Something that I realized about Malphite...

Coincidence or not, everytime a team bans him, members of that team pick only AD champions.

It seems like everyone is afraid of Malphite, yet I know why; people insist on going with full AD comps, and Malphite excels against those comps.

Why don't people pick more AP champions? If people did that, I am sure that everyone would realize that Malphite is balanced. He is not really OP, he is just very strong in a meta dominated by AD champions.

Why pick an AP champ when you can just ban someone who would ruin the comp?

Besides, I've seen full ad teams do well and not suffer for it, I don't think it's that big of a deal to take ap sadly

Because people are using that as an excuse that Malphite is OP, when in reality he just punishes you for going full AD. And since everyone is going full AD now, Malphite is strong.

thing is even if the comp is full ad he cant stand against that type comp for long if focused just longer than most. similar champions that can do that are poppy taric similarly built and the biggest full ad comp counter is...........Rammus

Because not being able to play an AD comp because going against malphite and Rammus means you insta lose is bullshit. That is shit design and that being their niche means nothing.

Just like how playing a full AP comp against a Galio means you'll lose too, but Galio is nowhere near as oppressive as Malphite and Rammus.

Technically playing a full AD comp is a liability in general because any tank or bruiser will have an easy time itemizing against them as they can disregard magic resistance entirely. It is just that because Malphite and Rammus scale with armor better than mot champions, they are the ones that excels the best against a full AD comp. it is not bullshit. It is just Malphite and Rammus punishing you for a poor team composition. Just like Yi punishes you for going for a no CC team composition.

Also, full AD comps tend to fall off late game due to the nature of the AD champions themselves, so even against a squishy comp it isn't really recommended to go full AD.

Using the pick/ban phase to pretend you're the balancing department is kind of a waste more often than not.

Looking at win-rates, champion performance, and a wide range of stats you're usually left with the information that banning out champion X will simply mean champion Y, that's 0.05% worse, is still available. This difference in power continues throughout the entire roster. If an opposing team is well-versed in the top meta picks, banning the "OP" champions usually only nets you an extremely minuscule advantage. If they wanted to play the top pick and their fall-back is the 10th best pick rather than the 2nd best you might get something out of it, but odds are that isn't the case.

However: If you want to run, say, a full-AD composition and Malphite is essentially the only counter that's widely played: Using a ban against him is extremely useful in the pick/ban pahse and greatly increases your chances of winning.

Which begs the question: why run an AP champion to net a 0.05% advantage in picks/bans rather than ruining the enemy's chances of stopping the team comp you want to run?

Because Malphite is only really strong because people insist on going for full AD comps. Malphite punishes them for building poor team compositions and people complain that Malphite is OP, when the reality is that Malphite is just doing his job.
