Renekton is a Perfect Champion

Who says we can't have modern champs that are "simple" or "basic"?

Renekton is easy, like Garen. You have your point and click CC, spin to win and mobility, but there is still depth and smart decision making you can reach unlike Garen, with Fury.

Renekton is a Perfect Champion

Uh...yeah not really. I get what you're saying that he's simple and easy to understand, but he's by no means perfect.

Lol You clearly have not played in metas where Renekton was considered strong During which he slowly chokes the life out of top lane with nonstop shoving, healing, bullying, diving, and splitpushing, none of which you can keep up with as 99% of other toplaners.

Must have glossed over the balance history of the gator.

To expand on it, it's not a simple or basic champion that can't exist it's champions that are TO simple and basic with little handles for balance. Think XinZhao and Warwick

Yeah... we all still remember the Renekton bar, right? How he was literally the main deciding factor for which champions could be played top for about a season or so? That much potential to shove other champions out of the game can't be perfectly designed.

The same can also be said the other way around, unlike Ren you have to THINK about your engagement and plan ahead on Garen. If you make a mistake you pay for it dearly unlike Ren. As Ren has 1 possibly 2 gap closers where as Garen does not. So you could also say Garen has more depth and requires Smarter decision making than Ren.

I thought Garen was the other way around, engaging once your opponent made a mistake rather than forcing an engage yourself. Since his update I see little need for Garen to force fights as he simply can't be ignored in fights like he used to.

maybe in team fights, but in top lane he usually has to be the aggressor or else he will be out harrased.

And let's not forget how Garen needs to have already escaped immediate danger in order to sustain in any way

So you have a problem with Garen?

No I love Garen

I"m saying you can make a champ like Garen but still make them interesting like Renekton

Uhm sure. But well , tbh the last champion releases were much more on the overloaded size than the 'too simple' like Garen. I would like to see simple champions that have some play potential too. There's no need for 50 passives and different spell interactions to make a champion be able to hold his own.

unfortunately, most champs that can hold their own are soon nerfed and the ones which need attention and nerfs are left alone

I'll be one-hundred percent honest: when I play Garen, I do the same shit I do all the time laning with very little thought.

I last hit until the enemy gets close, chase them with my Q and when they try to trade I just use my shield so it hits a wall of damage reduction, then proceeding to spin on them to zone them out. I do this for almost opponent in top. I can usually out sustain them with ease, one of the exceptions being Darius, but even then my instinct when he uses his Q is to get as close to him as possible so he doesn't get max damage/healing. Garen is easy to cheese with, I can out trade most champions easily without having to even think about it much...Though, this is just when I get to play him, usually I'm mid lane or supporting.

Why do I play Garen though when I prefer top laners like Singed, Mundo, and Renekhton? Because Garen is just so damn forgiving with mistakes, its disgusting. Keep in mind, I've been playing him since the olden days of the pre-season when his scaling with AD was so bad, you had to stack sunfire capes just to scale into late game (when they could stack, since it was before the unique passive item change). I also own all of his skins, even though I swore I'd never get Rugged ("Thanks mystery gifting...", I said sarcastically).

I feel like renekton has a habit of being safe as well. At times, hes just a brick wall because hes simple and reliable. Champions need a margin of error.

junglerboy161 votes

Ah, so you must have never played top lane when it was the "play renekton or feed all game" meta in top at the beginning of season 4.

Renekton may be in an "okay" spot now, but he is far from perfect.
