When Fiora was reworked, I was building her glass cannon because that's how she was always played, in the same vein that Tryndamere and Yi are. Her building 2 damage items with HP on it then full tank just disgusts me honestly, I am glad for this. Fiora is supposed to be an adc, right? So she should build like one.

I was the same way. Ive essentially stuck with my pre rework build, with some slight adjustments.

Something I found funny is that, even without HP items to back it up, as of patch 6.5 or below titanic hydra did more dmg overall than ravenous... that damn active is so good.

Sadly even adc are building tanky coughitem 3053cough

Because they totally didn't have lategame tanky items did they

Potato Doc12 votes

because getting a B-veil, or a GA doesnt actually help with their damage output, it just helps them stay alive for longer, meanwhile steraks and Maw are both great buys because they give survive-ability and damage

ahferroin79 votes

Except that by staying alive longer, they can do more damage. A more correct statement would be that it doesn't help their per-hit damage output. It's also worth noting that with decent life-steal, Sterak's Gage is actually more likely to save you than either Veil or GA because it lets you heal up immediately and has a shorter CD than GA.

My Waifu Vanilla8 votes

That is my problem with Sterak's. It TECHNICALLY gives you the same amount of "bonus health" as GA (30%), but comes at 1/7 the cd with no real downside attached to it. GA typically gets you teabagged when it pops which causes that 30% health to go to waste half the time, whereas Sterak's let's you do whatever you want during it's 30% bonus health.

Potato Doc2 votes

I mean we basically said the same thing, but I agree with you entirely on the fact Sterak's gage is better

Fiora mostly needs to stack AD as much as possible now to get her scaling up. Maybe just a little tank like Sterak's, Maw, or Spirit Visage would help with burst/lifesteal potential.. She's also going to need more CDR than normal to help keep her abilities up since her tankiness has gone down. (PERSONAL OPINION)

I think the best (well rounded) Fiora build after this patch will be this: item 3158 item 3078 item 3074 item 3142 item 3072 item 3065 Gives a lot of AD, 40%CDR, Ton of Lifesteal, and a little MR/tank.

Tankier but still good dps option (What i'll likely build): item 3111 item 3071 item 3074 item 3156 item 3053 item 3065 Gives a little less AD (but still good), 30% CDR, but gives you a lot of burst protection with some nice MR/tank.

If you want to go full glass canon (Leeroy Jenkins build): item 3158 item 3078 item 3074 item 3142 item 3812 item 3072 Max AD, 40% CDR, and tons of Lifesteal. Who needs defense anyway?

assuming she doesnt still build similarly. People often assume its just the champion and not their own fault for why they lose. At a certain point the dunning krugger wears off. Oh who am I kidding this is boards.

Retillin6 votes

Yeah, I don't think this is really going to change her that much.

KyroRayne2 votes

The biggest nerf to her is Titantic Hydra, but even that is only 15 AD... so yeah... She'll be built exactly the same because they nerfed her base and buffed the scaling only in the early game... not really much of a difference.

Hell, they even buffed assassin Yi to give even more true damage now if you build more AD, which isn't that difficult and still be tanky.

Good riddance. You will not be missed.

Am I the only person that isn't bothered that Fiora, a fighter, a champion belonging to the tanky DPS archetype, is building like a tanky DPS champion?

Also: I don't see any manner of nerfs realistically killing bruiser-builds on Fiora. Fiora's rework fundamentally changed her into a fighter, a tanky DPS champion, an Irelia 2.0 if you will. True damage AA's, good sustain, resilience against CC, dash that applies on-hit effects, double-dash capabilities, conditional short-ranged stun, respectable damage from bases and with demi-tanky builds.

For Fiora to realistically feel good about glass-cannon builds: she just doesn't have enough tools in her kit to survive long enough to do her job either IMO. Glass-cannon Fiora is a lot like glass-cannon Darius or glass-cannon Irelia. Seems like a good idea in a 1v1, but it completely neuters your ability to do anything in a team-fight.

Fiora's also generally been instantly bursting people in 1.5 seconds late-game with tanky Fiora builds. Being tanky Fiora and taking 2.5 seconds to kill stuff isn't like "OMG so little damage must build glass-cannon". Upcomming nerfs are more realistically going to solidify Fiora's current build, but impose more realistic weaknesses and trade-offs for her power within tanky DPS builds as a tanky DPS champion.

Because Fiora, like Yi, Tryndamere, and Yasuo, belongs to an archetype of Fighter, the "Light Fighter" or "mADC". They're supposed to build full damage like an ADC and be squishy, but due to being melee have some sort of defensive steroid. Yi has Meditation, Tryndamere has Undying Rage, Yasuo has WW and Passive. Fiora has Parry & Riposte and he ultimate as her defensive steroids.

Irelia is not among this archetype and is a full on Fighter or "Bruiser".

Auz the Ripper4 votes

I think Riot considers Irelia a "diving fighter"

Blue Moon Wolf2 votes

That's a more of a style than her sub-class. She can take more of a beating then light fighters, making her a Bruiser. But coupled with her Kit, she is able to turret dive safely compared to most other fighters, hens a diving fighter. Though that did just get me wondering if Riot might make her one of the big 6 champs if they do decide to work on diving fighters after the Mage update.

Auz the Ripper4 votes

Riot has diving fighter considered as its own sub-class, it was mentioned on an Aatrox thread a while ago http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/8T5QcndN-reguarding-aatrox-meddler-lets-discuss

That's Aatrox's big gameplay issue - he doesn't have a distinct enough gameplay identity, so the only major gameplay reason to pick him is if he's the strongest option in his class (diving fighters).

Blue Moon Wolf1 votes

you know... this is exactly why riot needs to start adding these sub-classes to the champ info pages. It's more or less easy enough to know the differences between a Light Fighter and a Juggernaut, but then you add bruisers that are in between light fighters and juggernauts and Diving fighters that seem to be any of the 3 that can turret dive and after a while that just gets hard to keep track of :L

Auz the Ripper1 votes

I think "Diving" more refers to the fact that they dive straight through the enemy team to kill the ADC rather than just flat out tower diving

Blue Moon Wolf2 votes

Maybe so. But to be fair, finding the definitions of these subclasses is like finding a needle in a haystack. Could very well be both to some degree.

Ruin Lance1 votes

actually believe it or not yasuo was originally intended to be built as a bruiser, not full damage.

BastionKross9 votes

Yas was also intended to be a bot lane replacement for a marksman. There's a lot of things that don't work out as far as paper vs actual games; especially when CerT is involved.

67chrome1 votes

Because Fiora, like Yi, Tryndamere, and Yasuo, belongs to an archetype of Fighter, the "Light Fighter" or "mADC".

Fiora did belong to that archetype pre-rework. Fiora does not belong to that archetype post-rework.

Also, concerning light fighters: Tryndamere, Yasou, and Master Yi all want to build critical strike chance very badly - they also want %Armor penetrations to take their physical damage to the next level: or avoid being rendered obsolete by tanky targets. At least outside of Devourer-tank Yi. All 3 also want some investment in %AS.

As-is Fiora doesn't really want any offensive stat beyond AD. Fiora's Lunge AA resets make %AS about as appealing to her as %AS is to Riven. Fiora's Bladework prevents critical strike chance from doing anything, making crit generally pretty useless on her. Fiora's passive renders armor penetration largely obsolete.

Pre-Reowork Fiora's pure-physical kit was hard-countered by armor stacking, causing armor penetration to be a huge concern. Pre-rework Fiora also had an amazing combo of AD and %AS steroids: taking her AA power to the next level in a way that synergized very well with an AD+AS+ArPen+Crit build path.

Now Fiora does not synergize with those things, lacking even the incentive to run AD+ArmorPen builds that Talon and Zed run with.

When you consider the longer you survive the more damage you get to deal, defense does technically scale with offense. Killing things fast so you take less damage also technically scales with defense: but late-game Fiora's 4-hit ult does not kill things quickly given the complete lack of time-investment everyone else needs for their OHKO QWER combo.

And again, in Fiora's case: %AS, Crit, and armor Pen do pretty much nothing for her while defense is a very real secondary multiplier for her overall power. Especially considering restoring 50 HP technically restores 100 HP when you have 50% damage reduction, allowing Fiora's passive and ultimate to actually scale pretty well with armor/MR in tandem with AD.

One of the awesome parts of LoL is that you can play any champion in any lane with any item with any mastery settup with any rune settup with any skill-rank order with any item settup with any summoner spell settup.

Main advantage is such a system encourages Riot to make champions like Nautilus, Zed, and Thresh that really fullfill the fantasy players want within a specific archetype. Because if there kit doesn't fullifll the fantasy: you build them how they're mathematically the best in competitive play, not how they were meant to be played.

Obviously this also comes with the disadvantage that if Riot makes a champion scale better with an off-build than their inteded build, there archetype and play-style will effectively change to be that off-build.

Irelia is not among this archetype and is a full on Fighter or "Bruiser".

Irelia has true-damage on-hit with her auto-attacks. Fiora has true-damage on-hit with her auto-attacks. Irelia has in-built on-hit sustain. Fiora has in-built on-hit sustain. Irelia has a conditional short-ranged stun. Fiora has a conditional short-ranged stun. Irelia has the potential to dive twice at an opponent. Fiora has the potential to dive twice at an opponent. Irelia is more resistant to CC effects than most. Fiora is more resistant to CC effects than most. Irelia's ultimate allows for a ton of sustain when nuking enemy champions. Fiora's ultimate allows for a ton of sustain when nuking enemy champions. Irelia's dash applies on-hit effects like Sheen. Fiora's dash applies on-hit effects like Sheen. Irelia wants to survive long enough in melee-range to get off a solid number of auto-attacks. Fiora wants to survive long enough in melee-range to get off a solid number of auto-attacks.

Fiora simply isn't a light-fighter. Fiora is also more similar to Irelia than Fiora is similar to any other champion, especially the likes of Yi, Trynd, or Yasou. Fiora wants to do the same things Irelia does in the same lane Irelia goes with a build catering to a similar play-style, play-pattern, and overall niche. That effectively makes Fiora a tanky DPS bruiser just like Irelia - whether anyone wants her to be a light fighter or not, Fiora is objectively a bruiser at the moment: with or without the upcoming nerfs.

NineTailedMystic2 votes

Which is unfortunate, due to that gameplay being unhealthy. Irelia does flat, and rather low, true damage. Fiora, on the other hand, has %Max HP, a good amount more mobility(Multiple low CD dashes compared to two quick burst dashes), and CC reflector, and a much more impactful ult. They need to push Fiora's preferred build towards the "Light Fighter" archetype more. I'm not saying kill off her "off-tank" bruiser-ish build, but she needs to trade some things off for that survivability. As of current they did push her to build more AD, but will unfortunately continue to be cancer with a similar build. It's just due to her inherent %Max HP true damage that allows her to kill anybody in a 1v1 (as she's supposed to), BUT being unkillable in said 1v1.

I think they should dumpster her base %max HP true damage, and skyrocket the ratio per 100 bonus AD. Full build as full AD should reward ~20% max hp true damage. Bruiser build should reward around 5-7% max HP true damage. Or perhaps make her Passive scale exponentially per 100 bonus AD. 100 Bonus AD = 5% Max HP True Damage, 200 Bonus AD = 14% Max HP True Damage, 300 Bonus AD = 25% Max HP True Damage. You die if you allow her to fight you. You win if you fight on your own terms to your strengths.

She should be strong, even very strong in a 1v1, but no class can effectively 1v1 her due to this build. Tanks have the defenses to survive a decent amount of time, but don't do enough damage to ever kill her. Assassins can't kill her due to her being able to survive their burst through HP + Resistances and Riposte, then die due to being squishy. Mages can't kill her since she'll live through their burst, jump on them, and kill them. Fighters would probably have the best chance at killing her due to doing damage and being able to take a good amount of it, but Fiora will like run circles around them. ADCs can't kill her without being kiting gods. It's just not good for the game.

Just my take on it.

Consider how effective tryn's W is in teamfights and Spirit Visage if he ever gets poked. He does not die and if he ever might he has Undying Rage. Basically DrMundo 2.0!

Also worth mentioning, with the Fiora nerfs, is that Titanic Hydra is also losing a substantial amount of AD. Meaning she wont be getting a lot of benefit from it, and will surely lack damage in trade for being tankier if she chooses to pick it up.

EvilRabbitt2 votes

I'd like to tell the boards I told them so. I said Titan, Steraks, and Maw were too potent. Steraks is agreed on, Titan is getting nerf, everyone hates Maw. Jeez being right and being bronze, what am I a paradox?

Krys Star3 votes

To be fair, I don't see how elo correlates with logic. Just because you're bronze doesn't mean you can't be right. Meddler did say they'd be looking into Maw, however. I agree with a lot of people when they say Steraks should be melee only, as well.

MilfHuntUnitM1T4 votes

I looked at the PBE, those "nerfs" look more like early game buffs and very slight late game nerfs. Overall, besides the 1% true damage nerf (which is all across the board, and not just tank fiora) this looks like a buff for Fiora. Can you elaborate?

Fiora

  • Duelist's Dance (Passive) **
Base Damage down to 2% of target's maximum health in true damage from 3%
Bonus AD Ratio changed to 4% from [2.8% - 4.5% based on level]

  • Bladework (E)
Slow reduced to 30% at all ranks from 40/45/50/55/60%
Attack Speed Boost no longer multiplicative.**

Shadow Gilgamesh3 votes

4% instead of 2.8-4.5 may buff her mid game, when she would have her 2 damage items and boots.

But 2% base from 3% and the fact that she won't have tons of bonus AD early to make much use of the better early ratio means her early is likely weaker, and most importantly, after those 2 damage items if she doesn't keep building damage she'll see a BIG drop in her cheese damage, especially on her dumb ult.

Jonxx4 votes

This isn't even that big of a nerf. She will still be able to build tanky, just a little less.

Vekkna4 votes

Tank Fiora is not even remotely dead. She just has to put a item 3812 in her build.

GenoXx2 votes

oh but tank yi is acceptable? lol i knew whiners were full of ez going champion mains

Steelflame8 votes

No one liked Tankyi either. The thing is, at least he can't dash on a 2 second CD that can go over walls. Yi still had to run at you, and could Alpha Strike 1 time, maybe two, if lucky, to avoid certain spells/follow you over a wall with vision, and it required insanely good timing. Fiora had Q on a 2 sec or so CD, W to just block everything for .75 seconds, while still having 30% CDR, 40% with Ionians.

Both of them were bull, Fiora was just worse BS.
