New Player Experience - Support is Horrific

I'm sorry but when is Riot going to bother addressing the "New Player Experience", especially for supports? You expect people to remain interested in your game when you have to grind through to Level 10 just to actually "PLAY" the game properly. This neglect of lower level gameplay is not inspiring for new players at all.

Blind Pick games are swollen with smurfs, from the accounts that YOU ban willy-nilly and they do not seem to get the message so they come in and provide an unfair advantage. You may say the MMR system detects smurfs but it really does not. I know new players that don't want to have a continued interest in the game because of all the smurfing and premades that exist in Blind Pick.

Draft pick is better because you can ban champions and games seem much more serious but to make the player grind through 10 levels just to get there is horrible. People routinely troll Blind Pick, Bots are ALWAYS present (which makes me wonder if Riot does any bot banning at all or has given up) and Smurfs are just allowed to run rampant, essentially cheating games and the matchmaking system. (Ironically the same people who complain "Matchmaking is broken" etc. How can the system EVER be balanced if you seek to exploit it all the time?)

How can Riot be in such blatent disregard for enticing new players in when League drops income and player levels every year? Do they simply not care about new or returning players (some of which are solo players, which is a HORRIFIC experience).

Playing a support in this low level games is one of the worst experiences ever. You essentially can do nothing when your team starts trolling/feeding/afking ect and this is only compounded by the fact that you have progressively made the game worse and worse and worse over the years, empathising damage and muscle memory over defense and strategy. People just feed like crazy now because one mistake... dead. Its a completely unforgiving game and very toxic to play which is why Riot has a problem with increased toxicity.

By automated banning all the players in ranked, you basically push them to the bottom, creating an underclass that has to deal with this so the very top "League aristocracy" do not have to. Its disgusting that you would push these people down to the bottom to make games unpleasant for new players (which you claim to want).

You play normals for fun. everyone has their own definition of fun. If you wanna be competittive (those are the vibes that i get from your post) you should start playing ranked. Also if youre trying to question the viability of the supports i can tell you that ive played lulu / janna / soraka in top and jungle up to d4. You can carry your games with every champion you just need to know how. And by that i dont mean only how to play your champion i mean you need to have shtton of gameknowledge to understand the strenghts and weaknesses of all champions , to understand matchups and how they go, jungle routes, times of each gank, jungle starting points (so you can invade etc), objectives, pressure and thats just out of the top of my head. Probably a lot more too. The game isnt all about "mechanical" skill (even tho that is also part of it) Edited to include a pic>>>>

http://tinypic.com/r/s1qal2/9 2100 mmr is around plat 1 - d4 also NO i am not duo with anyone. All of my games are soloQ

I can see your point. Respectfully I disagree with the notion that normals are “just for fun”. If more people would use normal draft pick as a time to practice things like wave control, CSing, warding, skill usage, and proper trading in lane, we would see a much better player base. A problem i see, is that people mess around in draft and then when they want to be competitive they hop into ranked without establishing the fundamentals. I haven’t played as much lately (returning after a while.) but when I just started playing I only played normals for a season (season 5) and practiced enough that it only took me about 30 matches in season 6 to reach gold V. I don’t know if this will work for everyone, but I think people should take normal draft more seriously. Maybe not blind pick or ARAM, but definitely draft pick. That’s just my opinion though.

Why tho? You already have a competitive enviroment for everyone ( there are brakets from iron to challenger for a reason ). Why would you want games to be competitive in normals too? So many players stress out from that. I remember my girlfriend was so stressed she would refuse to play ranked. Now what would happen if we put the same stress on normals? We would lose a big portion of the playerbase. And before you say i dont care about player X, Y or Z you gotta remember that riot games do care for large communities ( for obvious reasons ) and the normal games playerbase is the largest community in league.

You may possibly be misinterpreting what I was saying. I was saying that normal draft should be SEEN as a training ground where people practice mechanics and knowledge. I’m not saying to make it like ranked and be hyper competitive and stressful. I’m just saying that people should view it as more than just a casual match. Aram is casual. Technically summoners rift is not. Here is the description off the website for summoners rift: “ The gold standard for competitive League of Legends.” People like your girlfriend will still have a place at the table to play on summoners rift, but I’m saying the thinking process should change on how normal draft is viewed. It will certainly help out low elo by having people create consistency in their games through practice in an enviornment where there isn’t much to lose. I’m not saying to change draft in any way, just how it should be viewed by people whose intention it is to participate in ranked play. Those who wish to just play a game of summoners rift with bans will still be fine, but they should keep in mind that people are playing to improve themselves. The problem is that people focus on other players too much. I’m advocating self improvement, not improvement at the expense of others. For new players, smurfs are a problem that will never really go away as long as people can make free accounts. The best you can do is mute chat every match pre level 30, and know how to mute pings as well. Please note that I respect and value everyones opinions on this site, so it is never my intention to mock or belittle anyone’s opinion. Hence me stating that my post is, in fact, just my opinion.

I respect your opinnion, but why? We already have a very competitive queue (ranked), why do we need a second one? There are a lot of people who DONT want to experience the stress that ranked is. I can give you an example with my girlfriend who would REFUSE to play ranked under any condition. Only thing she would play are normals. What do you do with players like her? And let me tell you shes not the only case. The normal playerbase is like 50% of all league players. If the same stress is introduced to that queue then league would lose a lot of its playerbase and we would all suffer from that ( Think like this: Less players = Less money = Less productivity (skins, art, gameplay updates etc etc) )

Im not sure that the comments are working since im writing this for the third time but: Why should normals be more competittive when we already have a queue which caters to players who require competitive enviroment? I can give you a personal example with my girlfriend who REFUSED to play ranked under any condition because she felt it was too stressfull for her. Now if normals are treated the same way as ranked what would happen with those players? Also what youre asking for would make new players experience even WORSE. Yesterday i got hard flamed and i assume reported a few times just because i didnt defend the nexus as nunu from the 5 enemies that were alive (For context: all of my team was dead, with 30 secs+ timers, we hard lost the game and we didnt have many pushed turrets so even if i was able to defend we had 0 chance of winning it). Now can you imagine this kind of stress on people who are easily stressed out? Because i cant. League players are so different from one another you cant just put everyone together and expect games to go smoothly. The game matters differently for different players. And thats ok. We all have our own queues and elos for exactly that reason. Also if we were to do that the player base would diminish. 1) higher elo players (plat+) would rage quit because they are constantly matched with "bad / new" players or straight up players who dont care about the game that much. Lower elo players would quit because of the struggle that they feel when they are matched against high elo players. Can you imagine what kind of hell that would be? And if you say: well im ok with all of this. Consider the following. Riot really need players to play their game so they can make money. Less players = less money, Less money = less work put in league. No new champs, no new skins, no balance changes, no new art, no reworks, no comics and DEFINETLY - NO PLAYER SUPPORT There I explained my self. Now please give me some counter arguments except - "thats my opinion"

You are probably playing the wrong supports (true supports). You should be playing a mage. Something like Morgana, that can actually deal damage on its own.

FSRER1 votes

Support has been abandoned. Right now, there are 3 picks that are actually viable down there as true supports and those are Morgana Thresh and Soraka. All three overpowered, all three need nerfs, all three broken.

Morgana is about as "true" a support as Zyra or Brand. She was designed as a mid lane mage, and still can function very well there, but the majority of her play is bot lane. Outside of her E, the rest of her kit does not scream primary support in the slightest. Saying she's a "true" support is about as stupid as those people who claim that Lux can't be a viable support.

Idk that snare looks pretty appealing for a support

Soraka how?

I know that the "poke ever fucker out of your lane while being untouchable" strategy with early points in E is obnoxious, but I can´t see how she can bring much to the table after that, being as cdr/lvl and item dependent as she is which is always bad in early game metas like we have right now. The fact that she is also an easy target and that heals, in general, can´t compete with the amount of burst we currently have doesn´t really help either.

but maybe it is the bullshit early game harass combined with her good synergy with problematic adcs like vayne, idk

I am just surprised to see her right next to tresh

FSRER1 votes

How, she maxes a heal right? A heal which heals for 300 health every 2 seconds. Does anybody understand how much healing that is? She can literally win a teamfight by standing back and healing. She does not have high enough costs for the healing she does.

Until you hit a certain threshold of play, you will pretty much need to play in a way that fends for yourself. So if you get support, choose an aggressive support who isn't completely tied to the other laner.

Mages are great examples, like Morgana, Zyra, Karma, or even Annie. You could also pick tanks like Blitzcrank or Nautilus if that's your thing, though ultimately it all boils down to your playstyle. If you like in your face champions, you probably should be running a tankier support.

the new jungler experience then? this name is actually quite ironic as a new jungler has, typically a bad and unforgiving experience, mainly because of the jungle experience changes

It does detect smurfs. It doesn't sort them away from the new players, but they try to make sure each team has one even though not all smurfs are equal.

They should give flash at lvl 1. As well as make more practice stuff for things like jg and then an advanced tutorial detailing items and all that. Personally i would happily work on that but not only do i not work at riot but i also don't have the stuff to record things like that. They should also give an option to say "existing player" when you make a new account where that one would place you with lvl 30s then slowly track your mmr from there

i agree. Too bad nothing will happen to improve anything.

It really is horrendous. My friend started playing really recently and he loves playing Soraka but the amount of toxic, trolling assholes is really getting to him, it's sickening.

The part about new player games being filled with smurfs because of rioys ban system is i think a pretty big issue because its brought on solely from the irresponsibility of the company. In preseason i had to much free time and spammed games until the trolls started to just piss me off and i flamed them and riot banned my account. I... could not... have given a fk less lol, it did not effect me... in the least but. Ive no one to impress with my rank, im not a streamer, i just play for fun, and accounts are free.... So here i am again, and tell me how much fun you think the enemy teams are having facing me based on my op.gg? Im totally cool with having my games be chill and ez to win again, but like... im here because "flamers" get banned but not trolls... and im causing people who might be a little better than the elo im playing in to auto lose because they dont expect me to be able to make the plays i do.

Wtf was the point of not just chat restricting me and having me continue to play against people my skill level?

The funny thing is people keep saying that Riot's internal data says that most people who are banned don't come back, yet every time I play on a new account, there's some troll, intentional feeder, afker(actually had a Heimerdinger go to top side and place one of his turrets on the other side of the wall next to Gromp so he could AFK without getting kicked for not moving), bot, or flamer who says he's on his third account. It's extremely rough down at level 1, and Riot doesn't make it any better by making you level up to obtain things that are basic for the game(runes and summoner spells). You can't effectively jungle without smite, but hey it's only available at level 10, and if you go duo top until you're level 10, you get flamed by people who have other accounts and aren't level 10. I mean yeah, I'm better than a new player so I probably get put in with the flamers and stuff more often, but I've talked to new players in game and many of them claim to have the same experiences. I've told them not to give up because it does get better once they're level 30, but they just rarely end up staying that long.
