Why is Maokai's win rate low?

Because every time I play him, even if I get trashed in lane, he is still stupid strong later on.

On paper, the idea of spamming a 2 second stun/engage, which cant be interrupted because he becomes untargetable, every 5 or 6 seconds, while doing a huge percent of health damage, seems stupid strong.

And my personal experience tells me that it is. So why is his win rate not better?

cause they gutted him way to hard

That Q mana cost & E's initial damage nerf is still a "love-tap". All the actual damages are still there.

Riot nerfed him based on his pro usage and not solo que.

The sapling landing damage taken away hurts him quite a bit.

Probably got nerfed hard with his sapling harass in lane.

Because tanking is trash in this meta. Grats you die in 3 seconds instead of 2.

His rework made him a strong top laner, and Riot wanted to balance him for up there instead of the jungle. Turns out his kit is too strong for top lane, so they ignored the jungle and nerfed him repeatedly for his top performance. The last Q nerf was way over the top - they could have just as easily reduced the W damage to champions, increased its range, and increased its damage to jungle creeps. That way he could still be picked top as a dependable brick wall, but if he wanted to do damage he'd need to go back to rushing RoA, and his ability to jungle would be protected...but whatever, what do I know?

I'm hoping his rework isn't too extreme because I really liked playing him when Riot still allowed him to jungle.
