloaded kit (which he might have), but I don't think he is very oppressive right now. If anything, they could take away some of his damage and I still think he would have a high pick and success rate.

I understand that Janna is a specialist in disengage and I like that specialty or really any specialist in league, but I think she does too well in lane right now with her shield. Her ability to disengage isn't my problem with her, it's just her lane dominance.

Vayne is at a 50% winrate. That indicates a balanced champion lol. People make her out to be stronger than she actually is because they go full retard and feed her like no tomorrow
