Concerning the Mage Item updates, lets remember they're adding them WITH the Mage Reworks.

Yes, I agree, a lot of the new Mage items look wierd. I'm not a fan of the new Athenes, I like my sustainable mama regen instead of Morelleo's. But lets keep in mind, like the Marksmen update, they're going to also be touching on base stats. They could be giving more base mana regen as compensation for loss of Mage mana regen items, not support regen items, and might make rushing Zhoynas less hurtful then it currently is.

Of course this is speculation, but just keep in mind that the item updates and mage reworks are going hand in hand, not separate.

Can you link the page where the item changes are posted?

Thats the one issue I was having. They're going to change some mages, but they're also changing items? By the sound of it, if items were changed but the mages were left alone, that'd maybe fix everything right there, no need for reworks. Vice versa too, the mages get buffed/fixed so now they're all good, but then items will be changed, is that too over the top?

This just tells me riot isn't even confident in mages in general, that the entire playstyle needs adjusted including items. I'm still biased in belief that mages aren't the problem, it's the existance of mid lane assassins like yas, zed, and to a less degree talon just needing nerfed, but I feel like even riot doesn't know what the issue with mages are.

Another thing bothering me is them also buffing the objective buffs (red/blue) will they need all this mana regen? Mages are getting buffed, Items are getting buffed, blue buff is getting buffed, would a reworked mage+reworked items+reworked blue buff be overkill and too much? We haven't even seen the outcome of the reworked mages.. we can't say what is and isn't balanced in the current meta, but yet that's going to become harder with not only them, but items/jungle buffs. Where would we pinpoint the balance issues at?

On second note, how out of hand would mage or AP junglers in general be? If blue/red buff got buffed.. screw giving those buffs to my mid laner, I'm going to take them myself and kill everyone personally! Why give those buffs to one person fighting another person, when I can just take it and screw with 5 other people I can counter jungle/gank? That seems like worsening the goal here with helping mages out, and more helping the junglers out. It buffs mages sure, if they get the buff but the jungler is going to enjoy the early clear/executing much more.

It went from "Let's fix mages struggling against yasuo and zed" to "Let's just rework the entire pace of the game by changing items, jungler's buffs, and.. hmm know what let's just change mages cause they're boring, those item changes won't be enough."

They did the same with Marksmen, regarding your first point, where they changed both Marksmen and their items. So, you'd either apply that Riot didn't know what they were doing with their rework too, or that's just how things are.

Also, if they changed mages, that still wouldn't solve the problem of lack of good items mages have compared to the good items AD have. And if they changed items, that wouldn't solve the mage problems that some mages have.

EDIT: Also they talked about buffing Buffs late game, not early game. So there wouldn't be too much of a difference of early game stuff.
