Kassadin Rework

The other day i realized i haven't seen a single Kassading being used in months, so i thought of some changes that could increase his itemization while keeping gold per power point. These changes will somehow help him survive the earlygame as he starts with mana and no AP (duh), while not breaking his lategame. Depending more on mana would make him more unique in that aspect and increase build potential.

  • Passive- Void Stone Kassadin takes 15% reduced magic damage and ignores unit collision.
  • -NEW
    In case Option 1 is chosen for spells: Kassadin ignores unit collision and takes 5% (+5% per 100 ability power) reduced magic damage.

  • In case Option 2 is chosen for spells: Each time Kassadin casts a spell, he gets 1 charge, a charge is consumed when Kassadin will receive magic damage. Consuming a charge shields him from 50 magic damage. 2.5/2.3/2 seconds cooldown between charge production. Kassadin can have a maximum of 1/3/5 charges.

** Q- Null Sphere** Kassadin fires a void bolt, interrupting channel spells and dealing 70 / 95 / 120 / 145 / 170 (+70% of ability power) magic damage to the target enemy while granting himself a shield that absorbs 40 / 70 / 100 / 130 / 160 (+30% of ability power) magic damage for 1.5 seconds.

  • -NEW Fires a void bolt, (silencing (see options below)) the target and dealing 70 / 95 / 120 / 145 / 170 (+7% of maximum mana) magic damage to the target enemy while granting himself a shield that absorbs 40 / 70 / 100 / 130 / 160 (+3% of maximum mana) **damage ** for 1.5 seconds. (**OPTION **2: Change from 70% AP ----> 30%AP + 4%max mana)

(Silence Options) 1- 0.75 silence on target 2- makes the target cast slower for 1.6 seconds, adding a casting time for it's abilities of 0.4 secs. 3- reduce the sight of the target to melee range. 4- shield negates the first negative spell cast on Kassadin (like banshee)

** W- Nether Blade** Passive: Kassadin's basic attacks draw energy from the void, dealing 20 (+10% of ability power) bonus magic damage. Active: Kassadin charges his Nether Blade, causing his next basic attack to deal 40 / 65 / 90 / 115 / 140 (+60% of ability power) bonus magic damage and restore 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8 % of his missing mana (increases to 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40 % against champions).

  • -NEW Passive: Basic attacks deal 20 (+1% of maximum mana) bonus magic damage. Active: His next basic attack deals 40 / 65 / 90 / 115 / 140 (+6% of maximum mana) bonus magic damage and restore 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8 % of his missing mana (increases to 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40 % against champions). (**OPTION **2: Change active from 60% AP ----> 30%AP + 3%max mana)

E- Force Pulse Kassadin draws energy from spells cast in his vicinity, gaining a charge whenever a spell is cast near him. Upon reaching 6 charges, Kassadin can use Force Pulse to deal 80 / 105 / 130 / 155 / 180 (+70% of ability power) magic damage and slow enemies by 50 / 60 / 70 / 80 / 90 % in a cone in front of him for 1 second.

  • -NEW Gains a charge whenever a spell is cast near him. Upon reaching 4 charges, Kassadin can use Force Pulse to deal 80 / 105 / 130 / 155 / 180 (+7% of maximum mana) magic damage and slow enemies by 50 / 60 / 70 / 80 / 90 % in a cone in front of him for 1 second. (**OPTION **2: Change from 70% AP ----> 25%AP + 3.5%max mana)

The cast time to his Q is a really good idea

i would add some things: force pulse: -6 charges -2.5 seconds cooldown

riftwalk: -increase the mana cost to 150/300/600/1200 -increase the range to 700 -increase cooldown to 7/6/5

Where you playing this game when Kassadin did have a silence? I'm guessing no.

The reason why Kassadin doens't have a silence is because it was extremely toxic when he did have one. You could not respond other than auto attack and move around before he deleted you to non-existence. If you were the ADC then your basic attacks would deal quite a bit of damage, but you'd still be deleted and severely impaired without any abilities within the small moment of your brief existence.

I still think Kassadin needs some tweaks that would bring him back to a solid consistent play rate. I imagine this would be relatively easy with some number tweaks, but Riot always wants creative and innovative ways to change the game.

Why not put an effect of sight reduction on Kassadin's Q. It severely visually impairs the player but they can still use their emergency spells to escape from the situation, such as a Kha'Zix ult or an Ahri ult, or Talon ult, or a Trist E. This pretty much turns Kassadin into a mini single target Nocturne but would - I think - be a healthy way for Kassadin to apply pressure and catch people.

i didn't think the silence was that bad before the change when i faced a Kassadin, and he couldn't "delete" you like, lets say Diana. but i can see 2 other options. 1- reduce the silence time 2- make enemies affected by the effect have a "casting" time of 0.6secs for spells, basically just making them cast slower. 3- your suggestion of sight reduction, though as Kassadin is a melee champ, it would only be useful for him to escape.

When Kassadin jumped on you with his silence he would either kill you or simply Blink away again. The silence was long enough that you can't respond with your abilities. You couldn't chase him and there was very little counterplay available for him not to simply do that over and over again until he does kill you.

It won't be only useful for escape. The sight reduction would reduce sight reduce down to a hundred units. This would be useful for Kassadin in dodging skillshots and disorientating targets, but it will allow targets to still use their emergency escape abilities.

Isnt that the point, to buff him and give him a potential way of assassinating while keeping it healthy?

yes, why do you say that?

Assassin's are in nature unhealthy to play against.

Kassadin with his silence was too unhealthy and his snowballing was very frequent.

Added Passive Rework to the OP, because in case only the first rework option is considered, then mana items will normally give a lot of AP that would go to waste, this was AP is justified under the first option. The second option already gives a use to AP by itself.

sight reduction in some cases could be worse than a silence (more vs champions that lack a disengage) because it also affects auto attacks. i added some options to the OP regarding this, including your blind suggestion. any thoughts about those or the other changes?

kJs1 votes

But giving Kassadin sight reduction will bump his kill potential and utility and more importantly won't be as unhealthy as silence in all cases. Silence is far worse than sight reduction because with silence you can't use any abilities that would otherwise get you to safety. You don't really autoattack the Assassin if they jump on you anyway so that point is null. When an Assassin jumps on you you run away because they will deal a lot of damage. Unless you can match the Assassin's damage with your own autoattacks - which other roles can't - then your point isn't a good one. Sight Reduction is healthier to have and play against because it lets the target react with escape but in turn Kassadin has the advantage of not being seen, so he can outplay the escapes of his targets by reading ahead of the fight - predicting where the target will jump to, etc. Sight Reduction doesn't block any ability casting besides those that are targetted. So the target can still blindly aim at where Kassadin might be in which case Kassadin can reposition himself to dodge skillshots. You can set up ganks against Kassadin's target by blinding them with sight reduction and bringing your jungler or team member into the fight.

There's so much outplay potential with Sight Reduction, more than both Interrupts and Silences.

The psychological effect of a mini nocturne ult helps with his usefulness and pressure as well. Keeping in mind the ability effects will still be single target.

specially more than the "channel interrupt" which is extremely useless, if it deactivated toggled spells, removed buffs or interrupted things like garen's charge it would be a bit less useless. so yeah, i think almost anything would be better

Oooo Deleting buffs would so OP. Vayne ults and tumbles but you already threw your Q out, gg vayne.

Olaf ults to get past your whole team, Kassadin throws his Q out goodbye Olaf.

EDIT: changed ratios/cooldown on his passive for more strategical play.

This is the new RYZE!!!

CommunistComrade1 votes

I suggest highering the base damage of q and e!

Nekusen1 votes

ryze has a completely different set, the only thing in common would be mana scaling, kinda like saying all AP scaling and all AD scaling champs are the same XD

i agree Q & E dmg could be increased by 1%max mana

CommunistComrade1 votes

Because of his mana scaling would Kassadin be considered a tanky ap assassin?

that would be kinda cool, his passive give a hint about that possibility

1% of 2000 mana is 20 damage. that's a HUUUUUUUUUUUGE nerf to his w.

1% of 2000 mana is 20 damage. that's a HUUUUUUUUUUUGE nerf to his w.

it's not, because you are only considering base mana and not item mana. base AP is 0 and 20 is more than 0.

also, it says " 7% " , not " 1% "
