PSA: Server Issues

Slythion··16 votes·1,183 views

Yes, Riot clearly knows about the dc'ing and overall server situation (as shown by that big, bright-red exclamation point in the top right of your screen right now), so chill out and let them take care of it. Yelling "FVCK YOU RIOT" or "FIX YOUR SHITTY SERVERS" doesn't do anything (unless you want to farm upvotes) so let's act mature and understand that these things happen, alright?

Thanks ^-^ [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

Edit:

If you're curious as to why the servers are down, it's because a group called poodlecorps (killer name btw guys xD) is ddosing Riot's servers so it isn't even Ritos fault really (although they should probably have better protection but it's not like we know the scale of the attack).

let me order things for you: I write the "FUCK YOU RIOT" post Riot shows exclamation point. Obviously my message was like a slap across their face it WOKE EM UP.

Slythion2 votes

wasn't really targeting your post (I actually just saw it after I posted this) but more used that phrase as a general expression. I made this post pretty early too (I got kicked off before they were aware obviously) in hopes of reducing the amount of needless rage posts about being kicked off, yaknow?

I keep poodlecorp at arms length but holy shit they hacked league in 20 minutes. What the fuck is life anymore

Slythion4 votes

don't confuse ddosing with hacking

all a ddos means is that they send so many packets of information directly to the server so that it can't process it all and creates freezes and interruptions. Hacking takes skill, ddosing only takes equipment and is extremely easy to do

the only thing Riot can do (that I know of) is increase the bandwidth of their servers which is extremely cost inefficient considering the infrequency of attacks like these

Think of a server as a juggler. It can handle juggling quite a few items (connections/packets). DDoS'ing a juggler would be to constantly keep throwing them additional objects to juggle, untill they can't handle anymore and just drop everything.

It's a good analogy to give people when discussing DDoS attacks. It's pretty basic, and works very well through language barriers.

I like it, thanks a bunch :D

Sorry, been having these issues for over a week. A little exclamation point just now, is long overdue.

its not just connection Issues now u cant even log in i got ban yesterday because of this problem i thought it was my connection but sense there some ppl have the same problem that mean its not my connection its from you riot now i cant even complete my ban T.T

Slythion1 votes

it's a situation with the servers, this happens from time to time (with any game)

Black Reaper es1 votes

yea your right i wish everything go back to normal ^.^

Slythion1 votes

Same :3

On a side note: the connection issues started today due to poodlecorp's ddos, any connection issues from before the start of the ddos'ing today isn't related to this issue

Black Reaper es1 votes

idkr but iam ban anyway there is nothing to do but w8 and hope for the best take your time riot i can w8 Lmao XD

XerShade1 votes

They are stopping logins to prevent people having the issue. You know, like the police do when there is an issue that is unsafe.

Jeddite1 votes

Don't worry -- the third-party moderator team that Rito James™ pays to ban players for speaking non-positively of Fumblr Teminists in General Discussion will find something better to do than locking pointless whining clutter-threads in Gameplay (or any other sub-board).

Slythion1 votes

it's not so much about the banning but more trying to keep people from freaking out over needless stuff that they can't control. This stuff happens and we should just talk about...well...gameplay stuff.

For instance...who's Kalista, I haven't seen her before kappa :^)

Right lets talk about the game___I can't___play ... I mean, gameplay.

Bans aren't needed. But locking these_** "OMG Y 4 R U SERVERS CANT LOGIN DOWN!?!?!?!"**_ threads is something that a moderator could do. Were they not fixated with ensuring that non-politically e_speech occurred in General Discussion.

Slythion1 votes

technically speaking, server issues are part of gameplay and I think it wouldn't be allowed for a moderator to try to manage the server rage threads. I'm just trying to keep quality posts around/reduce rage from people

So... you're trying (and failing) to do what you say a moderator shouldnt be doing.

H'okay with that millennial non-logic. XDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXD

  1. you don't need to be so unnecessarily rude

  2. I'm not forcing anyone (which is obviously not my right) from posting rage posts. I don't have the same standing as a moderator, or any official influence that makes it inappropriate to try to force an unofficial opinion on a mass of people.

Basically:

Official Influence + Unofficial Action = inappropriate and not ok

Unofficial Influence + Unofficial Action = perfectly fine expression of opinion

If a moderator starts removing threads that he isn't sanctioned to do as a moderator, he would be in trouble. So there's no need to rip on millennials and myself personally. If you have a problem with me trying to reduce the level of spam rage posts about the same thing, then lets try to be mature about it.

Find your "safe space", millennial.

Slythion: "HEY GUYS IT'S OKAY U DONT NEED TO RAGE ON THE FORUMS

Jeddite: Yeah, it'd be great if the moderators did their jobs

Slythion: "I DUNNO I DONT THINK MODERATORS NEED TO MAINTAIN ANY CONTROL OVER THE CONTENT ON THE FORUMS THAT'S WHAT IM HERE TO DO.

Jeddite: Yeah, that's kinda the point of being a moderator

Slythion: "I DONT THINK MODERATORS CANT DO THINGS THAT MODERATORS ARENT SUPPOSED TO DO SO THAT'S WHY IM TRYING TO REDUCE THE RAGE ON THIS BOARD"

Jeddite: Yeah, that's kinda why moderators exist, but for some reason -- a reason you dont understand, BTW -- you're against moderators doing what you claim to be doing. That is, reducing pointless rage threads so actual content can be discussed

Slythion: "I'M TWENTY-SEVEN AND YOU DONT HAVE TO BE SO RUDE 2 ME"

Jeddite: ... ... ... ... ... ... ... millennials /SMDH ... ... ... ... ... ... ...

damn you are one rude person, that's not what this conversation has been at all. I thought I explained it to you, but I guess I'll provide the explanation in "conversation format" as you appear to favor:

Slythion: "Yo guys, there's no need to rage about the server issues. Riot knows about it and are trying to fix it, so just sit tight and keep things normal because rage posts/spam aren't really helpful , yaknow?"

Jeddite: inserts sarcastic jab about how moderators aren't doing their jobs about banning rage posts

Slythion: "well to be fair, it's not really the moderators place to be banning rage posts/spam because it is relevant to the gameplay board and so it wouldn't be allowed for a moderator to remove those posts"

Jeddite: inserts another immature jab (this time personally directed at Slythion) stating that I'm trying to do a moderators job

Slythion: "I'm not really trying to do a moderator's job because it's not in their place to forcibly manage these posts. It'd actually be an abuse of power and they'd get in trouble. The difference between myself and them is that I'm merely suggesting that rage spam/posts be reduced and that things remain normal seeing as we have no control of the situation and spam/rage doesn't help in any way (which is well within my right, unlike removing these posts as a moderator)"

Jeddite: inserts another personal jab because he thinks it offended Slythion the first time, along with creating a biased mock-conversation that includes ridiculing the OP and summarizing the point of the post to a completely different conclusion

Do you see here that you're just being unnecessarily rude? If you disagree with what I'm doing, at least act maturely about it so we can respect each other's opinions and talk about it instead of wasting time baby-raging at each other. The frustrating thing is that if you respond, I'm fairly confident it will be another negative-filled comment with insults and salt that doesn't actually provide any information except that you are an angry individual.

Jeddite1 votes

You're doing an amazing job of keeping the useless rage-threads to a minimum, Slytherynion or whatever. Much better than an actual moderator could do. Bra-VO!

Slythion1 votes

Despite your sarcasm, thanks

There really aren't many threads at all about it in Gameplay (and obviously there's no way to be sure if this post had any influence at all, and it probably didn't) but at least the community is showing a degree of maturity and not getting too ragey over it like usually they would

Why did they even do league? They're trying to upset people. But Season 6 is so bad, no one is going to cry about not playing the game for a day.
