What happened to the mandrake ward?

If you don't know what it is I think Riot had this idea for a new ward that gave no vision but pinged when an enemy was in your area. Was it scrapped? I feel like im the only one who actually liked the idea

As far as I'm aware it's merely been going on and off the PBE. It's highly experimental with no real release date set up. And considering that no changes have been announced. It's possible that Riot is just not working on it at the moment. Or maybe it's just So Experimental that it requires extra time to test. But as far as I can tell, it's not been scrapped.

The person working on the mandrake ward is working on it off and on as a side project. Look on Surrenderat20.com for more info on why. I honestly would love to see the mandrake ward. It would be so great as a jungler/top laner and being able to place in the jungle to warn of ganks etc.

It's on and off the PBE. They are testing it as much as they can before they release, if they even release it in the first place. It's still an experimental item

The designer said recently that there were some problems with the design, and he mentioned that people had a problem with the fact that it auto-pinged because (to at least some degree), it removed the need for the team with a mandrake ward to show map awareness.

It's possible that it won't even go out until pre-season 6 starts. Any change to the vision system is pretty big, I doubt it would go out in the middle of a season like that.
