Is there a particular reason why we have to assemble Key Fragments into keys?

I just don't get why we have to go through the process of assembling 3 key fragments into an actual key before using it. Why not just simplify it by having 3 key fragments automatically equal a key.

Unless Riot has something else planned for them? I could imagine some new style of crates coming out. Right now the crate you get can get you ANYTHING chosen randomly but maybe they could make a crate that specializes in skins or another that specializes in champions, but require 4 key fragments to open.

I have an opinion on that, and it's negative: 1). It may have come from politics of design meetings, where an idea (keys) was nerfed. 2). It results in a philosophy of failure to provide material gain in rewards.

to make you feel thats your getting something. even though. your getting the key and your getting a box to use it. then get part of what you need. like a key fragment only to be a resource (essence) in which you combine to get a skin or whatever it is. why even give us key fragments instead of the whole key at once? even if it takes just as many wins and matches played. well. its psychological. you think your getting more than what you actually have. fake sense of achievement.

or simply they don't want things to be convenient and make the process even more convoluted.
