The problem isn't assassin's. It's itemization
All I hear lately is "Counterplay blah blah blah." "X assassin is OP". "X is too strong".
But when I look at the items and the assassin weakness, there is nothing to deal with it. Mana regen is horrible right now, only people with mana are those building base mana in their build or have innate mana sustain. On top of this armor pen still trumps armor and stacks (IDK why you can build something more gold efficient than 2 items and stack it). Plus, the items that are meant to counter assassin's don't work.
- I'm going to respawn and die instantly to them and it doesn't even reduce damage because they have armor pen/magic pen that is way more gold efficient than this.
- only works on highly projected champs where you can react. If its too fast you are dead or going into Zhonya's to stall your death.
- even more situational than Zhonya's and GA. Rarely ever actually does anything against the current meta (does nothing to knock ups and doesn't even provide 100% tenacity for a bit after it).
Honestly how do you fight Assassins when their weakness is sustain but there is nothing to outsustain them. GA is an anti single burst item that doesn't resurect you with enough hp to live after you revive. Zhonya's is only good in certain scenarios if you see them coming and can react. Merc scimitar is to drop CC which is kind of a general use. The Athene's grail is still worse than a morello for sustain (for the love of god up the mana regen to 100%). Hell or give it an active that restores mana. SOMETHING.
I really can't say anything about the balance of this game right now as long as itemization is still terrible. We have no selection or the selection we have is so bad its laughable but you have to build it anyways.
How to fix
: Basically it acts like Tryndamere's ult on a lower time span and automatic. At the end of the current proc time (4s) you receive 35% your hp back (not effected by grievous) and 50% of your mana but you are not allowed to attack or cast and and have 100% tenacity for the duration of the proc.
