What is the reasoning behind giving auto-fill protection when you queue for support?

At higher ratings, support isn't the most in-demand role. You rarely get auto-filled supports, and more often get auto-filled jungle or top.

This makes zero sense, why is support given special treatment?

because nobody used to like playing support, ofc in higher levels they just CHOSE to be support, but the thing is, because they are pretty damn rare, they just give them autofill protection.

but anyway, you also get protection if you fill into another role
