Can we get harder punishment in higher elo?

dEAdbUs··60 votes·3,477 views

My brother in Diamond 3, and he got so many afk, surrenders and trolls, I can't believe. I think higher elo players should be an example for other players. Higher elo should means higher skill and higher responsibility.

Often when I meet diamonds in my normal games, they're flaming, trolling etc. Why they think if they're higher than the rest of players they can do whatever they want? It's like an adult shouldn't cross road on red light even if there is no cars, because kids will see it and will do same thing.

It's not necessary should be harder punishment, it can be just more attention to high elo players behaviour and lower threshold for acceptable toxicity level.

Why should high elo get harsher punishments compared to low elo? I think really the punishments should be harsher all around, it's just as unfair in bronze/silver as it is in plat/diamond.

I don't want anything unfair. I want make game better. Best players should be best not just because they have best mechanics, but because they have best behaviour too.

toxicity shouldn't be accepted anywhere no matter what rank (if any) your in.

i don't see the point in giving higher rank special attention

I completely agree with this, I was playing a game a couple days ago and someone invited a challenger player to come play a quick normal. Throughout the entire game he was flaming our entire team for playing badly, even though most of us were in low silver, and he knew it.

I was really surprised at this, and i expected better from someone ranked so high. Most of the people in challenger or master I look up to, and i don't think that a toxic player should be able to climb that high and become a role model for us lower rank scrubs.

If someone is toxic in higher elo they should definitely be punished more heavily

A lot of Diamonds are crybabies on an ego trip. Diamond 5 is a hell hole. Diamond 1 to Master also has the same problem that Diamond 5 has.

Masters are even more fragile than D5s, I've played against two in lane in my life and 1 ragequit after 4 deaths and the other just died once after that raged and tilted in a Tournament.

I heard someone say in a stream today that Diamond players are Bronze players with bigger Egos and better CS numbers. From I've seen, it's not far from the truth XD

I play in diamond and I meet many afk or feeders. I always thought high elo players fight for LP even if there is 5 20 team score but it's not so. In that situation many diamond players may go afk, rq or just stay on base blaming their team instead of doing picks and farming up to the late game. Surrender is also a big problem in diamond elo. In 99% situations i press NO because there is always a chance to win but sometimes my team didn't even try to do a single teamfight and just surrender... it's the most saddest thing in the world ='C. I really REALLY want those people to get their deserved punishment. I agree, the higher you play - the harder must be your punishment.

Spinning Axes9 votes

Just yesterday we had an outscaling comp, and I was a powerhouse on Azir. After losing a teamfight 5 for 3 and dragon (we got the dragon) my team decides to surrender because we "had no chance."

This is Diamond V and I get this on a repetitive basis. Not only are the people AFK'ing and refusing to play the game, but their negative attitude towards the game and the toxicity levels in higher elo is so much higher than any other elo I've been in.

AbodyHUN6663 votes

If it's true, would it actually be possible to advance in diamond just by not going afk or ragequitting? Just like in bronze? How the hell do people even get there with this attitude?

Anidan3 votes

Raw mechanics and actually giving a shit until they finally hit Diamond. After they hit that Diamond mark they stop giving a shit because at that point they hit the only goal they feel was necessary to meet.

I'm not kidding. There's some psychology behind it I'm sure, but that's the conclusion I've drawn after I've run into so many plat and diamond players. Besides, after that you hit a point where you finally get some community respect and aren't half-assedly shamed for your ranking when giving an opinion on anything, not that it's anywhere near as relevant as it was last year when Bronze-shaming was at its peak.

The amount of "lol low elo scrubs" in Diamond is so stupid. EVERYONE claims to be a smurf and makes fun of people in Diamond for being "bad" for not being able to climb to Challenger.

BeatzBoyFTW7 votes

I had multiple Normal Blind Picks with Plats/Diamonds in my game, and whenever I make a single ping or other awareness chat, their first response is:

"Stfu bronzie, im plat!"

And then most of the time they don't give a fk about the match and do w/e they want, like afk jungle farm or only last hitting enemies in teamfights. And again, they use the "im plat, ur bronze!" excuse as if it's a jail-free card.

I wish that Riot would consider this punishment over suspension/ban, as this does not seems too convincing for them:

Whenever a Plat or higher starts bragging & trolling like I mentioned here, they will get their LP deducted by 60, or drop 1 division down, depending on the level of bragging they're doing.

Sammystorm2 votes

I would rather the player to just be gone. Some people would troll to drop their elo.

Playing with teammates who are worse than you can be extremely rage inducing.

  1. They constantly make stupid mistakes that you keep warning them about but they don't listen
  2. The enemy team realizes you're the only hope for your team so they focus you nonstop the whole match, this results in you getting a lot of deaths... which leads to...
  3. The same worse teammates will then complain about how badly you're doing, even though it's the direct result of them being so bad that the enemy isn't even concerned with them and instead focuses 100% on you

Trust me, I've been on both sides, so I'm not just complaining here. If I see one good person on the enemy team, they are getting focused down first in fights. I'm less concerned about the rest of their team who is doing nothing to me.

So yeah, bad teammates + them blaming YOU + enemy team focusing you = rage inducing and causes a lot of toxicity.

It's hard to keep my cool when I have 4 bumbling idiots for teammates who don't know how to play, and they are all telling me that I don't know how to play because their too bad at the game to realize they are wrong.

Ah well. :P

...no? Equality, yo. Every player is treated the same, regardless of skill level. If you misbehave consistently, you're punished. Higher elo players shouldn't be punished MORE harshly. Really, that'd just encourage dropping to the depths of bronze and trolling.

Every player SHOULD be treated the same. No "lower threshholds" or anything. Every player should be identical, else you're throwing preferential biases into an imitation legal system.

Diamond players don't treat bronze players the same. Is that equality?

My idea is: "Want to reach higher elo? Practice your skills and manners".

I think it's a good goal, in some countries people with high incomes pay more taxes.

Sozan53 votes

I cannot agree. The punishment shouldn't be any different depening on the rank.

However, I believe that the punishment in general should be harder to avoid - it could be even lighter, but if you know you are gonna get punished - you are gonna think twice. Also, it should be aimed better - right now there are few types of punishment (chat restriction, ranked restriction, ban), but they are not aimed at the correct groups. For example right now ranked restriction is just an upgraded version of chat restriction aimed only on flamers. On the other hand, the leavers have only one possible punishment, which is timed/permament ban (even though giving leavers the ranked restriction would make sense).

I think the punishment should be more common, although with varying levels of severity... For example:

Leaving/Intentionally Feeding/Assisting Enemy Team: Level 1: Warning Level 2: Ranked restriction for 3 games (but without the chat restriction - this applies to all ranked restriction) Level 3: Ranked restriction for 20 games Level 4: 3 days ban + Ranked restriction for 30 games Level 5: 14 days ban + Ranked restriction for 50 games Level 6: Ranked restriction till the end of the season Level 7: Permament ban

Offensive Language/Verbal Abuse: Level 1: Warning Level 2: Weak chat restriction for 5 games (you can still talk to all, but your messages are a bit limited (let's say 5 messages, but new ones recover twice as fast as normal chat restriction)) Level 3: Chat restriction for 30+ games Level 4: 3 days ban + Ranked restriction for 15 games, and chat restriction for 30+ Level 5: 14 days ban + Ranked restriction for 30 games and chat restriction for 45+ Level 6: Permament ban

Negative attitude: Level 1: Warning Level 2: Inability to call a surrender vote and you automatically vote no on them + Weak chat restriction for 5 games Level 3+: just as in Offensive Language/Verbal Abuse

Now, the** important part **would be - getting level 2 punishment shouldn't be hard. Like... Leaving two games in a row should immidiately give you Level 2 punishment, and so would leaving 3 games out of the last 30. Mind you that punishment for level 2 is usually rather low, so it doesn't hit hard - but it sure as hell should hit often.

Obviously, if someone both leaves and flames then he gets both punishments at once.

Also, in this case - the rewards for good behaviour (like the baron icon or the mystery gift) should still be applied to summoners with a single level 2 punishment (if you got multiple or higher level one then they shouldn't be rewarded at all).

For leaving I dont think there should be a warning but straight to ranked restriction 3 game. people should already know and if not riot should make sure they know that leaving and trolling etc. is unacceptable and is punishable.

Sozan53 votes

Yeah, but you know that there are situations that you cannot predict nor you have any control over.

H0riz0n2341 votes

Ok I could see how that would be a problem. ok warning then 3 ranked game restriction.

RUNAAANS HYDRAA2 votes

I really like your system. ESPECIALLY the Neg Attitude section, specifically lvl2.

dEAdbUs2 votes

Totally agree, I love level 2 too!

Sozan51 votes

Thanks! I felt like I had to put it there :P

Sammystorm1 votes

Completely depends on what you think entitles a "level 3". How fast it decays. Things like that.

Sozan51 votes

Well, this would depend on Riot obviously, as I don't have any real data on the player behaviours. The exact values for those levels would have to be done by Riot, but I'd prefer for level 2 to be easily gotten and level 3 to be significantly harded (so only if you countinue to be toxic (either by flaming or by leaving games etc) after you already were punished).

dEAdbUs2 votes

In some countries people with high incomes pay more taxes. My idea is: "Want to reach higher elo? Practice your skills and manners".

Sozan51 votes

I cannot agree with that. I believe that every regular League player should be having the same punishments (maybe with exception for pros, as they represent League and its community to a much broader audience) for the same offense (which should be more common than currently, rather than more harsh).

why not do it for everyone else? why only for them? that's why its a stupid idea. idc if you're bronze or diamond, if you deserve to get ban you deserve to get ban

dEAdbUs1 votes

It's easier to change small group, and this small group will be an example for everybody else. Especially if everybody else wants to be part of this group. "Want to reach higher elo? Practice your skills and manners".

And I think punishment for lower elo is more than enough (I have 35 ranked games restrictions now, and this is A LOT).

TwoD1 votes

Yes you deserve that punishment as much as you deserve this kind of punishment

prom to master not difference from prom to silver. tilted back to dimdon after that but is in prom to diamond 1 know... but elo hell is in all elos there is ont much difference when it comes to flame, afk and stuff in different elos. i had a game where i dc start of the game and come to lane at 2:20 and i was lie 25 cs down and never died at 9 min. so i was fine. but that gnar top was feeding a mao top and died all solo all three times and flamed me all the time for losing the game when he just failed. then he dies on more time and rq. soon after stupdi fail rengar jungle fail and rq so we have two rg:er in a game we could have won. just so sad.¨

or won game when we only had lost 2 tower but lost a team fight and they some start a surrender and they all 4 press yes but me. i even asked the one how voted why he surrender and he said i only pressed surrender in rage and did not thought we would surrender but we did just cause op rage kids.

Come down to Bronze! The water's fine! And slightly salty...

I recently had a 'normal' game where my team was composed of Bronze and Silvers while the enemy team was composed of Diamond 5 and Platinum 1 players. Never have I ever met a group of people so incredibly angry/toxic/flaming/evil. Yes, they were good at the game, but damn did they have anger issues...

Not sure why it gets taken out on us, but whatever.

Can we just agree that toxicity exists at ALL elo's, and that hopefully The Triumphant Return of The Tribunal (with people like the op, and myself (a self-described Anti-Toxin) serving on it) will help alleviate the suffering, BUT BUT can we also agree that POSITIVITY exists at all elo's as well?!

The fear of people being difficult was what kept me away from online games altogether, but now I am so grateful I've "felt the fear and done it anyway". I hope that I can reallllly give back and help to be a force for good in this community. All we have to do is make it "cool" to be mature, responsible and just generally well-behaved, and I think the Reward system that Riot is working on will help with that. Maybe SPECIFIC skins for those that continually work to uphold The Code and police the community. The crests for good behaviour are great, but just dont have much of an impact as far as I can tell. Also, it would be pretty awesome if we had some NEGATIVE BEHAVIOUR crests or something of the like MARKING THOSE THAT CONSISTENTLY BREAK THE CODE.

People need to be genuinely AFRAID of engaging in toxic behavious, if not because of consequences or public humiliation, but because hurting others only hurts yourself. What this game (heck the whole species lol) needs is friggin' full-blown consciousness-shift where we all achieve something akin to Christ Consciousness.

Kingdom Hearts1 votes

They're not Gods of League of Legends, get a hold of yourself mate. People that make it to diamond, i can say one thing about them; they're great League of Legends players, however, I cannot tell you how mature or serious they take the game.

This game is made for F-U-N, they do whatever they like to have fun. Being good, doesn't mean being a good role model, take for example OJ.

Shroom Junkie1 votes

But think about this: If that Diamond player got to Diamond by trolling and afk'ing and flaming, what do you think it will tell lower elo? It will tell them "hey if I do this to get what I want I can still climb" But if Diamond players don't do that then its telling them that they can't climb without maturing, and might stop them from flaming, afk'ing, etc.
