Pay 2 Win disguised as Free To Play...

((Before you downvote... at least have a think))

League never used to be like this but all the "modern" champions that have been released over the lasts few years have been;

  • More mobile
  • More Damage
  • More gimmicks or abilities that "break" the game, such as Kayn going through walls, Zoe stealing summoner spells and Sylas stealing ultimates.

((Only a few have been released "Underpowered" over the sheer amount that broke the game when they came out))

Why does everyone find this acceptable? It is obvious that power creep has become more and more interlocked into the game and everyone agrees that "Power Creep is bad" and yet nobody is willing to do anything about it. It is clear that Zoe, for example is WAYYYY better then every other burst mage in the game, in both mobility, CC and Damage and yet nobody ever says anything about the absurd power creep in Riot's designs.

Do you really want a game like this, where you need to keep buying "the latest champions" just to be competitive. It is true that Riot reworks champions but that usually destroys their identity and takes something people have mastered for years and spits on it? How is that better?

Do people want this game to be "Street Fighter" where reaction time is all that matters and one shots are every game?

And yet its all the older champions that are the most relevant most of the time.

League is not Pay 2 Win. You don't have to pay to get BE to purchase new champions. I'm currently sitting on 18K right now, eagerly awaiting Yuumi, and I've not spent a dime to get any of it.

Furthermore, the game changes frequently, so no, you DO NOT have to constantly buy the newest champion to be competitive. Hell, Morgana has been a stable, strong support pick for years, and Kayle was just VGU'd, so right there is the answer that you don't even need the newest champions to be competitive.

FederationFurry1 votes

Morgana is a popular champion so that disproves nothing, besides, she did have her numbers reworked when she had her VGU. New champions ARE better then older ones and they are the most expensive... that is the definition of P2W. Just because some champions are kept viable and are anomalies... Riven. Doesn't mean its not true.

Why do you even care if champs are stronger or weaker? Do you play in diamond 2+ ? If not, you can carry by one tricking any of the 144 champs atm.

p2w games lock all half decent content behind completely impossible to reach goals without paying money for some sort of premium currency, or having .0003% odds.

you gain BE (a completely free currency) every time you level up. you dont have to pay for anything, and unlike companies like EA, there isnt a limit to how much you can obtain, as well as there being a free rotation in case you might not like the champion.

these qualities make league the exact opposite of a pay to win tbh.

FederationFurry1 votes

Doesn't mean that Riot won't "Encourage" you to buy the higher price champions because they are blatantly more powerful then older ones. You get TINY increases in BE which means you'd be there for a while to unlock one of these champions.

Riot knows better then to lock content behind paywalls but that won't stop them from power creeping new champions in order to get dumb whales to buy them, thinking it will make them better at the game.

For people who already own all the champions, we truly don't fucking care. I have more Champ Shards than I know what to do with. So when Yuumi comes out, I just need to fuse 3 out of 100s of shards.

ImnotaRacist1 votes

Like I have so much BE and champ shards that they would have to release a dozen champs to use it all. Part of the fun of league is unlocking new champions over time, picking between newly released and old, and finding your play style. It has literally always been the case that the newest champ is the most expensive to unlock, and the price of every other previous champion adjusts DOWNWARD. just enjoy it while you still have the aspect of unlocking stuff left.

Except for the part where lower priced champions such as kayle were the ones that were blatantly overpowered.

How in the world is this game a pay to win?

Kai Guy7 votes

Because tilted players keep trying to redefine the term.

Pay 2 Win should = Paywall between Paying and Free users. What this looks like is The content available to paying users actually provides gameplay modifying values. If Frost fire annie skin added a slow to her abilitys because ice magic! That's pay to win.

There is an argument about the visuals of skins being P2W. Currently with all skins the gameplay numbers remaining identical besides some Easter eggs (sunglasses and 1 damage less from leo for example) is consistant. There are problems when a visual is harder to read or see as a player because we all use our eyes to play the game. The gameplay mechanics remain unaltered but some times Riot has to correct this, Like with Frostfire Annie back in the day having a very difficult to read Stun inside bushes.

I disagree with folks who use that argument because game knowledge compensates you for the visuals, knowing the range, having a good feel for the hitboxes on abilities off experience removes most of the impact they claim P2W skins makes.

Oh well Guess P2W = A Clear Paywall has evolved into a new term. Any advantage you can spend $ on even if its one that's surmountable by the Free currency is P2W for some.

Kind of like how Inting used to mean intentionally feeding, because that was short hand for the report option of "Intentionally Feeding" Now means just playing badly or not playing to win.

MordridtheBlack8 votes

p2w implies that people who put money into the game are inherently better than people who don't due to them having access to better stuff

that is not the case

please next time, do more research before you say something is p2w

Yo!

PSA : BLUE ESSENCE IS ACQUIRED SIMPLY BY PLAYING GAMES.

Also, if you want 145 unique champions, some of them will need to bend the game rules a bit LOL.

FederationFurry1 votes

You get tiny amounts of Blue Essence for levelling, it will take you a while to unlock champs. Just because Riot gives you a freebie every now and again, doesn't mean its pay 2 win. Especially if champions that are coming out are BETTER then currently existing ones.

Saezio6 votes

Tiny? really? Ok pal. Here is a plan to show you how you sound.

Step 1: Build time machine Step 2: Go 3 years in the past. Step 3: Tell everyone in these boards Runes are now free 100% by spending 0 IP, acquiring all champions is faster if you don't care which champ you unlock 1st, but you feel like "game is P2W" bcause some new champs are strong.... Step 4: Watch the memes

I don't think you understand that investing money to get champs is the dumbest thing you could ever do...

PS: older Champs like Jax or even Braum are broken as well ......

CrazyMonkeyCZ4 votes

Any actual proof, expect "they are stronger bcs they are"?

Leon41673 votes

You don't understand what you're talking about...every new champ that comes out can be acquired though Blue Essence which is free to get as long as you play the game. Now does this mean that people who don't have BE stocked won't get the new champs when they release? Yeah most likely but it's not you have to get the new champs. As a top laner when Orne and Sylas were released I didn't them much attention. Of course on release they were annoyingly strong but that's just what happens when a new champ is released. But I never felt like you HAD to buy them and start playing them to win. I've stuck with my favorite Champs since Season 2 and still have no problem with them. The only thing you gotta pay for in this game is cosmetics. That's it.

ImnotaRacist1 votes

Don't forget about the two week period of time after every champ release where they are banned 80% of the time

FederationFurry2 votes

Downvote all you want ignorant shills. Pretending that this is not the case is just making me laugh more. Its amazing the self-delusion humans are capable of for something that was once great and has fallen.

CrazyMonkeyCZ2 votes

once great and has fallen

Expect if you truly believe it. It was there all time long. Realease Xin? Kassadin? LB? Eve? Do you remember old Draven passive? Quit it kiddo.

Yi Is Mi3 votes

When did you start playing this game friend? Do you remember the old rune system? If anything that was pay to win, but hey guess What? Riot completely overhauled it to make it.... FREE ahhhhhhhhhh how could they.... so much pay to win ahhh....

Píkachú1 votes

He probably doesn't remember anything because he didn't play at the time. Based on his posts It seems clear he is a new player, and probably lost against a "new" champion, therefore the tantrum.

KirbyCake2 votes

This is the only moba where you have to grind for champions. I agree and skins are absolutely p2w, many skins give an advantage and should be disabled in ranked just like they do for pro play.

CrazyMonkeyCZ1 votes

On the other hand it's nice little way that works against smurfs as well, in Dota, you just create new acc and you are free to counter pick.

Also expect Dota, which one?

Hots, Smite, Paladins, many other mobas I tried like 2 times and I don't remember name and like every ripoff of these, you have to buy them.

Agreed with skin, new Zed skin is one big literal shadow with weird animations.

But absolutely p2w idk.

Its one thing to flame matchmaking. It's another to blame elo hell and whatever other reasons for unfair matches. But this. This, I think takes the cake for most amount of mental gymnastics performed in order to convince himself that League is broken.

Illabethe1 votes

Here's the problem with thinking newer champs = favored, and thus P2W:

Champion list and shards given simply by leveling FAR outstrip new champion introduction.

For example, I made this account in December.

I already own all 143 champions currently available, and have over 60 shards sitting in my Loot Box Page.

It may be hard for a new account player to catch up and grab those higher RP champs, but given half a year of hard work, they'll be ahead of the curve.

Yi Is Mi1 votes

? Have you ever played a p2w game before?

Bouwer1 votes

Nice copypasta

Píkachú1 votes

Imagine being able to buy champions with ingame currency... Oh wait. Exactly what is stopping you from buying a new champion? BE is not hard to get, heck, people complain about not having enough stuff to spend BE on. Play the game, level about 4-5 times and go get yourself the "new champion" you're crying so much about.

haaaaaaalp1 votes

Due to the prevalence of reworks, the more "modern" champions aren't always the newest champions. Kayle, morganna, akali, and irelia are all very new champions and they are all in low ip tiers. Kayle was probably the most busted of any of the newer champions recently and she only costs 450 ip.

POTMLG1 votes

Your posts are the realest i can find on the forum, and you're being downvoted by shills and admins. Every single comment you make is downvoted as well, which seems deliberate.

KirbyCake made a comment below about Skins giving advantage. Of course he was massively downvoted as well.

The shills will always answer by arguing about: %winrate in high elo/ your bad game knowledge/ Some old school champ that may counter their bs champ.

Keep the good work
