What makes it ruined is ADCs use it better, and then get the item(not the ADC) nerfed for it. Let's not forget that ADCs are MEANT TO BE SQUISHY and most of the items they abuse have resistances attached. Except for Lethality(aside from Edge of Night), but Lethality was meant for the very class made to kill ADCs, but then ADCs started using it to kill assassins and everything else(including tanks because they get more auto attacks than a melee champion on most occasions).
You're also wrong about more damage. Quinn gets a mini trinity force proc after every ability on a target pretty much, Vayne can burst a squishy faster than an assassin, as can Twitch. ADCs have the strongest damage in the game. It just takes them a bit to get it. Crit is the most powerful item type in the game. You literally have one item that can cause you to double your damage when you crit.

And a fed Riven doesn't have to work at all to kill an ADC with bad positioning. That's why it's bad positioning. She has to work to kill an ADC with good positioning, but she still deletes them instantly.

I personally hate playing ranged champions other than Swain and the occasional Heimerdinger because I feel that if I get so much as a paper cut I will bleed to death.

ADC builds full AD and they have 1900 HP and 300 AD.
Melee champion builds full AD and they have 2300 HP and 500 AD. There is a pretty clear difference.

With a few exceptions like Tristana and Vayne, ADC's can't keep fighters and assassins off of themselves. If they have a meat shield in front of them then yes, they are strong. If they get caught out, they will almost always die in a 1v1 unless they are fed.
