Is Invictus Gaming really a Chinese team?

Cloud273··2 votes·2,896 views

I don't follow pro players or the pro scene much at all, but I've watched replays of games on the Korean server(s), and I know I've seen The Shy in at least a few games. If you go on lol.gamepedia.com you'll notice almost half of their active roster is Korean players. Is this really a win for China when almost half of their team is from a different country? Just saying. I'm not butthurt that Fanatic lost or anything (personally I don't really care who wins), and I'm happy for IG, but I don't really think it's fair to call Invictus Gaming a Chinese team when almost half of their players are Korean. As a comparison, look at Fanatic. Almost their entire team is European players, so it's completely fair to call them an EU team.

I guess we should disband every single team from every region except Korea since every single team from every region pretty much has some sort of import on their team

Should rookie even count? he only spent 1 season in korea and the rest was with IG. 1 year vs 4 years.

What matters is the country they were born in, not the server they play on.

That shouldn't matter at all. He's spent most of his career in china and has more total time and his height of skill in china.

To say "it only matter where he was born" is literally just salty reaching.

That would be as bad as if bjerg actually won something at worlds, say next year(just as an example, we know it wont happen), but after he won people would try to claim EU mid even tho he's only player in EU for 1 year but 5+ in Na.

I clearly stated in the OP I literally don't give a sh*t who wins. But I think in order for it to be a true victory for China you need a team of China born players. Look at SKT. Not a single player on their team is from a different country. Literally all of them are Korean. I'm sure they make their country EXTREMELY proud every year at worlds. They don't have to rely on talent from other countries. Their players are literally that good they don't need anyone else.

You cant say one thing then show the actions for another.

Also, 3 of the 5 starters are Chinese.

Also, what about SKT? Good for them, glad they stick to their ideals. Also, i'm sure they did make korea proud this year at worlds.

and obviously everyone in korea is proud when a team from their region wins, that's how it is for litterally any team.

China is EXTREMELY proud that the team from the LPL won worlds.

I understand if you don't like it and all, that's cool, but don't reach beyond the stars for a way to say they don't deserve it.

WTF are you talking about? And yea SKT didn't make it to Worlds THIS year, but I'm sure all the other years that they have makes up for that. The pride that Korea gets when SKT team wins is greater than the pride China gets this year. When they (SKT) win they do it without help from anyone. If IG's ENTIRE TEAM was Chinese, then yea you could say they earned it, but the fact is IG got carried by Korean players like The Shy, Duke, etc. If those players weren't on the team there's no way they would've made it as far as they did.

So where's korea's pride this year? They didn't sound very prideful this tournament.

IG earned it regardless, no matter how mad/salty you get about it. Also, when it came to the finals, you cant say the koreans carried them considering they all played equally well and then the chinese jungler got finals mvp. Like i said, i understand you don't like it, but stop reaching acting like they don't deserve it.

Bjersen is an EU midlaner, same goes for Jensen because they are born and raised on EU.

That would be the equivalent of saying that Messi doesn't count as argentinian because he spent most of his career on FC Barcelona that is a spanish team and that's only 1 example. No one says that on the soccer fanbase, and when ppl from argentina root for Barça because of Messi they are not trying to "steal" their success, they are just happy that a guy from their country wins or sad when he and Barça loses.

This said, IG is a chinesse team, they play on the LPL against other LPL teams and their success is LPL success.

But pretending that TheShy, Duke or Rookie are not korean is bs imo.

I dont blame koreans for being happy that at least the team that won Worlds had 2(+1) korean players, it's logic.

Wait, why would that matter? No one cares which country players are born in, only which servers they play on.

Dude played two LCK finals on 2014 on KT Arrows and won the second one against SSB.

Its not like he was a no one on korea.

And most important: he is korean.

IG players are currently playing on korean server because they are in korea for the world tournament right now. (well, not anymore lol) the only player that is korean is rookie and he has been playing in LPL (chinese pro league) for 4 years now.

so yeah, Ig is a chinese team for real. good question tho

IG is registered and presented as a Chinese team. The team's nationality is Chinese regardless of who goes into the team.

The same reason why say, Fnatic having had many Korean players in its roster at different part of its history (former and current; 1 currently active) does not in any way undermine the unquestionable fact that it's an European team; or how the 2 currently active EU players in C9 also does not in any way, shape, or form undermine C9 as a NA team.

League (and most sport and game topic/event) is not something like Olympic Games or World Cup where BOTH the team and the player themselves represent the nation/region they are from, it does not require specific citizenship of the player to be recognised eligible to join and represent a team. In League, the victory is in the end of the day crowned to the team and not the nation/region; the tendency to associate teams with nationalities is ultimately unofficial and only exist mainly within the playerbase. This is the same for every single team sport and game event that is not specific and emphasising on the nationality part, which is basically 90%+ of it; import happens a lot and this is no news, so to speak.

Either way, the team is a Chinese team because it's registered as Chinese, and that's kinda it. It's that easy.
