Is it just me or does dorans blade seem to be the weakest dorans item?

I play a lot of Yasuo(don't judge me ok). And it seems like dorans shield yasuo has more sustain.

Edit: I'll elaborate more on this. So taking item 1054. Ok so I build it to take damage while being able to passively heal. So let's do some math here With masteries and item 1054 I 4.7 hp or whatever every tick. If I get attacked it goes up to like 7.5 or something like that every tick. 3% of like 65 is like 2 per auto attack.

Dorans blade has been mediocre for long a while, but has been shrouded by the fact ranged AD are strong champions in lane. But now we gave DShield some on-hit damage and we end up with scenarios like this.

The "lethalness" lost by going shield is pretty small compared to the immense safety and trading power shield provides. Unless you know you're playing against lower skilled opponents for the small potential of a surprise kill you might not have gotten the items do not compare.

Melee are hard pressed to go blade in lane unless the guy is like Renekton. The sheer fact you are gonna lose for sitting back with that item communicates "I'm easy ganks"

I haven't a clue why preseason six that started destroying the game they gave many ranged ad +5 starting ad along the new mastery system

I believe the item is kept on the weak side so adc in particular are not encouraged to stack them and snowball in a tankish way. Atm it's usually seen as a waste of gold. And not all that strong. Because it is a waste of gold on average stats.

What to do...

The slow attack speed seems to bottleneck that early dorans blade.

Well, it depends. Doran's Shield is typically better on Yasuo because his early game isn't that great, and he tends to get harassed a lot, which the Doran's Shield helps counter. Over all though, I personally do agree with you when you say that the Doran's Blade is just flat out underwhelming. With that said, it would be nice if Riot gave it like, 1% more lifesteal. Either that or it can have a new passive that heals a champion based on their missing health up to a cap, while giving it a 20 second cooldown or something like that.

for start i don't agree about yasuo being the victime before first back... but anyway, move on. Even agressive top laner take doran shield over the blade (Darius, Renekton...).

Most of the time I just see people start item 1054 then first back pick up item 1055 + whatever component items they can afford. There will always be some form of Doran's Item stacking because it helps overcome early weaknesses but at least we're gotting to the point where they get some combination of Doran's/starting items instead of stacking multiple shields/blades/rings.

If you are in a rough early matchup, you are only going to be harasses with random poke and not much burst, doran shield is better. If you have a winning early game matchup and/or you think you have legit kill potential in lane, you take doran blade. It gives less sustain because it requires you to attack a champ or minion while doran shield heals you even when you aren't attacking anything. But you make a tradeoff because you have less ad for farming and trading damage.

If you have kill potential you might as well take long sword or cull to snowball harder.

In SOME scenarios yes. In others no. Suppose you need the lifesteal. Suppose the enemy has some good burst and you need that extra hp to survive their burst if the enemy jungler early ganks you. Cull and longsword don't offer this. Cull is a good 2nd buy if you want to go that route, but can be abused too easily in most situations as a first buy - unless you are smurfing in a much lower elo than you belong. Longsword I would only recommend if you have a winning lane AND your champ has some built in sustain.

But then that wouldn't be a lane you're going to automatically win now would if? In that case you're better off buying doran's shield.

As for the longsword route? People seem to forget that that means you start with 3 pots.

Let me give an example from my main role: toplane. With 0 real items, j4 actually bullies renekton - as does shen. For j4 it's because of grasp plus longer ranged harass at level 1 which includes serious free armor pen. Your trades aren't long enough to make good use of fervor and grasp just beats it that early in the game. Yet very clearly, Renekton wins the lane unless serious mistakes or jungle intervention in favor of j4 occurs. So renekton takes doran shield in most cases. But if confident, can do doran blade to try for an early kill. If he knows the enemy jungler is unlikely to early gank (like while he's still level 2 or 3) or knows his jungler plans to gank/counter-gank at level 2/3, he can go doran blade and turn out ok. This gives him the extra early ad to grab a kill where he might otherwise not get one. In exchange for that kill potential, he does put himself at greater risk of getting pushed out of lane earlier than he wants to.

Shield is still the worst.

I think it depends really. Dorans shield+Garen = never die because garens passive.

Dorans shield+ my favorite mid laner Yasuo= never die because his passive and Dorans passive.

The only other dorans item I build is item 1056 for mages.

Even melee champs that use mana I build item 1054 because I can farm and take some poke from the enemy which is more punishing for them because they are just waisting mana on me while I farm. For example if I take item 1054 on Nasus and the enemy has let's say Jayce. Cool he pokes me down quite a bit until his mana runs out and I'm still just doing my farming thing because he's got to run out of mana sooner or later and on my backs I'll just build item 3047 depending on the enemy team and lifesteal off minions with nasus passive.

And even though we both use mana I can still just auto attack those minions.

Doran's Shield has no synergy with Garen's innate (other than the 80 health), Yasuo's innate, or anything Nasus has (other than that 5 extra damage interacting with his life steal). For Garen and Nasus, Cloth + 4 would be much stronger. For Yasuo, Shield is better than Blade if he is unable to ever attack, but at that point, he's fucked either way and I'd have to question why he is in that match-up.

You must not play the actual game than. Dorans shield yasuo is how I got mastery 7 on him.
