Diver Class Update (Potential Ideas)

My thoughts on who are viable candidates for the diver class update and how each champion should be changed. Feel free to post your own ideas as well.

Rek'sai won't be as she's getting a mini rework fairly soon.

Irelia, Pantheon, and Xin Zhao are tier 1 for VGUs so they most likely won't be included

I feel out of the champions that are here: Aatrox, Nocturne, Diana will be part of it. Aatrox's recent update has been looked at as pretty bad, and Riot said it still needs work so that's why I still say he could be part of it.

Why isn't Nocturne higher on a VGU?

Wait I guess it's because there's nothing really so wrong with him except him being fairly generic by today's standards.

He's not really that bad visually, other than needing some work on his Tail tech, but gameplay could definitely use some work.

Aatrox's update was horrendous at first, but after a couple of patches of buffs for him, he's actually in a very decent spot now. I honestly almost feel like he doesn't need too much work in the Diver update. If you know what you're doing, Aatrox can actually be very strong.

(Plus he's a hidden counter to Yasuo so yeah)

Diana is a likely candidate for a diver update champion and it would be great to address the problem with AP itemization diversity.

As for Irelia, honestly I just think she's unfair to fight against. Say what you want about Camille, but she doesn't punish you for winning a trade.

Considering that the Diver update is going to focus on that need a little bit of help, we can pretty much knock off any on the list who should be getting full VGU's.

Whether Rek'sai is or isn't going to be on that list, is going to be dependent on how much work is actually needed. If it can be done without needed art assets, they could do a mini update similar to what they did with Aatrox.

I disagree with the notion of changing itemization just for Diana. Aside from the fact that Putting better stats/abilities behind a (melee only) tag is something unlikely for Riot to do, They probably wouldn't screw with the itemization too much, unless they needed to support more than just Diana as a Diver. Yet the only other AP Diver would be Elise. Though such items would allow other AP Assassin, (Ekko, Fizz) to build more Bruiser, yet it seems everyone just complains about it when they do.

I'm more curious about Xin zhao, and Nocturn, because they are fairly AA focused. They are practically Skirmisher/Diver hybrids. The fact that 2 of Xin's abilties are AA steroids, suggests a skirmisher's playstyle. If they do get reworked, will they remain that hybrid who can benefit from skimisher items? Or would you move them away from that style of play.

One last note, Regardless of who gets rework, I predict the Jungle meta getting shaken up. Because of their dueling power, giving them reletively fast and safe clear speed, combined with their Engage and single target lock down. I feel like Divers are buy and large, make the best Junglers, and most of the divers on that list, are or have been Junglers.

I just hope they don't give some super gimmicky changes to Wukongs decoy..

I think if we are going to get a Diver update, the main champions will be:

Aatrox Aatrox Diana Diana LeeSin Lee Sin and maybe Nocturne Nocturne

These are all champions who could use some small updates, but not complete VGUs. There are other Divers, but they need more work (see Pantheon for example). Other champions would likely get changes through items and such. Also, it would be a nice opportunity to update Nocturne's model a bit. Also, we could change Lee Sin a bit to make him better for the community to experience in-game.

Re: your Enchanter Video:

  • Janna only slow herself, not her whole team, when she uses her W. The team passive is on her Innate, not on her W.
  • Karma: you didn't mention at all the massive heal on R+W, which is especially good to bait enemies to over-commit when they can't actually kill you.
  • Soraka: more than being a Root, her E is a zoning tool. You can put it under your carries feet to prevent an Assassin to jump on them and combo them (Silence OP), you can put it on the shortest path of the Jungler coming to gank you and force him to make a detour (or being Rooted), etc. A good E is often not the E rooting an enemy, but the E that the enemies don't even go near.

Sona: I do play Sona a lot, at a mid-high Gold MMR, so she gets a special paragraph just for her. Saying that Sona breaks the CDR cap is technically misleading. Her R passive gives her base CDR, which applies separately from the standard CDR on items, and is not concerned by the CDR cap at all. I also strongly disagree with the Lichbane build: it's a cheese build that will make you lose in late game if you don't heavily snowball before 20 minutes, and by heavily, I mean something like 10+ kills on your ADC, like, really hard snowball. You also didn't mention her R active at all, which is a bit odd: it's her only hard CC (a big difference with all other Enchanters, who all have hard CC on a basic ability, except Karma) and a critical point of mastery. Deciding between a risky (because it's a medium range skill-shot with cast time PLUS travel time) Flash+R engage on 4 enemies or keeping your ult in reserve to peel for your carries can make or break a team-fight. For Skill Order, I'll max Q if I can get away with it, certainly, but more often than not you're forced into maxing W first, especially when playing against hard engage match-ups like Thresh/Blitz/Leona/Brand/Zyra/etc. I like a lot going Q/W/W/Q/E/R, and decide only at this point what I should max (but it's probably too deep for a Beginner's video). Important point is: maxing W first is quite common. Regarding builds in general, I disagree with Eye of the Oasis as "core", since you typically won't merge your GP10 and Sightstone before you need the inventory slot, because you want your Idol items and Mana Regen ASAP. Typical build is: item 3098 item 3114 item 2049 in that order, and then item 3504 item 3174 item 3107 in no special order, varies game by game. Situational are item 3222 (CC), item 3190 (Burst), item 3110 (AS-based), and item 2301 / (item 2045 + item 3092) (if you've got the slots for it), or even a real Tank item if you get properly focused. Boots are super flexible, but I'm not a fan of Sorc Shoes, just like Lichbane it's only really useful if you snowball. Mobi, Swifties or Lucidity all offer more valuable stats, and again, Tank boots are not a bad idea, since you don't absolutely need the stats on other boots and they're very cost efficient to pad your very low base stats. You often overcap on CDR, and I'm super excited for the new Overcharged Rune that was previewed recently for Runes Reforged. As for now, despite the overcap, I think this is still the most efficient build.
