When worlds is done, either nerf items or nerf kits, but don't do both.
And so begins the sad story of
in the LCS (and many other juggernauts like
who never even got a chance even at their absolute prime right after the juggernaut update to be in the LCS).
Patch 5.20: Decimate Blade width reduced to 220 from 270. Apprehend Slow reduced to 40% from 90%
Ok fair enough, the apprehend needed a nerf badly, but the decimate nerf was probably a little overkill. Whatever, he's in a relatively healthy state in soloQ, but the real issue is that he went from powerpick in the LCS to worthless troll pick in the LCS. Why? Well, these kit nerfs were compounded with consistent nerfs to juggernaut items to put
in his current state in pro-play, that is, completely fucking worthless.
(perhaps the archetypal Juggernaut item): Patch 6.9 AD reduced by 5, cheaper cost (most juggernaut players would prefer a more expensive but more effective cleaver)
(released the same time as juggernauts, this is another iconic juggernaut item): Patch 6.4 Health reduced from 500 to 400
(brought to summoner's rift the same time juggies were created, this thing has been absolutely abused to become something straight up inferior to
in most cases, even on juggernauts): Patch 5.16 Armor reduced by 5, Patch 5.22 cost increased by 50 gold, patch 5.24 health reduced by 100, patch 6.3 crushing blow slow reduced by 25% and total cost increased by another 100 gold
The only people that complain about
after all these nerfs are low elo, as people in high elo and pro play have learned to abuse him even where he is supposed to be strong (melee range). And I mean absolutely 100% ABUSE. The thing I want to convey here is that once worlds is over and the dust settles, when balancing, please nerf either a broken champion's items or that champion's kit, and wait, and I mean WAIT, before you start nerfing both the kit and the items, because nerfing both at the same time is a very fast way to make a champion go from one side of the spectrum to the other.
For those who complain about
his total LCS presence in the year of 2016 is one loss in the summer split LPL.
TL;DR nerf a kit or the items, but dont nerf both at relatively the same time, you'll end up with broken champions becoming worthless in higher levels of play (which is where balance is centered around).
People complain about stale metas in the LCS, well, being more moderate with nerfs (and conversely, with buffs to kits and items) after problems are discovered is a good way to try and break metas and introduce more diversity. Think of it like using the scientific method, you're supposed to change only one variable at a time, when you change numerous variables, you either lose track of the goal and end up way off from what you desired or simply confused (occasionally both).
