DFT and the new AP items

Ok, so the new mage items will give less ap in favor of utility (if good or bad a discussion for another day), the main problem is Deathfire Touch is already mostly ignored at the moment to get keystones, so less AP will make it even worse and lean people more towards other masteries (TLD)

Is there any plan to tweak DFT, replace it with another keystone or are it's current form and numbers the desired ones ?

the only one using it to his full potential is Jhin , but its not because the mastery is good, its becasue other choices are worse on him, that says alot

but its not because the mastery is good

Scales moderately off AD. He gets a crap ton. DFT doesn't stack - it refreshes. He doesn't burst, and has has a noticeable delay between damage application. Has reduced effect on AoE damage. His Q, ult, and AA are considered single target. Jhin primarily sieges from a distance or uses hit-and-run tactics (as opposed too slug fests or kiting). Jhin deals almost entirely physical damage. DFT deals magic damage.

His kit really is tailor made for DFT. You imply that he doesn't want to use it. So what, in your opinion, does he really want; a stat stick?

Isn't his W considered single target against champions? So only his E would be considered AoE, and that already deals immense magic damage by itself.

FastAsHeck2 votes

his Q is also AoE

Supreme Senpai693 votes

Not AoE, just hits multiple enemies

FastAsHeck1 votes

the game considers it an AoE, so it applies DFT for reduced time

B1naryB0t2 votes

It was changed a while back specifically to make the game consider it single target for DFT.

FastAsHeck1 votes

wait so bouncing spells like kat's Q and Fidlle's E are single target?

B1naryB0t1 votes

No, it's a special condition Riot specifically made for Jhin.

La Barbotte1 votes

i dont think you got what i meant, that still doesnt mean the mastery is good, it means jhin uses it perfectly, others wont, we both are right here buddy

I used to use it on Cass and Teemo, but now I use TLD...

Only champions I still use it on are Heimerdinger and Fiddle.

B1naryB0t1 votes

Funny enough, heimer is much better with Thunderlords, since his turret shots apply one stack for it each and his cone of rockets procs it no matter what since it counts each rocket as a damage proc.

A Liberal1 votes

I've never done the math, but I always assumed DFT was better since heimer revolves around kiting enemy champs through his turrets.

his turrets AA don't apply DFT. also heimer can't really kite

Sadly that's the nature of bot lane. You gotta take whichever one boosts your harass the most. Really sad that you can't tap into Stormraider's because it's absolutely hilarious on his crits.

La Barbotte1 votes

well stormraiders is overkill on most people, the movespeed is super good but you rarely actually need it over something else, league is all about damage

elon wątroba1 votes

Annie with stormraider is funny as fuck, if you are fed you can proc it with q alone :D.

La Barbotte1 votes

yeah its fun, but, thunderlord still is better, you get to have a bigger chance of winning trades, no reason not to pick it at all, even DFT make your rotation ramp up in dmg, stormraider is a good mastery on paper, but will never be the best unless to fill a niche or because nothing is better for X champion

B1naryB0t1 votes

Stormraiders is good on talon since he has no escapes and he already has more than enough damage to assassinate people. Also very good early in the game if you're 1 auto from winning and they try to kite.

La Barbotte1 votes

same point i keep saying, its good, im totally with you on this, BUT, thunderlord is better, its free damage, meaning better trades, better all ins before getting fed thus helping snowball (you must have noticed the recent trend of tanky items on everything) so he needs to snowball before is targets get tanky (steraks mostly)

he can escape with his ult or slowing people.

but yeah, he uses stormriders well, the issue here is DFT though.

They are worse on him because he gets ridiculous amounts of ad which favors dft.

La Barbotte1 votes

im not saying its shit by any means, but theres a reason old warlords was used instead of DFT

Ariel the Cruel1 votes

It boosted his damage and sustain following every crit. He has 100% crit chance every 4th AA. It was a glorified stat-stick and nothing else. And at high AD values, DFT was still the better option.

HadesBlades2 votes

remember they had to personally make all his spells do single target damage so DFT would be at least decent on him, says a lot about how riot thought about him when it came to masteries.

Deathfire Touch was destroyed for the same reason WotA is being killed.

I use DFT on Morg. (>_>)

why ?

Ariel the Cruel6 votes

Add to her DoT. Thunderlord's offers more burst. But DFT offers more damage overall during mid to late game.

Thunderlord sucks on Malzahar, Swain, Karthus, and Singed. All of them are better off getting Deathfire Touch because of their DoTs, Thunderlord's is viable for Morgana and Vladimir, but Deathfire Touch is equally good. I actually like to use Deathfire Touch more on Vlad, because his Q is a single target, non-DoT spell. Also, he deals insane damage over time late game with this mastery, his low cooldowns allow him to reliably proc Deathfire Touch on most enemies during a teamfight, while Thunderlord's Decree only has a very small area of effect and has a cooldown.

For Heimerdinger I don't know which mastery is the better. As for Viktor, wouldn't him be better off with Thunderlord's Decree? He is more burst focused than DPS.

DarkSunSovereign1 votes

I play Swain with DFT unless the enemy laner is a squishy AND I counter them.

Audiomancy2 votes

Karthus works much better with DFT than Thunderlord's. His Q counts as a single target spell and E reapplies it constantly.

Omikaye4 votes

his q counts as aoe

Audiomancy1 votes

It actually doesn't if it hits just one target.

Blitzidious3 votes

It applies on hit effects as if the ability is single-target if it strikes a single enemy.

Omikaye1 votes

wow, ok did not know that

lol no. Tdlords is just overated and people are sour on the DFT nerf. DFT is better on all of them except arguably Viktor. Only reason Morg doesn't is because people play her support, so she needs to go into the blue and purple trees.

KING 5HARK1 votes

actually only because DFt got nerfed, Swain and Malzahar abused it just as well as brand

Viktor Heimer and Morg don't use dft?

Supreme Senpai691 votes

I've seen Morg use TLD, but mostly just so they have access to the 5% cooldown reduction mastery rather than the keystone being better.

Ackelope1 votes

I usually see Heimer take TLD actually, since his W, if you hit at least 3 missiles, can insta-apply it. His turrets' basic attacks don't apply any spell effects so DFT isn't useful for that, I'd argue Heimer may actually be more burst oriented with his turrets' laser blast attacks and his missiles.

In actuality Heimer doesn't have synergy with any of the keystones. Thunderlord's Decree is the least bad of them, and is good as a general mastery for any champion on any situation, so it is the "best" mastery for Heimer.

Blitzidious1 votes

I honestly don't see how Thunderlords is effective on Swain. He favors extended fights. He has very little burst(only his W), just crazy singe-target dps. Seems like the only mastery he can properly utilize. Though, I would appreciate it if someone could give me some reasons why it'd be good on him, as I just can't see it.

OyddAWqJ5r4 votes

DFT is honestly an uninterractive and terribly designed keystone that's literally just a straight damage buff. I don't know how they didn't forsee it being too strong at any numerical value where it isn't weaker than the other keystones.

They just needa replace it with something more interactive. Right now it is the least interactive keystone right behind Bond of Stone and Windspeaker's Blessing. But atleast those 2 are interactive enough to warrant existing.

The Voids Call2 votes

don't worry AD champions will still fully benefit from it

TotalJerk2 votes

The most obvious solution would be upping the AP ratio on DFT.

Up the AP ratio is what i'm sayin
