Lux buff only helps Lux stay ahead once ahead

DonnieDarkin··87 votes·3,963 views

She buildsitem 3089 item 3165 and can one shot people at level 12.

If shes ahead, she is more likely to be able to kill a champion and refund some cool down and be more oppressive.

Buffing her ult was fucking nonsense and only makes the game more snowbally.

GOOD JOB RIOT. I love how you guys think things through.

If she has morello + a deathcap at level 12 something went extremely wrong mid lmao

or bot. but yeah. she shouldnt have 2 expensive items at level 12. Altho I love the games where you do have two items at 15 minutes in.

Not just two items, Deathcap's one of the priciest items in league

Knoyle2 votes

Thats 6700 without even buying boots. To even achieve such a gold amount at that time you'd probably need perfect CS, 1- 2 Pentas, and a Turret.

I honestly feel like the cooldown reset on Ultimate kills was a terrible idea. If Lux can kill someone with her full combo, then she's fulfilled her job. The main weakness of Lux is having 30 seconds of downtime on killing anyone if her full combo can't burst the adc/mage. Otherwise, she just stands there trying to throw out q's and e's hoping that does something (normally, they don't). Instead, they should make her passive reduce her ultimate cooldown each time she procs it - it would work as a risk/reward mechanic. They want Lux to be more interactive, so she'll have to put in more work and be a little more vulnerable if she wants to lower the cooldown on her ult. It also means rewarding good Luxs with an ultimate cooldown reduction if she lands a full 5-man e>r combo. Which, against a competent team, is incredibly unlikely.

Buffing her ult means she's less likely to use it for waveclear, historically one of the biggest complaints about Lux. It also was intended to help give that nudge for Lux to be used in higher elo more often since a good Lux will have more success while a bad Lux is more or less unaffected.

If shes ahead, she is more likely to be able to kill a champion

Is there literally ANY champion that won't have an easier time killing you when they're ahead?

She can oneshot people at level 12

I'm curious- is there any burst mage that can't 100-0 you at 12 with those two items? Especially if you're being dumb and not building MR against someone who's clearly a problem?

DonnieDarkin1 votes

Your response is incredibly stupid. I just don't even know where to begin explaining what a stupid fucking response that was.

Love the last part though, trying to imply that I am being dumb not building magic resist. I don't play mid you fuckwad, so stop trying to attack me instead of the argument.

Poop Jelly3 votes

His response is understandable. I'm not sure how you're not grasping it but Lux has been known to 100-0 champions who aren't tanky or not building tanky early to mid game. Most mages can 1 shot you but it's just about how they work their combos.

There are many other horrible snowballing champions when they're ahead (Ahri, Syndra, LB, Kat, etc.).

Though I do somewhat of agree of irrelevant Lux's buff; if she already killed someone the favor of the teamfight already went to Lux's team, not making much of a difference anyway.

I mean, most people would find it very easy to quote the clearly separated points that were each self-explanatory.

Or you could remember that "you" does not have to refer to a singular individual such as yourself and instead can be a more general term. That said, if a Magic Damage threat is on the map, you should get a MR item, regardless of your lane.

The only problem I have with lux is her E. Ever since the detonate-at-any-time buff on it she's just a pain in the ass to play against because it feels impossible to dodge a lot of the time.

Automated Riven7 votes

she has always been able to do that. it just allowed people who didnt know the timings to do it. same with orianna

Automated Riven3 votes

yes. what i meant to say is that people who were worth their salt on lux/orianna were able to do the same thing because you popped it the instant in landed. now you can basically que the detonation with makes it more user friendly but in effect doesnt change her at all. barring the people who cant play her well.

EndlessSorcerer4 votes

AFAIK, the change was mainly so that players on higher pings could reliably do it.

Except people with lower than 60 ping could do it even without that buff. It just evened out the playing field. Not saying it's a good mechanic, but it was there before the change

Are we leaving Ahri for Lux now?

TyrekGoldenspear3 votes

Yep. Let's shake it up a little.

SoryInAdvance9 votes

Maybe we could move to syndra?? Her "put one orb on the ground and press r to kill whoever she wants" mechanic is pretty dumb.

KitSun91 votes

I mean that is pretty true but at least now it's not spam three pick all of them up with W and proceed to one shot with 6-ball ult. Now it requires a bit more skill but she may need a slight ult dmg nerf here or there.

Krys Star7 votes

I think she just needs improvements to her shield. It's so slow and clunky, and the stacking is awful. I much preferred when it spun out fast and just refreshes instead of stacking.

Elemental Lux1 votes

Please no, the nerf to her shield gave her enough room in her budget for the buff to her ultimate. I honestly don't think her shield should affect herself anyways though because you deserve to kill Lux if you get to her. I would love to see the shield get buffed for allies, but not protect her.

Krys Star2 votes

That would be a horrible idea, and it'd likely make her a more appealing support than mage. What good is her shield if it doesn't affect her? Especially in a 1v1 scenario, or if she was the last one standing, she was one less ability to utilize.

As an avid Lux player, the buff wasn't BAD. It was very interesting, and if you can manage to nab a kill with Ult late-game (Even if you're behind) you can seriously feel the impact.

The downside is that it seriously didn't address any of her problems.

So much bias. The buff was honestly completely unnecessary. Lux is already an easy champion that anyone can pick up, and the buff only makes things worse for everyone that doesn't play Lux

Sexy Jack Rabbit3 votes

I mean easy doesn't mean she's performs consistently well.

I kind of shake my head at the amount of people that don't understand WHY she was buffed in the first place.

She's an absolute pub-stomper in low elo, but anything higher then Gold and she really falls off in effectiveness.

Votable Jester1 votes

She's one of very few champions capable of missing literally everything (or being dodged). She's not mechanically difficult, but you really need to have good aim/prediction to reliably get kills. You then need great positioning if you want to devastate teamfights (landing your ult on everyone requires you to position so they're roughly in a line, and they have to not notice you doing that).

Sure she can be picked up easily, but she still has plenty of room for growth.

Kumatora1 votes

Positioning is essential for literally every role, unless you're a tank. Things like Orianna ult and Blitz Q pretty much require the same exact thing. The only difference between Lux and Orianna is that Orianna ult is much more devastating, due to it being an AoE CC that also deals a ton of damage (combined with your W), and that it requires the enemy team to be just generally clumped up and not just roughly in a line.

I can still see where you are coming from, as Lux's Q is a fairly slow skillshot that can be dodged. Granted, the hitbox is kind of stupid, but I digress. Orianna ult can also be hard to land if you can't find the right time to do it, which could potentially win (or lose) you the game.

40-45% win rate champion with 4 skillshots and top 5 worst base stats on league of legends

kek yeah really easy to play her in league of 100-0 fly across the scree with banshees veil assassins thats why she has an overwhelming 40-45% win rate in diamond/masters hehe xd

Kumatora1 votes

Then why do you play her in diamond then? There isn't much to improve on other than being able to land your Q.

Oh and one more thing, most assassins counter most immobile mages, so Lux isnt anything special. (I say this as a Bronze Orianna player)

(BTW, how are you doing so well with Full AP Sona "support"?)

I'm lost as the why they made the buff in the first place. I don't think any one would have asked for something like this in the first place.

Her R has to be the finishing hit to receive the benefit is has, it doesn't do anything to Lux's playstyle other than make an incentive to delay R's and snipe more often. Nothing added to when she's behind... where R would do noticeably less damage.

A buff better suited, I think at least, would be to move some damage off her Ult and increase her passive's base and ratio damage and ease it with a change from the .75 ratio to something else.

That way, her early game is more suited to be riskier - while her Ult is only good, if not stronger while ahead, if she blasts it in a rotation. Of course, I think this kind of buff would have been only good if Thunderlord's didn't distort her trading patterns and overall combo's damage.

SociopathFriend2 votes

It does, it makes her less likely to waste it on waveclear since there's now a reward for trying to kill champions with it.

maybe from half. but she needs a full rotation to kill at 6 from 75% and a full rotation wont kill unless they are already low

QuickenedBlade1 votes

if she lands q you are forced out of lane or killed. It's not up for fucking debate

LightIsMyPath2 votes

So maybe you ate a q-r-auto-e-auto which is basically her maximum damage output, not"qr" . And still even with the full combo you should not be dead unless you had been pokes before or you have 30magic resist

TyrekGoldenspear2 votes

Who would have guessed.

A burst mage can kill you with their main combo when you are not full health.

What makes this different than any other burst mage?

QuickenedBlade1 votes

Lux does it from across the lane with a low mana, low cooldown, and long range hard CC ability followed by a long range, low cooldown, high damage ultimate that also procs Thunderlords and Lux passive for a bonus 300 damage.

She can spam Q 3x as much as blitzcrank can and the result is the same. Only difference is she can do it through minions and does it with way less risk.
