We need another AP+armor item

AD assassins get a huge amount of MR while buying damage items. There needs to be more balance.

AD get the best of everything.

Meanwhile AP only has one item worth calling overloaded item 3165 and AD has a better grevious wounds passive not requiring them to bring their hp to 35%

You could consider item 3027 really strong but the passive is kinda useless. AD takes towers, takes down tanks because of their penetration items, they get lifesteal, the only spot ap really has is to have some ap on the team so the enemy tank can't just build full armor.

item 3036 item 3033 > item 3135 item 3020 item 3151 and flat pen was kinda their thing but now there's lethality, and the lethality items actually have more armor pen than the magic pen ones and come with actives.

The only way to get like 700+ AP to actually burst people down is to build full damage without any defensive items, but even then AD can do the same except with defensive items such as item 3072 item 3139

item 3071 item 3053 item 3022 item 3748

I mean they got some nice HP/AD items too.

I agree we need another AP/Armor item.

half of those items are used almost exclusively by bruisers

Its only "overloaded" because Riot nerfed all the other items and that mana is required to function. Its all relative.

DarkSunSovereign5 votes

Compared to when mages took Athenes? Yes, it is overloaded.

Fuck AD champs tho.

Yet Riot deleted ítems with "spell vamp" because the AP champs shouldn't have sustain, they say. (-_-)....

Rabblerouser4 votes

Yeah... if an AP builds item 3191 early, they put themselves behind in damage. Meanwhile assassins can just go item 3814 as part of their core build. It's a balance issue to me when assassins can build resistance and still dish out the same ridiculous damage.

However, I'm so-so on the subject of ADCs.

Keep Draven, Quinn, and Jayce from building lethality is all I ask. Especially the latter two. Quinn just 2-shots with little chance to retaliate and Jayce just chunks a third of your health with literally no interactivity.

Also all those AD+AR items...

BLACK REALM GOD27 votes

actually i'd like to have that just for variety sake. there are plenty of tanks that have ap skills that cant be used effectively due to the itemizations.

item 3157 item 3050 item 3170 item 3090

item 3814 item 3156 item 3139

i vote for making moonflair summoner's rift accessible. or! making a new version of it called sunflair with increased AP, decreased magic resist, increased armor, and a new unique passive called - Solarity = taking consecutive hits over time grants stacks of solarity. solarity stacks grant basic attacks a buff that applies sun burn to targets over 2 seconds. sun burn deals 3% more damage from magic based attacks and spells. HOT HOT HOT when killing a player at max stacks by sun burn their body will erupt in flames and burst putting the passive on cooldown for 90 seconds.

Zhonyas really just needs to be a better item again and seekers arumguard needs to have a "fade into zhonyas" active instead of the scaling. Scaling component items are just a bad idea in general. Zhonyas needs 100AP, 45 armor. Seekers armguard needs to NOT scale and cost 1350.

Riot seems to have this huge hardon for reducing mages AP until mages only get the same amount of AP as AD champions get AD. Hell, a build of item 3030 item 3020 item 3151 item 3157 item 3001 item 3165 gives you like... 350AP. around 400 with runes.

fuffychan20 votes

Before the "mage update" there was so much diversity in AP items. Now its completely awful.

Yup. And the amount of AP was high enough for mages to snowball and be relevant at all stages of the game - something they struggle with now because reaching 800AP is a pipedream for most people who who need the utility items. item 3285 isnt even a normal item. Its a shit tier item that should build out of item 3145, item 1058, and item 3113 just to let it have a GOOD passive like the rest of the hextech items and not an "energize" passive.

ChaoticPinecone20 votes

Youre also talking about a 6 item build that costs less than 16000 gold. Thats like, tank-stats cheap. You dont go GLP into Zhonyas if youre looking for raw damage output. Mages can also hit the same 350 AP with 2 items - Morello and Deathcap (and runes and masteries). When youre looking for damage, Morello+Deathcap+Void is the most powerful 3 item spike you can reasonably get (Seraphs + Deathcap + Void gets you more AP at the expense of CDR).

No, you wont end up with a lot of AP if you decide to purchase the 5 lowest AP-giving items in the game. Just like how you wont end up with a lot of AD if you purchase the 5 lowest-AD giving items in the game, or you wont end up with a lot of armor if you purchase 5 of the lowest-Armor giving items in the game.

Exactly, but AP and AD are not equal. AP is only as good as the ratios of a champion, whereas AD is straight up AA damage and occasionally additional AD ratios.

What everyone here is conveniently forgetting is that the game is balanced around everyone having a MR option. AD and AP champions alike have a very strong anti AP item - but only AP champions have an anti AD item. As a matter of fact there is not a single AD+AR item while AP champions get Zhonyas which is strill super strong with arguably the best active in the game. Seeing how you are familiar with the concept of the game being balanced around itemization you should understand is that AP champions are balanced not only around Sorcerer boots, but also around their enemy having a MR item. AD champions, however, are balanced around non-tanks not having armor items, but AP champions have Zhonyas granting them an inhernet advantage. And while that is clearly an advantage for AP champions it's completely fair: the reason for it is probably that the AD midlaners we have counter several mages in terms of 1v1 so hard that they need Zhonyas to simply survive the lane.

There is no reason to mourn the AD MR itemization, the correct complaint is the lack of AP MR options. Since the Athenes changes AP champions lost an AP MR option which is really awkward for some of them.

AD casters (mages) dont rely on boots as a significant source of damage, and they are balanced around tht, unlike AP mages who take a considerable damage nerf unelss they buy item 3020 meanwhile it feels like mages are balanced around that 15 Mpen; if they dont buy it, their damage is significantly limited

on top of that, AD casters get multiple defensive/offensive anti-AP hybrid options of item 3156item 3072 item 3812 item 3139 item 3053 (in addition to item 3111 ),

while AP caster get one of the same - item 3157 . even more unfair is that mini maw is so powerful that you can buy it and never complete it to receive its effectiveness

not asking for much, but just ONE more not entirely defense anti-AD item for AP users would feel wonderful

To be fair, most AP mages are ranged, while AD casters aren't. AP Mages already get the safety of range and being inside their team, protected by their support and front line.

No we need a few types of AP Armor items.

Ones with Auto Shields

Ones with AA slows.

Ones with -10% Crits taken

That kind of thing.

Gregor Gysi6 votes

Didn't know that Randuins is an AD item, TIL.

Skorch4 votes

Can tanks get another MR item too?

And honestly i think its for the main reason of non-ranged ADs getting onto mages. Assassins mid would be REALLY hard if mages got just as much defense as their opponent while also being ranged. The main issue is ranged ADs using those MR items.

Gregor Gysi5 votes

No that would be a super bad idea. The way itemization works is generally to balance out some unbalanced behaviour that occur between differet champion types.

AP champions are very weak against tanks as they have mana costs on their damage and generally don't have much DPS (the exceptions are balanced in their kits and not in their items) so that's why there are only 2 MR items for tanks. If there were more they'd simply ignore mages especially seeing how Void Staff works.

AD (carries) are very strong against tanks due to the high DPS their autoattacks provide which is why tanks have a lot of armor options. The "new" last whisper sadly works on bonus armor so that's weird tho.

AD (casters) are much less useful than most mages, but they counter them in 1v1 in midlane which is why AP champions have Zhonyas to survive the lane. On the contrary there are no AD AR items because they'd be somewhat awkward (should they cater to casters or carries? how will that affect the balance of one of those classes and if we then buffed that class would they become too strong against AP?) so AD is balanced around your squieshy opponents not building much AR.

BTW, have you ever played a tank in ARAM against a full AP team? It's hilarious, once you hit 3 items you are basically invincible.

or we can remove some long swords so ad build path isn't superior in every single way possible

Why do mages have to sit on blasting wand/amplifying tome for 1.3k gold void staff when AD champs spam long swords? Why do their % armor pen item get two components that build out of two smaller components?

Just think about how terrible AP build path is. Rylais needs blasting wand/crystal/amp tome while something like frozen mallet gets long sword/crystal/jaurim/longsword/crystal

Lucifer3 votes

Give us an AP version of MAW or edge of night. We already lost a ton of magic pen with the abyssal changes as well, and AD is frontloaded with Pen, MR and damage. I don't get how it's fair at all when AP has to choose between their stats and ADs dont.

SaltyKracka2 votes

Mages have their survivability built in.

Evêñtfûl Hôrïzôñ16 votes

ADs can remove CC using item 3140 or item 3139, or block it using item 3814 and the only "survivability" mages have besides shields (and only few mages have those) is CC.

SaltyKracka2 votes

Mages can build QSS too.

Regardless, Mages have their survivability built in in the form of range, hard CC, and oftentimes mobility.

Don't forget that their items tend to sport kind of a ton of health.

Evêñtfûl Hôrïzôñ18 votes

Mages can sit on item 3140, a 1300 gold item that gives only 30 MR, for the active, yeah. But late-game, (if there is a late-game... since games tend to snowball in this season) it's a waste of gold, and we're talking about armor...not MR.

Yes, mages have range, but assassins have mobility. Every class has something that counters another class. And like I stated before, their hard CC doesn't matter when it can easily be removed. As for mobility, only few mages have them. Some may have a small MS boost, or AurelionSol's E, but besides that, there's only Ahri.

Health isn't effective enough without the defensive stat (in this case, AR) to go along with it. The HP from item 3116 was nerfed, and the gold price reduced, making it more of a "support's" item than an AP bruiser's. The only item that gives a decent amount of HP IMO is item 3027, which takes 10 minutes to fully stack, and mana-less champions (like Vladimir) would be wasting gold for the mana.

SaltyKracka3 votes

ADs can sit on QSS, a 1300 gold item, for the active, yeah. But it's a slot that's being taken up and damage that isn't scaling upwards whilst they do that.

But now comes the portion of the evening when we look behind the curtain and realize that wonder of wonders, QSS is not particularly common nor ever built early against any champ not named Malzahar.

So that's one irrelevancy dealt with. CC is powerful and not easily avoidable.

But onto the next. RoA exists. RoA is often built. RoA is fully efficient even just one minute after being built. Even Catalyst gives a fuckton of both mana and health sustain.

And the circlejerk in this thread honestly doesn't seem to know what it wants. You talk about AP bruisers, OP seems to want an item to defend against assassins, Random dude #3 thinks them durn ADCs r too powerful. But you all want some generic AP/Armor stat stick because you want to 100-0 without taking meaningful damage, despite the fact that mages are clearly not in a bad spot right now.

Evêñtfûl Hôrïzôñ16 votes

ADs can upgrade into item 3139....

You don't see item 3157 being built often anymore either, because Riot decided to reduce the price and pack a neat 10% CDR on it while removing AP and nerfing the stasis cooldown to 120 seconds.

Unless you're fighting Annie, you can often avoid a mage's CC. If you want something that isn't avoidable, try fighting a tank.

item 3027 takes 10 minutes to fully stack, giving you 300 HP, 300 mana, and 60 AP at the start, which is not worth 2700 gold. If you want the item you'd have to buy it earlier in the game. Most mages need to rush item 3165 due to lack of early-game mana sustain, and how overloaded it is compared to other AP items.

As for you people complaining about circlejerks, you should stop to see how annoying your anti-AP bias is. Different people have different opinions too, so you shouldn't expect to see everyone complaining about the same thing. (Trust me, League would be a lot different if everyone thought the same...lol)

this is a moba with XP and Currency. these games were built on snowballing as such EVERY SEASON has had snowballing. If you dont want snowballing then your best bet is to play Team fortress 2 or overwatch. those games do not have XP or currency and as such will never snowball.

Evêñtfûl Hôrïzôñ2 votes

Uhh...that wasn't the point of my post. I was saying how most people are complaining about snowballed games, and how they're ending in 20 minutes or lasting for 30 minutes but being over by 15 because of snowballing leads...and I didn't ask you what game I should play, thanks.

BLACK REALM GOD1 votes

you were basing your post's point on snowballing. i was explaining that complaining about snowballing or referring to snowballing as a negative feature or reason something negative happens is the equivalent of complaining about how losing your nexus means you lose the game. it's ingrained into the gameplay mechanics.

as the player base gets better at the game and develops new strategies games will start to end quicker. riot is starting to embrace that with their addition of the 15 minute surrender instead of the 20 minute surrender. they'll eventually need to rework items like ROA so that they will reach their full potential faster as well as lowering costs of late game items.

in turn end game (which currently happens at 40 minutes in) will start to happen at 25 minutes in.

Not xPeke2 votes

what are you on about? The way the game snowballs now isn't ingrained into the gameplay mechanics. You must be a new player or have a poor memory because back in the days games were much longer and slower paced.

The game has evolved into a snowbally game with tons of damage everywhere because of the LCS wanting to provide quicker paced game for them to be more entertaining. Everyone know this. Shame on Riot.

BLACK REALM GOD1 votes

that's just a conspiracy theory towards riot. the truth is that the overall community is getting better at taking advantage of the game. it's been out for somewhere around 10 years. there are some LCS players and coaches that get their strategy guides from average joes now.

technically that means the league major playerbase as a whole is getting smarter, which is nice. although the playerbase is also getting older and has less time than before to sit in front of a monitor.

while it's true that a shorter more action intense game gets crowds more pumped up it also means that games do not last as long and have less lasting impact. you wouldnt sit here and try to argue that a fighting game tournament with players set to 1% hp would be more exciting than a fighting game where players start at full hp would you? drag races can be exciting, but everyone knows that circuit racing is more interesting. futball, football, basketball, lacrosse, rugby, swimming, etc. all have their own mini versions that last about 15-30 minutes, but they also tend to go for the longer matches to drive up profits.

profits being but not limited to : ad space, drinks and food, more event ticket sales, more chances to sell merchandise, etc.

so the whole idea that league needs to be shorter for LCS is kind of silly. if they make it shorter then it'd be the equivalent of basketball fans buying tickets to see a game of horse be played between two professional groups. or a penalty kick shootout for the fifa world cup. if league wants their game to be more exciting then all they have to do is add more focus on each individual player instead of using their single camera panning. that would require a direct feed from 10 external monitors and goals for each player to accomplish that isnt just farming in lane or warding river for 20 minutes. which is what they've actually been trying to do by making each champ, item, camp, summoner spell, and mastery choice unique. hopefully they remove runes soon.

Not xPeke2 votes

How is it a cospiracy when every new pre-season there is more damage added to masteries, champions are getting stronger and more overloaded everytime they are released. Tank items were nerfed which also made sure damage was higher overall. Tanks themselves deal substantial amount of damage, which wasn't always the case in the early seasons. You don't think that doesn't add to snowballing?

By the way Riot and the casters themselves said that they ARE aiming for LCS games to be shorter and more entertaining to watch than in the past.. so it's not really much of a cospiracy at all.

No one said players would be set to 1% hp. You're conveniently using that comparison to try and prove your point. Bit dishonest. I simply pointed out games are way more snowbally now than before. Yes it's true, players have become smarter, but the tools they are given to snowball are more easily accessible than in the past.

Damage creep is off the charts. First blood tower. Combination of Drakes can seal games because of their sheer power. Etc etc.

And LOL you think summoner spells, and even items, and especially mastery choices are unique? Yes, just like Warlords was the MUST go to Keystone for ALL ADCs not called Jhin, MF and Varus. Just like Thunderlords is the MUST go to keystone for pretty much the vast majority of mages or burst champions. Because exhaust wasn't recently dominating the midlane right? And itwas just changed because so many players, mainly in (surprise) the LCS were picking exhaust in the midlane. Items are unique? That's funny, you see the same exact items on Tanks, just like you see the same exact items on AD champions. The mage update actually caused a decrease in item diversity for Mages too.

Yep, Riot is definitely been trying to make these things unique. /S

Just like Runes, masteries too are heavily linked to roles and champions. They don't vary much. A specific champion will always pick the most meta keystone on it. Just like the same role will pretty much pick the most meta keystone as well. There is no real choice, it's just an illusion.

And again, your comparison involving a basketball game being a game of horse is again... wrong and not relevant.

Anidan5 votes

I've been playing some Overwatch, and let me tell ya: good ult economy can lead to snowball scenarios. If you have, say, 4 ults up but you manage to beat the enemy team with just 2 (say, Zarya and Pharah ults) and another ally gets his ult up during the fight and leading positioning dance, then you still have 3 ults for the next fight against whatever the enemies didn't blow on the fight, while Zarya and Pharah work on getting their next ults built up. That is a huge advantage for a team that knows how to press it because that means they passively have the pressure of their ults to make the enemy team more wary about how to approach them.

Games 'snowball' in many, many different kinds of ways and they don't have to be as immediately obvious as an exp or gold advantage.

What about the following small changes:

item 3191 =item 1029 +item 1052 +item 1029 +365 item 3157 =item 3191 +item 3108 +600 (same total cost)

item 3191 has new active: UNIQUE – STASIS: Put yourself in Stasis for 2.5 seconds, rendering yourself untargetable and partially invulnerable (100% damage reduction dropping to 0% linearly in the last 1.5 second) for the duration, but also unable to move, attack, cast spells, or use items during this time. 120 second cooldown.

This would be a huge nerf to Camille, too.

Also, another item built from item 3191 would be nice.

ProfDrDeath12 votes

No.

Putting yourself in stasis for a shorter duration can actually be a buff, not a nerf.

Skilled players could just dodge an ultimate, e.g. Veigar 2000 stack ult.

How about this: item 3191 UNIQUE -- STASIS: After a 3 second delay, put yourself in stasis for 2.5 seconds, rendering yourself untargetable and invulnerable for the duration, but also unable to move, attack, cast spells, or use items during this time. You are slowed by 20% during the delay, increasing to 100% by the end.
