Why do people think it's cute to say gg ez at the very end?

AR URF··139 votes·13,279 views

I'm talking like 3 seconds before the victory/defeat screen appears.

Edit: I can see that this thread has caused a lot of controversy and it's nice that at least 70% of you agree with me. Also I can see a lot of straw man arguments being made. I guess it's to be expected because a lot people don't know how to argue and stay on topic.

Edit: Guys I'm not offended. I'm just going to the source. The league forums are full of toxic players and getting your opinions on the forums is a good place. Am I offended? No. Am I annoyed? Yes.

Because their ego fills when they can insult others but they are coward enough not to do it unless they have a big chance not to be seen.

I usually say it if I get camped, but still won. The enemy was emote spamming in the game, etc.

Stars Shaper5 votes

It's something really out of my cords. If I had such a douchebag enemy I'd just make his life miserable in teamfights or whenever he gets vulnerable.

I tilted several Zeds after I got my powerspike on Aurelion Sol :P

Was playing kayn top yesterday against heimerdinger (small hint: heimer is a cancer champ to melees like teemo*100) and died two times to him while the rest of the team did rather bad. He kept spamming laugh, mastery emote etc. I was farming jungle camps to get some gold and XP back and some time later heimer wrote: "Hello? Missing persons? Where is kayn? He is missing for quite some time" I just /muteall and tried to get some pressure on sidelanes while my team came back eventually we DID win this game after 50 mins of misery and pain and i was about to write "gg ez" but then i thought to myself that i am better than that and just wrote "hello? heimer? where did your lp go?"

It's even worse when people just blatantly say shit like EZ PZ when the game went past 40 minutes lol. It's always the people getting carried that say shit like EZ PZ or GG EZ to.

I had one of the longest games of the season this week. It was like 62 minutes of total game time and the person was like "gg ez" I told them "easy games don't take an hour to win" and he was like "lol GG EZ" "GG EZ" "GG EZ" "U MAD?"

When I get a 50+ minute matches the usual reaction is "ez" when it ends.

From both team.

I made this discussion mostly out of boredom tbh. Anyway try not to insult others for asking for others opinions. It's constructing for a toxic community and all of us can relate.

OyddAWqJ5r11 votes

Woah there buddy that gg ez really tilted ya huh? Cuz if you read that reply in a non-tilted way you'd see it carries no ill will.

I report every time someone says gg ez though, it's very unsportsmanlike.

MrHaZeYo27 votes

I wasn't flaming you lol. Simply saying, they say it to get a rise out of people, whether they get to see the rise or not is irrelevant, but a bonus if they do.

Then by making a topic like this, we see that someone got a rise out of you.

I was playing a game last night, they pushed our base, and had our nexus under a quarter. "GG EZ" said their Annie, who had more than double their deaths compared to kills. We respawned. Killed them. Pushed them back. Killed Teemo (repeatedly) whose sole priority was attempting to stay invis and make a dash for our nexus. Won 3 team fights. Then we took their nexus. Guess who said "gg ez" after that? None of them, that's for sure. They left the game and the after lobby without a single word.

They are so insecure that they have to rub it in others' faces whenever they win. Don't let it get to you because if you quickly browse through their match history, you will see that they have had games where they got stomped by another team. It is just a big pointer saying, "I need attention because I'm insecure about my skill, so I have to reassure myself and everyone else that I am indeed a good player when in reality I am not."

PMMeYordleThighs11 votes

The reason people dislike GGEZ is because you can't get back at them for it most the time. If an enemy player is being a toxic POS during mid game, you can apply a 'talk shit, get hit' rule, and generally get back at them. Meanwhile they know they can go 'LOL GGEZ' post game because hey, the enemy team can no longer kick my ass for this!

Save the BM'ing for mid game when you can get your shit pushed in for it, if you just GOTTA BM. Otherwise you just make yourself look cheap and scared of the slap back. [slayer-jinx-wink]

Davaken10 votes

It's a form of ironic bm. 45+ min super close game? Write "gg ez" to show the enemy that you definitely, without a doubt, had everything under control at all points in the game.

The only I remember doing it, was when I played full ap Bard mid, trolled around whole game and ended up 12/5 or something. It's very unsportsmanlike to do, and it really tilts some people while other people (like me) aren't affected by it at all.

I don't think you should write it. I believe Riot has said before that it is a reportable offense before.

What I don't get about it, is how seriously people take it. Yeah, sure it's bm, but so is constantly flashing your mastery emote, or spamming laughing emotes etc. Why is it that people dislike this one so much in particular?

LA Losty3 votes

I dont think many people like any of those things. But the gg ez part is probably worse as they are really rubbing it in just as they win the game, where as emote spamming/laughing is just an annoyance during the match.

TNHA Baritone3 votes

I agree. It's also rather disgusting for people to lose with grace and acceptance, but have the enemy be cocky. The best experiences come from when one team accepts their loss, and the other team wins with humility.

PePsiLemoNN10 votes

Nobody is trying to be ''cute'' when saying ggez lmao

Armored Yokai9 votes

Because it makes them feel good that they are "better" and they want to rub it in the opponents face just to tilt them.

Yeah I see what you're saying here and I usually don't reply to such toxicity unless the game has been over 40 minutes when they typed that. I know they're trying to get a rise out of people, but I play this game a lot. It's like my only game next to a game called warframe that I play and when I see this shit like every round it's dumb.

Salson4 votes

Well then Report button is your friend.

The way report system seems to works is consistent reports. So if they have 2-3 GGEZ games, and one really toxic game, the ban goes through.

Because they know it makes you upset. That's their goal, so don't let them do it.

Livid Biscuit5 votes

It's considered poor sportsmanship to say "ggez". It's basically the league equivalent of someone calling the entire other team "trash" and saying it took little effort to beat you and your team. Imagine if this happened in regular sports, where even if the game was actually "easy", they still are at least respectful of their opponents.

The same should apply to league, regardless of being an online game. People play it semi-seriously, and when your opponents type "ggez", it's straight up insulting to you and your team.

I don't understand what's so hard to understand about this. Riot even outright states that it's against their terms and conditions, and that it's unsportsmanlike conduct.

Honestly, I just report every single player who types it in all chat, whether they're on my team or not. It shouldn't be tolerated, period.

Sckullzz5 votes

It'a just straight up immature and uncalled for. There is zero point in being an ass when you win or lose a game. Someone once try to tell me it was sarcasm and I didn't understand it LOL Saying gg ez is not sarcasm, it's being a childish asshole.

forist4 votes

Putting the player's intentions aside, I'm sure at some point its become just a habit for some players. I wouldn't put too much thought into it tbh, its just 4 tiny letters in the bottom left corner of your screen.

Krigjer4 votes

Putting the player's intentions aside, I'm sure at some point its become just a habit for some players.

For something to become habit, you have to consciously perform the action often enough in the first place.

The intent was there from the beginning. It being a habit at this point doesn't excuse it.

Stick In Mudd4 votes

It is tilting for this to happen, simply because it takes a lot of time to play this game.

This game takes a lot of investment of one's precious time to play, and for someone wanting to climb, wanting to get gold before the end of the season (or whatever elo), that after a 40 - 50 minute game that you end up losing because two of your teammates got caught out in the most dumb way possible; it's entirely reasonable for someone to be frustrated. And then for someone to smugly write "GG EZ", makes it even worse. Because, yes, it was EZ for them to win, getting a lucky pick of better teammates.

Now your time was wasted, and you have to actually spend MORE time just to gain back the lost elo.

The Whamboozler4 votes

Because the game is ultimately a pointless waste of time and the only joy some people can take from it is talking trash to inflate their fragile egos?

Teridax684 votes

Hi! This is a good point, but would also be more appropriate for Player Behavior, rather than Gameplay, as this sub-board is for balance, design and strats. Because of this, I'll have to delete this thread in a little while. You're not in trouble, though! I encourage you to continue this discussion on PB, as even though this is an oft-repeated discussion, it does have the potential to help players understand where others are coming from in in-game scenarios like these.

Not xPeke2 votes

Not really on topic but I'd like to say that I fully agree with you that the league boards are actually full of toxic players.

The irony in this is that most of the toxicity is actually witnessed by players bashing on banned players in the 'player behaviour' section. No, I'm not banned or anything. It just makes me sick to witness the wannabe white knights that don't realise that if they spoke the same way in game as they do on the boards, basically laughing and gloating at the punished players while display such condescending attitude, they would be deemed toxic and banned from the game.

HalcyonDweller4 votes

With you there. A lot of people come to the boards just to stroke our own egos, for better or for worse.

Some of us have morals that we follow on what not to do while doing so. Others are uncivilized swine.

Sad day when even saying "GG" at the end of a match is now considered toxic...

GG is not toxic. It means GOOD GAME.

GG EZ is used to demoralize your opponent because you either THINK you stomped them or you actually beat them in a landslide. It's now intentionally used to get people riled up.

in their own short-bus queues

Your post is quite informative.

I know what GG EZ is used for, and it's harmless banter.
There are also people who get offended by "GG" and the "DEFEAT" popup at the end of a match. They'll reply with "dont u dare say gg! it was bg! look at this master yi 2/7 9x report pls!!" I'm fed up with the complaining. Just disable your own chat or stick to singleplayer games if your internal filter doesn't work. PS. I only mention short-buses because I know it will offend the type supporting this thread.

You are... this is funny as fuck... You are "fed up with the complaining."

You know why thats funny?

Some people dont like others saying "gg ez" and think its toxic.

You dont like people complaining about it....

So here you are on the forums complaining about other peoples complaining..............................................................

I mean DO I HAVE TO SAY ANYTHING ELSE!?

So ugh, maybe if they can disable their chat... maybe you can just block the forums page in your browser... take your own advice if you dont want to see people complain.
