Laning against Illaoi is like laning against Zoe

Dodge everything or get fucked.

Its absolutely miserable. Dodge the first 10 Es from both champs just to get hit by the 11th and get chunked for half your HP. So much fun.

So the point is, dodge everything..... like what your supposed to do anyways? O.o yes, some are a bit more forgiving, but that depends on how you play, and what they are building and what you are building.

Hate to say it but i do not see any link between them being "so strong" and any other champ being "so strong"

Illaoi in a nutshell. Honestly I have mixed feelings about this topic. In a way I am happy that atleast one juggernaut is allowed to be a strong lane bully, something my boy Darius was famous for, before he got reworked, and then nerfed 20 times.

On the other hand, I don't like how she can play almost like a complete ape in lane and get away with it, with no real punishment. Oh I missed a Q or E? Just back off a little bit and chill for like 5 seconds then try again. Oh I got ganked post 6? I will just ult and the enemy will either die or be forced to disengage you. Meanwhile Darius gets massively punished for missing a single Q.

if she ever misses e just run up and fight her ASAP while its down. If you dont punish her for missing it then what are you doing.

She is not gonna cassually let you run up to her, and chances are she will already have 1—2 tentacles near her from her passive, so generally even if she misses e its still a bad idea to run into her if she has multiple tentacles. And that brings another issue, melee champions don't have an easy way to kill tentacles, any time you will go for tentacle kill, she will use your auto attack animation to hit you with Q or E, since you temporarily self stun yourself during auto attack animations, especialy with low attack speed.

On short its a pretty difficult to trade with Illaoi ,as a melee champion, since you have to fullfill too many conditions in a short period, before you can safely trade vs her. Dodging , E, Q, W, making sure that she does not have more than 1 tentacle near her, her cds aren't all that long either.

If you cant walk up to her then zone her from cs and threaten a trade. if she tries to use q to farm then you can get a free trade off as she locks herself in place.

Thats not how Ilaoi works, very few melee champions can outpush her to begin with in the early game. It's usually Ilaoi the one who is slow pushing the minion wave, while zoning you off cs. Farming under turret is not an option either, since she will poke you as you will try to go for creeps.

If you can somehow zone Illaoi off cs as a melee champ, then your probably already hard winning the lane, since she outranges and outpushes most melee champions. Normally counter to poke is all in, but vs Illaoi thats not an option either, since she will win almost every all in attempt with her ult.

If Illaoi is shoving pre 6 then shes a free gank. Spam ping the hell out of your jg to gank her, although make sure to not facetank her tentacles + e. If youre letting Illaoi poke you then youre doing something seriously wrong in lane.

If she ever misses E then she has blown a MAJOR fighting spell. You need to be fighting her or threatening to. This is why Illaoi is a low elo stomp, because no one recognizes that they NEED to be threatening her because of her long e cooldown early.

If she ever uses ult just get out. once she blows ult you can just re-engage once its over and kill her with your ult as there's not much she can do to you at that point.

You can literally dodge ALL of her damage, just walk away and abuse cooldowns. These are the main reasons illaoi is not viable in higher elo.

Also I have 250k points on Illaoi.

I would agree with u but as someone who also mains illaoi 500k points, plat. She has clear weaknesses but her strengths do a good job of covering those up. Most illaois max E and usually have it up every 9 seconds. If she kills it the cd is reduced even tho is says nowhere that its suppose to happen. This means 1 E means a chain of E's usually. If illaoi is maxing Q then shes not required to hit E to fuck and can usually ult freely of E and E after ult and still do alot of damage. Q max is great for when you expect ganks and E is for 1v1s.

If you are ganked post 6 and their top or jng happen to be melee you most likely will win the fight. They have to disengage or die and if they disengage then you get a free walk away back to your tentacles. Illaoi is easy to learn but hard to master as your weaknesses become more apparent the higher you get and you have to learn how to play around them.

The more you play with her the more you will realize small things like you dont always have to ult in 2v1 situations and can just drain tank a good amount of them and how to not panic and R right away. There are korean challenger players who one trick illaoi or play almost only illaoi and do fine. They abuse her strength to be a HUGE bully and force more than 1 top to stop her which then her team follows up with having numbers advantage.

If illaoi misses E she still has W/Q/R. With more illaois building tri force first or third your W starts to really hurt more and you can start to really rely on it alot more in 1v1s with just sheen alone. Honestly alot of melee champs just do better to run away instead of taking the damage early or risking fighting her if they get their souls taken cause if they mess up it starts a chain that illaoi can abuse.

TLRD: While she has clear weaknesses she also has very big strengths that when played too can make her weaknesses seem non existent. Even when knowing how to fight illaoi, certain mistakes can make all your knowledge void hence why people should play her to get a basic understanding.

This is why I play almost exclusively tanks and always have. I don't claim to be good at the game so I play champions who can eat those skill shots and recover from it.
