Riot changed assassins to give them more counterplay

Gives them item 3814 eliminating counterplay.

Riot Logic.

Riot also claimed they were going to make them less feast or famine which did not happen as well. They failed on both the negative and positives of what they promised.

Edge of Night doesn't remove counterplay to assassins. It gives them a slightly better window to act so they aren't useless.

it is rather mundane compared to Zhonya's and Exhaust in comparison, where you literally deny their existence at the press of a button.

You obviously have never been jumped at by a Kha'Zix with Edge of Night.

And bitch please. Zhonyas right now is so bad that building it against anyone not named Zed puts you into a bad spot.

I have. I usually just Click E then Polymorph him with Lulu . If I am Orianna, I just Q-ult him then press either my Exhaust or Zonyas keys...or both..

Surely u jest. Zonyas is the most powerful active in the game.

You can have the most broken active, when the CD and the rest of the stats are shit it's worthless.

The CD is fine and the stats are slot efficient for the stats it provides. The stat line is not even close to bad.

Zhonya's is probably the least slot efficient Ap item there, so much that it's worse than edge. Stat line is pretty bad.

The CD is fine pre 11, too long after, seeing as you basically build it just for said active.

Utter Bullshit. I get that ti doesn't give you as much AP as Dcap anymore, but you'd have to be on some shit if you think it merits having that much AP while still having as much Armor as Deadmans and its active. It even gives CDR now.

so much that it's worse than edge. Stat line is pretty bad.

70 AP 45 Armor 10% CDR is bad?

Lets compare to another super popular AP Item.

item 3152 300 HP 60AP 10% CDR

And its active while good is far from as strong as Zhonya's yet people don't complain about it begin weak at all despite having a comparable or even weaker statline.

The CD is fine pre 11, too long after, seeing as you basically build it just for said active.

Its only too long after if you literally use it ever time you get caught out instead of picking and choosing when you use it knowing ti will make a difference or not.

Its less gold efficient that basically every AP item, yes even proto belt. Numbers are all on the wiki. Again, it's less efficient than edge. That alone means that building it puts you comparatively behind and is only justifiable by its active, which has an absurd CD in comparison to equivalent items. Having no offensive capacity alone makes it less valuable to many mages than protobelt, especially those who can't afford to waste a slot on another niche item.

If 120 is an ok CD, please change mblade, and edge to 120. You can easily just use those whenever instead of biting the bullet or planning strategically. Bear in mind that zhonyas is the only double edged active in the game because it suppresses you as well.

What active actually compares to Stasis. Serious question. I dare you to try and give me a straight answer without looking silly.

Having no offensive capacity alone makes it less valuable to many mages than protobelt, especially those who can't afford to waste a slot on another niche item.

More CDR and 70 AP = no offensive capability? i mean, Christ. Even then, its almost like it is a defensive item or something. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

If 120 is an ok CD, please change mblade, and edge to 120.

Please just stop. you are on some shit if you think 20 MS or the ability to block 1 spell for 5 seconds is the same as the ability to literally instantly become immune to damage for 2.5 seconds at the press of a button.

The bias is real.

You can easily just use those whenever instead of biting the bullet or planning strategically.

Ghost blades active is meant to give you MS. That's it. What strategic use need there be for it?

As for Edge of Night, it DOES need to be used strategically. Hell even more so than Zhonyas where you simply need use zhonyas reactively, Edge of night requires you channel ti up so that it is useful for the 5 second window it remains up.

Bear in mind that zhonyas is the only double edged active in the game because it suppresses you as well.

Not this tired BS argument again. No it is not. The only time and sense Zhonyas is a "double edge sword" is when the person using it uses it in a terrible situation to use it in, like trying to delay their inevitable death, wasting the active and everyone elses time.

Saying it is a double edge sword is like saying Edge of Night is a double edged Sword because it can be popped by a spell other than the one you are trying to block, leading to your death. It's stupid.

If you press the Zhonya's Key and it leads to your death, that is not the items fault but your own for misusing it.

What active compares to mblade (mercurial blade btw) or edge? None, because actives were designed to fill niches and not overlap.

What is Mblade. 65 ad, 35 mr, 10%ls. Gold cost doesn't matter if you want slot efficiency.

Cleanse + 50% ms is huge. Zhonyas also makes you stuck, but ok lets pretend there's situations where that doesn't matter.

Edge doesn't make you channel, it just requires you to avoid damage, which it helps by providing ooc ms. Riot can call it whatever they want, but until it's a true channel like mf ult, nunu ult and stuff like that, it's not a channel. Strut isn't a channel, and neither is dota's clarity, yet they function the exact same way as edge.

So you agree that zhonyas is a double edged sword. As long as the enemy team can set up a kill on a sitting duck, you're in a "terrible" situation, which is 90% of the time.

Your analogy doesn't work because there wasn't a downside of using edge at all. All it did was benefit you by blocking the spell. Did it force you to eat the other spell?

You mean mercurial Scimitar? Zhonya's active trounces it.

Removing/blocking 1 instance of CC is good, but not comparable to a literal invincibility button.

Hell, 1 could argue banshees is situationally better since you dont have to worry about channeling it before entering battle like Edge of Night, and it doesn't have a window of use since it stays up perpetually rather than for 5 seconds.

What is Mblade. 65 ad, 35 mr, 10%ls. Gold cost doesn't matter if you want slot efficiency.

65 AD is on the lower end of the AD scale, compared to items like item 3031 item 3812 item 3508 item 3074.

35 MR is a joke especially since AP scales way harder than AD compared to the 50 Armor Zhonyas provides.

Cleanse + 50% ms is huge.

it is good but u are delusional if you think it is better than stasis. Removing 1 instance of CC is nice, but ti wont save you from subsequent CC. Zhonya's in contrast likely would make you outright ignore all CC and damage within said window outright when properly utilized.

Zhonyas also makes you stuck, but ok lets pretend there's situations where that doesn't matter.

Lets pretend that it wouldn't be the players fault if it is a sitation where it does.

Edge doesn't make you channel, it just requires you to avoid damage,

it also requires you not cast any spells or deal any damage during that time.

This makes it useless when caught out or already in combat.

Only when uses preemptively or when already out of harms way does it provide any security. And only blocking 1 spell within the 5 seconds it had finished the channel. Any spell. You as the player using Edge have no direct control over what spell gets used on you. What Edge does is it prevents immediate reactionary measures, not counterplay, by forcing the enemy to think just 1 more step beyond just instantly throwing their CC spell at the person.

Ryze for example would have to throw a Q or E before his W.

In contrast, Zhonya's basically invalidates an assassins entire attack pattern, as they need to act within a small window and then leave.

Zhonya's doesn't even just reduce damage or block a spell, it makes you take zero damage and unable to be clicked on or affected for a whole 2.5 seconds, which in league time is an entire teamfight.

The only situation where Zhonyas will screw you over is in a situation where the player either used it poorly or mispositioned so badly that it wouldn't matter if they had zhonya's or not.

Any assassin going up to a Zhonyas user is basically SoL before they even go in assuming the user isn't stupid, because it literally blocks all their damage within the small window they have and beyond.

The only time Edge of Night will make or break an assassin getting the kill on a mage and Zhonya's WONT save them is if said mage was out alone and got caught out, which is a mistake in of itself, and even then, the mage is capable of overcoming the situation by simply accommodating and acknowledging that their first spell will be blocked and therefore they should use their CC second, not first.

which it helps by providing ooc ms.

You can't be serious.

Riot can call it whatever they want, but until it's a true channel like mf ult, nunu ult and stuff like that, it's not a channel.

Strut isn't a channel, and neither is dota's clarity, yet they function the exact same way as edge.

You don't know what a channel is.

Lucian ultimate is a channel. And if you had to be standing still to set up the spellshield , Riot would have to buff it by lowering the CD and extending the duration of the shield......which obviously you wouldn't like, else it wouldn't even be usable.

This is incredibly petty and indicative of the bias just that more.

Also, this is incorrect. Strut instantly gives you its MS upon activation. Its passive effect is like the OoC of anything like Boots of Mobility.

So you agree that zhonyas is a double edged sword. As long as the enemy team can set up a kill on a sitting duck, you're in a "terrible" situation, which is 90% of the time.

Except no, because in such a scenario, Zhonya's isn't what is screwing you over, the enemy properly setting up (aka, you mispositioning ) is, and zhonya's presence makes absolutely 0 difference and has jack all bearings on the out come of the scenario.

If you get caught out, it is your fault for getting caught out, not zhonyas for you pressing the zhonyas button in a scenario where it wouldn't make a difference.

If you are in a terrible scenario 90% of the time, that speaks more of your inadequacy than the presumed mediocrity of Zhonya's active.

Your analogy doesn't work because there wasn't a downside of using edge at all. All it did was benefit you by blocking the spell. Did it force you to eat the other spell?

The fact that the scenario presents a ridiculous assertion was the entire point and is why it is an apt analogy.

Zhonya's doesn't force you to be in a bad situation after you use it. You do by using it in a scenario where it leads to a bad situation. Nothing is forcing you to activate it in scenario that is bad, and it ending that way is your fault and your bad sense of judgement, not the active's.

The problem with Zhonya's is that 90% of the times you would use it defensively, you can't use it at all because it's locked by cc. It's insanely good for playmaking, but it's not a great defensive item because it's totally unreliable.

By comparison, Maw passively saves you from your own mistakes, always procs when you need it, requires no reaction or planning whatsoever, and lets you run. It's a straight-up superior defensive item for most players in most situations.

You can argue that Maw is worse all day long. If it's so bad, there should be no objection to making an AP equivalent.

You should be using it to avoid the CC in the first place. it's very telling when it seems that you deem the ability to avoid everything at the press of a button isn't enough and somehow deem it necessary for it to be usable while CC'd as well.

It's insanely good for playmaking, but it's not a great defensive item because it's totally unreliable.

... it is literally an an instant invincibility button. How is it unreliable in any sense of the word?

I disagree. It only matters if the person attacking you doesn't have the damage to outpace its shield, as it is effectively just HP that is only affected by magic damage.

It also can and does activate in situations you don't want it, as any magic damage you take, no matter how minor will activate it, resulting in it going on CD and not being up in a situation you woudl rather have it up.

Can't tell you now many times a simple Thunderlords or KhaZix W proc'd it while i was low, didn't even dent the shield and now I have no shield next time we go in.

Fed Veigar or Syndra doesn't care about Maw unless s/he is behind, as s/he will just burst you through the shield. It also is useless outside of taking magic damage whereas Zhonyas is useful is all situations.

You can argue that Maw is worse all day long. If it's so bad, there should be no objection to making an AP equivalent.

Not only is this a strawman but it is also terrible reasoning. I never claimed it is bad, I am claiming that even so much as trying to insinuate that it is better than a literal invincibility button is ridiculous.

And what's strong/weak/balanced for one class isn't inherently the same for the other.

An AD item 3089 or item 3285 would be utterly broken.

I'd trade Zhonya's for an equivalent Maw or Edge any day. I wish they would just delete Zhonya's so I can stop seeing it used to justify superior AD itemization every time the topic is discussed.

And you'd be a fool to think so.

AD champs would easily kill you through your Armor version of Maw.

And "superior AD itemisation"? AP itemization is far better than AD itemization in terms of both scaling and utility.

The bias is real.

They didn't even introduce more counterplay...

Look at each of the assassins and tell me where the counterplay actually comes in.

Just because they can do stuff in less bullshit timeframes doesn't mean there's any more counterplay. There isn't.

Talon will still kill you if he gets to you.

Same with Leblanc.

Same with Kat.

Same with Rengar.

Same with Kha.

Same with Zed.

If they extended most of their windows to 3 seconds or more, then maybe you'd have a point.

And if anything, they have an easier time getting to you now...

Its not just Edge of Night.

Its the new design of the assassins in combination with Edge of Night.
