Exhaust is become a better and more picked alternative to Ignite, and tbh, it needs a nerf.

Exhaust is an automatic remove the selected champion from the team fight for 2 seconds.

Got fed in your lane? Shit out of luck because the enemy mid and support both have exhaust to chain exhaust you for 4 seconds, and your 8 kill advantage is next to useless.

I don't mind having exhaust in the game, but this vanilla spell does need to be reworked.

Maybe it's a byproduct of damage being out of control

nobody really needs ignite anymore to oneshot people

exhaust on the other hand helps prevent one shots

doiminat0r36006 votes

Not to mention that neither have been touched but all of a sudden "EXAUST TOO OP"

Salron4 votes

It's not all of a sudden People have been calling exhaust overpowered for quite some time

Sire Hippington1 votes

still, ehaust and ginite are about the same since S4, the comlaints started rather recently. Exhaust mostly became op because of other changes, makeing the damage reduction more important aswell as causeing the 2.5 sec slow+res shred to be leathal in many situations. With less overall damage, the damagre reduction wouldn't be as crittical and the victims would have a chance to survive the 2.5sec and simply hold down their combo till exhaust runs out.

doiminat0r36001 votes

But people have also never complained about it in this quantity. This is the first time anything like this has happened.

"This summoner spells needs nerfed because it's picked over ignite."

Wut.

Maybe, and here me out on this one, just maaaybe people are running exhaust because of how strong some assassins like Kha and Rengar are right now. And because of how much damage has been added to everything. But who knows, maybe it's none of that and maybe and unchanged exhaust just now became OP and needs nerfed.

The reason Exhaust hasn't been complained about before (to this extent) is because it hasn't become mainstream for most solo-laners up until recently.

Exhaust actually did get a major change; a reduction of 10 armor/mr is a giant buff in the early game, especially since they barely tweaked the damage reduction and slow.

But, because it took place during the League of Map Presence, it wasn't pushed into the spotlight.

The idea throughout season 5 and 6 was:

"If you're Top Lane, and not playing PantheonRengar, you take summoner 12."

and

"If you're Mid Lane, and not playing an Assassin, you take summoner 12."

After Teleport got nerfed, people started looking for substitutes.

Once they realized that Exhaust could function as both Barrier and Ignite, since it could provide both safety and kill pressure within a single summoner spell, it quickly became picked over the alternatives.

The only reason it was buffed before was because Supports were taking Ignite more often. I highly doubt Riot intended on making it the optimal choice for solo laners.

Exhaust is the only spell in the game that has a defensive and offensive purpose. Every combat summoner is either offensive or defensive but, exhaust is the only spell that retains its value whether you are ahead or not.

I'm pretty sure flash, barrier, cleanse, and probably more can be used both offensively and defensively.

EDIT: Also ghost

Heal is an offensive spell, fucking too scared of fighting withou it on adc

48983507DEL11 votes

Barrier isn't used offensively in any regard. Even using it to tank a turret shot is still using it as defensive protection.

Cleanse is the same deal. You can use it to aid an offensive maneuver, but ultimately it's purpose is to PROTECT you from something.

Flash I can understand, but it also doesn't provide any in-game stats whatsoever. Nearly every other summoner spell affects the amount of damage you can deal and absorb, the movement speed of your champion, or the duration crowd control affects you. Flash and Teleport, however, offer you more than just number tweaks.

Ghost is the only statement I 100% agree with. If you'd mentioned Teleport, I'd also agree with that as well. But I'd like to argue that those two spells are pretty fairly balanced as "Jack-of-All-Trades" spells. Exhaust is simply Barrier, but better.

ChaoticPinecone1 votes

Hate to break it to you, but most summoners can be used both offensively and defensively.

summoner 21 - defensive because you get a huge shield, but getting a huge shield means you can stay in the fight longer. Its effectively like having a higher health pool for a couple seconds - its both a defensive trait that lets you do your offensive better/safer. summoner 13 - are you OOM to waveclear or OOM to poke summoner 1 - takes away a disable (defensive) but give you some tenacity. They can save you or they can help you fight and keep fighting. summoner 3 - you already know summoner 4 Flash away or flash forward summoner 6 Ghost away or ghost forward summoner 7 Heal to save yourself from dying or ghost forward. It also helps you win all-ins, which can be offensive (if youre all-inning) or defensive (if youre getting all-inned) summoner 14 mostly offensive, but can serve a defensive purpose as a deterrent. If youre vs a TP laner, ignite often gives you the upper hand in a all-in, so your opponenet isnt going to fight you (or will be stupid to fight you). But this one Ill give you is mostly offensive. summoner 32 Scout bushes or gapclose summoner 11 Use against champions for the slow/skirmishers passive or use agasint monsters for the heal summoner 12 Get back into lane after a bad trade or TP ganks

I mean, I flash to get away from ganks, and to secure kills on many MANY more champions than I run Exhaust on. I mean do you hear yourself? "...the only spell in the game that has a defensive and offensive purpose?

Iv flashed to dodge a Fizz ult and get closer to him to use it both offensively and defensively, and many other examples of similar maneuvers with it.

As for its value, it actually gains value when behind because securing a kill, or just zoning the enemy isnt too difficult when ahead, but the more damage a champ does, as well as the more attack speed they have, the more stats Exhaust cuts off making it better.

The problem with the spell is damage creep. It is powerful, and it is hard to do much during its duration. Because the game has devolved a bit into "blow them up before they blow you up 3 second fights," getting killed during exhaust happens more than it used to. It isnt the -10 resist on Exhaust blowing you up... its the blowing you up thats blowing you up.

If we nerf Exhaust, then the blow you up champs will just have less counters, and then they will have higher win rates and get nerfed... that will be the result of Exhaust nerfs.

exhaust only became a staple in mid after certain assasins were so opressive that mages just take it by default. now that those assasins got a rework that is no longer the case.

Just no. Exhaust is one of the only things that makes a single (that's one) champion do less damage all together, the only other thing I can think of is Sona's W powerchord. If Exhaust gets nerfed then what's the point of taking it if it's main job to do make it so Rengar can't oneshot your carry and run away at 550 movement speed?

It reduces damage output, MS, armor, MR, and AS

don't you think that's a bit much?

Also Rengar can Cleanse Exhaust with his W.

Remove the MR and armour reduction and increase the damage reduction output? I mean, 10 armour/mr really only effects early game and is pretty useless late game

and yeah, that's the problem

The armor/MR is literally 10 armor. Trading that for increasing the amount of damage you remove is one of the most insane buffs I've heard yet.

Why don't you sit in a corner and think about what you just said?

You're acting like exhaust is the LeBlanc of summoner spells.

  1. Probably because it is.

  2. I played a game where our GP top, me, Corki mid, and the support all had Exhaust. On the other team there were two Exhausts.

Like, I play Ahri. I can just RE in, bait an Exhaust AND a Heal, and then R out. I don't give a shit about that.

I DO give a shit that after playing so many games of support and Exhaust as a midlaner, it's completely making up for any flaws I have. That's fucked.

The Zed I had in one of my Diamond games had Exhaust too. Exhaust is simply better at helping tack on damage, makes him nigh impossible to kill, and just helps him survive you Exhausting him first.

That's a fucked up meta if you ask me.

Have you tried not being overextended?

Kha'Zix wins against everyone except -Bruisers, who outduel him -Tanks, who he outduels but survive long enough to get away unless you're caught in a bad spot or being moronic -A bot lane who isn't split off and doing dumb shit

He wins against mages because shit, he's an assassin, he kinda should. Solo ADCs because shit, he's an assassin, he kinda should. Solo supports because shit, he's an assassin, he kinda should. And people he outjungles because shit, that should usually be rewarded.

The only legitimate complaints about him should be about how it's a little easier than it should be for him to catch you in the jungle, but Riot did work on fixing that with the patch that was just added.

I'm redirecting your complaints since you're bitching about what's common counterplay for assassins, not what makes Kha'Zix strong.

Read who wrote the replies.

Ivern is one of a select few who can still reliably do it, to the point you should expect it as much as midlaners have to worry about the level 2 gank on mid from Shaco.

Is it still cheesy? Arguably. Is it a problem-causing unique trait? Not if it doesn't crowd out other champions, and the jungle still sees a decent variety of 7-8 champions.

Ivern is good, especially in pro play, for other reasons that Riot HAS taken to address. Including how strong Daisy is.

Nerf the fkn damage we have in this game and exhaust becomes a decent alternative again. It's the insane damage we have right now that makes it so strong, not the SS itself being "OP"

Exhaust is good because it hampers snowballing and makes jumping onto well protected ADCs very risky. If stacking is a problem then just give it a lock out like heal.

Maybe they could do the same thing they have done with heal. Using exhaust on the same person that has already been affected by it is less effective so you can't stack exhausts.

Unlike Hex/Maw, which compensates for your mistakes passively instead of with a keystroke.

Backup4now1 votes

Hey, at least you paid for it, even if it is completely automatic and very strong. At least it's a situation where you invested gold and time building it to counteract a specific scenario (dying instantly to magic damage), rather than being free and working against any scenario (picked a fight you can't win, enemy running, blocking all damage instead of just magic, etc)

Rework flash plz also. I could get a kill but then he flashed. And TP. It's OP because you get a huge advantage over players that take ignite. And image what would have happened if all 5 players took exhaust. That is 12.5 seconds my champion removed from team fight. OMG Rito nerf. :D

N Komaeda1 votes

The thing with Exhaust is that you have to give up another summoner spell.

  • Top's splitting in and you're bot side? Outta luck, you have summoner 3, not summoner 12. Likely they'll take objectives and, when you arrive there, they'll be able to slaughter you anyway, so Exhaust is wasted.

  • Enemy got Mundo and Soraka? Welp, you don't have an summoner 14 to deal with the endless stream of healing, guess you have to convince your AD / Midlaner to build item 3033 or item 3165.

  • You're getting bursted by an assassin? Don't mind it. If you had summoner 21 / summoner 7, you could've saved yourself. Now that you have Exhaust, you can only tag em after the initial burst... Which is futile.

Exhaust might seem overpowered, but that's because it lowers general damage output from your targeted opponent whilst removing a portion of AD and MR. However, you have to give up another combat spell for it, which you can't always have happen.

Exhaust gives squishy champions a fighting chance when they get jumped on by an assassin or high damage dealer. It has a fairly long cooldown and only affects one target. It is a necessary thing to have lest every Katarina, Riven, Leblanc, Rengar is guaranteed to one-shot you as soon as look at you.

ZephyrDrake1 votes

ignite has long since lost it's usefulness to every single SS in the game that's not named Barrier. Top laners ditched that thing as soon as teleport became tye norm. Mid laners would rather get anything over it 99% of the time. Supports much rather get exhaust over it 90% of the time. ADCs stopped picking it he instant Barrier was good and dropped Barrier when it got nerfed and heal got good.

Ignite as a whole is just not worth running over most of the other SSs 99% of the time
