Master Yi: Devourer + BotrK, then tanky?

I was thinking, if the new Sated Devourer will already increase his damage so much, thanks to it doubling his on-hit effects, wouldn't be better to just make Devourer + BotRK as damage items, then building him tanky so that you could have a lot more survivability during fights?

Yes his damage would decrease when comparing to his glass cannon counterpart, but wouldn't that be worth over the survivability? I was thinking of something such as Randuin's Omen, Thornmail, and either Spirit Visage or Banshee's Veil as tank items.

I did this anyway. Commando Yi did it long before I did too. You still kill squishies with the added bonus that you don't disappear whenever a light breeze comes along. Only get BOTRK right after Devourer if you're really fed, otherwise start your randuins/spirit visage. devourer gives enough damage for a while and you need to get beefy fast.

Yes, but before if you did bruiser Yi, your damage would fall off very hard. You would become a mediocre bruiser without CC during the late game, but with the new Sated Devourer, this may no longer happen, due to the on-hit effects being doubled.

than play jax or skarner at this point

Yi is a lot more mobile than both Jax and Skarner thogether, and has much more outplay potential. Also, Yi's ult renders him immune to attack speed slows, which are crippling to both Jax and Skarner.

but jax brings more damage with that build +utility and tankines and skarner i'm not sure about the damage but surely he has more utility and tankiness

It is important to remember that Yi has true damage, which bypasses resistances, and his own passive already doubles on hit effects, so whether Jax does more damage is questionable at best. He brings more tankyness and utility for sure, but as I said, Yi has more mobility and outplay potential.

no he doesn't. Jax has more burst but Yi has more sustained damage. Jax's average added damage is +60 magic damage per hit. Well Yi does +60 true damage per hit from base AD alone, it just doesn't come in chunks.

That is the build that got me to diamond

item 3026 is worth exploring. Still lets you build glass cannon, and you'll get your cooldowns back if they take you down.

Everyone seems to play Yi as this homogenized AD slipper. Why not damage and cooldown with health. Possible items,

  1. any jungle Warrior and Beserker Greaves, Youmoos
  2. Black Cleaver
  3. Zephyr
  4. Maw of Malmortius
  5. Titanic Hydra Okay the first 3 mandatory, and the rest fill in for the situation you find in the game. I find this build runs nice for damage and sustain. With the extra cooldown you can quickly spam his abilities with added damage.

bruiser yi is for me

Sated>Black Cleaver>Titanic Hydra. Your choice of boots and tank items afterwards

I've done this since release of devourer on 200+ games of Yi. Commando Yi is another bruiser Yi main.
