Why Vladimir Mains should always build health instead of AP.

OUTDATED: https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/89XjFiwX-building-full-damage-on-vladimir-is-better

I've played a great deal of Vladimir, while i by no means can play him as well as those who've reached challenger with him. I'm confident enough to say I can play him as well as most players in silver can, except for Vlad Maine, cough cough. That being said, you want health on Vladimir, in fact, Hextech Protobelt, Rylai's, and Liandries should be your 3 core builds (Rylai's and Liandries proc so it's an added bonus).

Here's why, Vladimir already has amazing scaling on his E: 100% Ability Power

  • an additional 180 flat damage, he doesn't need that ability to deal more damage, he just needs to be able to survive long enough in a team-fight to cast it. This is because Vladimir is NOT a tank, he can't sustain himself as well as Swain to survive hard cc or burst damage. On top of this, he needs the added health to mitigate some of the penalties for charging and casting E, 8% of his current health.

Vladimir is an amazing champion, I've beaten so many champions that were considered op from Syndra and Orianna in mid lane to Darius and Fiora in top. Nothing hurts me more when players say he is weak, if people actually played him they would know.

P.S Despite these down votes, more people in the comment section agree than disagree.

Vlad's damage ratios are obscenely better than his health ones, there actually isnt an argument to be had. He is first and foremost a damage threat, an AoE nuke with AP-based healing. Rylai's is only worth when you really need to kite, since the stats are shit now, and even then Ludens is probably the better option for that. Liandry's is almost always inferior to Void Staff, the only exceptions being against hypertanks. Protobelt is actually good because it's cheap and gives him everything he wants, but you buy it for the burst and price, not the health attached to it.

It is far better to build AP on him than anything else. You get like 20 AP from building Warmogs, that's total trash. Maybe instead of wasting gold, build AP and use that stunning 100% AP ratio on E. Building more health doesnt do anything to mitigate the cost of your E, since it's maxHP%, you're still losing the same value out of your health bar if you have 1000 HP or 100,000.

He outsustains Swain by far, it's just a matter of properly managing your healing to optimize it, as well as Swain having a finite limit on how long he can sustain up until his mana runs out, Vladimir does not. Vlad's healing also comes in nasty, delicious burst form, which means (unlike Swain who has a fixed healpersecond value) Vladimir can do ludicrous things like heal upwards of 2k hp with one good Crimson Rush Q, but only if you build AP.

I'm glad you're enthusiastic about Vladimir, but please check out the reddit and discord servers for Vladimir Mains for tips on how to play him. Basically everyone agrees that full damage is really the only way to play him, and the only reason you should ever be getting HP items is out of situational necessity (like Randuins or Spirit Visage).

Everyone agrees that full damage is the only way to play him? The comments to my bottom say otherwise.

Also some of what you said sounds sketchy, yes Vladimir can sustain himself longer than Swain, but ONLY if the fight drags out log enough. If you get CC'd or bursted down, you won't be able to.

Also, crimson rush healing for 2k hp? I have never seen this happen before, this is either exaggerated out of proportion or incorrect when you consider that even with a full AP build you couldn't even deal that much damage much alone heal for that amount for reduced effectiveness.

Also people! I am not recommending Warmogs! I am only saying you shouldn't focus on more AP when Vladimir is already able to pull off a massive amount of damage. There are only 3 core builds I'm suggesting, the rest is up to you!

I don't mean any offense when I say this, I'm low bronze, you can probablly tell, but can you say your advice is any more valid when you only have a 50 percent win rate in gold, on Vladimir? I looked up your LoLKing you have 20 wins and 20 losses this season.

Yeah, I tanked hard at the beginning of the year and climbed back up, and I havent played since early February so I havent been able to win more. If I can climb to G3 in less than two months, surely you could scrape your way out of low bronze with your amazing, revolutionary build?

Yeah, my advice is more valid.

even with a full AP build you couldn't even deal that much damage much alone heal for that amount for reduced effectiveness.

Reduced effectiveness on...what? Your heal scaling has its own value, it's independent on damage dealt, and it heals more if you have more missing HP.

Do you play Vladimir?

Your "three core builds" are all low-stat items with pretty good passives. If you built all three you're just gimping yourself hard stat-wise for the sake of moderately decent passives. At most you get one, preferably Proto because it comes with CDR and burst.

I see why you're bronze. This post is nothing short of absolute stupidity. "Don't build damage on vlad. Yeah ok have fun being relevant."

Hallbuster1 votes

Where did I say you shouldn't build damage? I said he doesn't need more AP if he's getting most of it off health builds anyways. Hence the 3 core builds.

Unless you actually played Vladimir as many times as I have, don't be too quick to criticize.

P.S I'm 11 lp away from silver.

Vladimir item 3116 item 3151 item 3065 item 3742 item 3083 Add any boots you want, but this is generally the build you want with Vlad. It's not the 100-0 build but it's the force them to stay away from you build.

no...

I get 6 down votes with no clear explanation as to why while someone who just reccomeneded a horrible build stays untouched?

??????????

The title of your post itself is incorrect. Makes it a lot easier for people to just downvote.

Replace warmogs with proto belt and the dead man's with zhonyas n ypu would be better off.

Imo obviously

TheGrot3 votes

There actually isn't a single correct item in this build I don't think.

MrHaZeYo1 votes

Na Vladimir functions better with the build I said then raw ap builds. He's a drain tank battle mage not a combo burst mage. He needs to survive long enough to get multi spell rotations off.

To each there own though.

But hey you're better then I so maybe you know better.

TheGrot1 votes

He does...xd

Trust me, I know what I'm talking about with this one.

Hallbuster1 votes

Finally 2 people that actually agree with me on this one! Not that I'm saying I ever doubted myself wrong.....

Hallbuster1 votes

This is not what I'm recommending at all. Sir, do you know what core builds are? They are the builds you want every game regarding circumstance. The items you listed make him completely useless whether he's a glass cannon or tank.

First of all Warmogs is worthless, there are plenty items that offer health, but little to no armor. This isn't even considering it's useless passive.

Deadman plate should be swapped for a Zhonyas which has both CDR and AP. Things Vladimir needs.

Spirit Visage is not a bad choice against MR based teams. I get it 90 percent of the time I go mid but go with Zhonyas if I'm top.

item 3157 item 3135 item 3089 item 3001 item 3152

Hallbuster1 votes

Void staff and abyssal mask are both highly situational. Void staff ignores 35 percent of the targets MR, unless everyone is building it against you, you shouldn't go for it. Abyssal Mask isn't anymore useful than a spirit visage since Vladimir can make full use of it's passive. If you were playing a different champion, abyssal might be slightly better unless you have Soraka or Sona on your team.

TheGrot1 votes

If you're playing a game of vladimir and nobody builds MR, then I'm pretty sure the game just ends before you get to full build. Abyssal amplifies his damage in a way that is way more significant than healing from spirit visage.

Hallbuster2 votes

It might just be my games then, nobody seems to build MR in my games so I never bothered with void staff. As for Abyssal Mask, the stats say it deals 10 percent increased damage to nearby enemies, I personally never understood what this meant so, can you explain why it's better than the 30 percent of additional healing from Spirit Visage?

Moooose31 votes

You still want zhonyas on vlad. After those 3 items. Then visage probably.

I don't care how much you play vlad you're bronze.

Silver is just as bad don't kid yourself. Still trash. A bit shinier is all.

Hallbuster1 votes

So you're calling me bad after you admit the 3 core builds I suggested was good? Better start robbing Peter to pay Paul.

Moooose31 votes

All I'm saying is your post is fucking retarded. That's like saying you want crit on jhin or something. Like yeah no shit. And you took it a step too far either way. Build damage after those 3 is fantastic.

Alright thanks anyways.

Moooose31 votes

"he has a 1.0 ap ratio. Don't build any more damage." That's just so backwards it hurts.

Have a nice day.

If someone can't respond without insults you are better off ignoring them anyway. 9 to 1 they are school kids with bad parents and if they are right about anything, its on accident. People that want to give helpful advice won't call you trash or fucking retarded. I don't know much about Vlad, but I know enough about trolls to know this Moooose3 person deserves no thanks.

Emerald Fang1 votes

Yeah, tank Vlad works but only if you don't already have a tank. If you have 600 AP + Rylai's, you're getting 600 * 1.4 = 840 bonus HP + 300. So you have 2000 base plus 1140 so 3140 HP, plus a lot of resistance if you build Zhonya's and Banshee's.
