Can we talk about Garen for a moment?

Okok, I know some people will get emotional over this, mostly because Garen is one of THE iconic champions, but at some point we will have to have a serious discussion about the future of this champion. "Spin-to-win" may be looking funny, but that's kinda all that comes with it... And the silence seems kind of... well... out of place... if you ask me.

Ok, but even Riot knows that it doesn't really make sense: I mean, just look at the Garen scene in "Twist of Fate"

https://youtu.be/tEnsqpThaFg?t=1m58s

THAT'S what Garen is supposed to be. Not some kind of demacian beyblade. He's still uses circular motion in his attacks, BUT HE DOESN'T SIMPLY SPIN AROUND. I'd love to see his spin and his Q being combined in one skill, basicially moving forward while striking (no, not exactly like riven, he's supposed to be heavyer and harder-hitting. Just imagine it to be similiar to the cinematic)

Also: his W should be changed. Still a defensive steroid of course, but simply get rid of the passive part (stupid hidden power) and increase the numbers of the active skill + maybe add a projectile block, so Garen can actually "protect the weak" like a TRUE demacian!

For the ultimate... well, no complaint here, apart from the fact that I am personally bothered by almost every spell that has point&click. I'd be for a slightly delayed AoE (really short delay), but that's just my opinion. Also when it's AoE there might be some amazing synergy with Jarvan... at least it would fit into the lore then ^^

That only leaves his passive, which can stay or get replaced by something that can be used actively in combat and a new skill... so guys, let's get creative! What skill could our famous soldier need? ^^

Uhhh random downvotes incoming, I KINEW this would happen. After all this board is more conservative than a bunch of southern-state republicans.

So afraid of change they won't even allow having a discussion about it. xD

I agree that Garen could use some more tweaking (though probably not your tweaks), but I don't think that insulting people for not agreeing with you is the right way to promote discussion of any sort.

I'm not insulting people, but their attitude to downvote without at least bringing up an counter argument or something constructive. Of course my ideas are just what they are: ideas. Not the glorious knownledge that HAS to be put into the game.

You are insulting people by saying they're afraid of change. If I said your reluctance to cross the street was due to simple, general cowardice rather than wise caution (you don't want to get hit by a car, do you?), that would be an insult. It's sad that so many people think it's okay to sling around the "you're scared of change" line rather than promoting debate, nowadays.

A downvote usually means someone didn't agree with you, nothing more, nothing less. Yes, they should bring say why in order to help everyone understand their position (that would help people choose and support a side, rather that upvoting/downvoting and moving on), but not everyone has the time to do so (or the confidence, knowledge, etc. to directly defend their viewpoint). Don't throw out their opinions because they're not fleshed-out; try expanding your own so you can reach out and convince them to agree with you.

Following your metaphor it's even forbidden to even THINK about crossing the street because there MIGHT be a car coming?

And now, let's be all honest here. I know this community. You know it. And we both know how these boards work. The moment you propose even the tinest change you get downvoted into obvlivion... there is no reason to be friendly about it ^^

My metaphor is meant to indicate that not agreeing with a suggestion does not indicate fear.

You're either lying or completely unaware of quite a few threads on these boards by suggesting that every proposed change is met with downvotes. Quite a few threads are currently asking Riot to change the fact that there are bots swarming over 3v3 and Dominion, and those threads are being upvoted. I know this community as well as you do, and yes, many threads are downvoted, but are you seriously suggesting that every single proposed change is downvoted + that's why your ideas aren't agreed with? Press your "Boards Home" button on the left side of the page and skim down the page.

its like calling a fat guy fat

it hurts but lets face it its true

every time something changes there is an uproar that is alwas againtst the change, and after some time they get silent and enjoy the stuff

Truth doesn't make an obvious statement any less insulting when it's worded as an insult.

yeah but here we are to discuss what is to be fixed and how and the place is mostly composed of people who claim everything is at its best shape, and that chanigng anyything is a taabo

its counterproductive here

It's just as counter productive to insult people during a discussion. It's also counter productive to make assumptions about the people you expect to hold a discussion with you.

The best way to have a discussion on G&B is to make a post that does not hold your own ideas to start things off. People will latch onto your ideas and focus on little else, rather than providing their own insights. You can reply with your ideas when a discussion starts, but throwing your ideas out there for judgement from the very start is typically a bad idea.

Personally the way I've read this thread so far makes me think the OP wasn't actually interested in discussion, but rather validation of his ideas.

False. See my other post in which I replied to Kyoki Shinkuro, or press "Boards Home" to see that there are plenty of upvoted threads that propose changes.

Every time something changes, some people support the change, and some people do not. Not every change is a good one, and not everyone will come to enjoy the "stuff" a change brings about just because it isn't reverted. Just because someone doesn't agree with a change doesn't automatically make him/her a coward. If I suggested that you jump off a cliff because being dead would be a change, would you do it because you're not afraid of change, or would you actually weigh the pros and cons of the change and decide continuing to live might be a better decision? Obviously, changing Garen in the way OP suggested isn't a life/death situation, but those changes might not necessarily be positive for the game as a whole (or Garen as a champion), which is why some people are downvoting the original post. Having a different opinion does not equal fear.

  1. Downvotes on a non-trolly thread show dislike. They are not random, people simply are not interested in discussing with you.
  2. Bringing politics into something like this, especially in a way that sounds like you're insulting a very large population of people, is a bad idea.

You're allowed to have a discussion about anything, however you just can't expect every reader to want to talk to you.
